First crack as the Japanese. I watch the Nakajima Ha-45 factories in R&D mode climb all the way to 100% over the last few turns, then show 100% for two turns, and then revert to 3%. I did not make any adjustments to the factories over the last few turns, although some have been repairing.

Was I wrong to think they would start producing Nakajima Ha-45 engines when they reached 100%? Why have they gone back to R&D 3%? I attached screenshot of Nakajima Engine R&D at 3%. Do I need to adjust the upgrade button at the side to "do not upgrade?"

What is the date? Did the availability date move up a month? I have not played Japan for many years, so I a a bit unsure. But I think it goes to 100% and then updates the availability date and then starts over.

Hello fellow 'pegger!
I am not all that familiar with Japanese aircraft production, but I do know that new models go through an R&D phase before the factories can start producing. So first the factories are working on R&D and when that is completed they start repairing again to actually produce the aircraft. I think you have to have it set to "Keep" the model it is set on because the alternative "Upgrade" would probably mean the factories go straight to work on R&D for the next model rather than starting to produce the model they just finished designing.

BTW, what ship is your avatar? My dad sailed on KV Fennel for most of his war service.

The date is August 1942 - so I am way early from when they are scheduled to arrive with no R&D. Nakajima Ha-45 are expected in 43/9 in Scenario 1 when the game starts.

The current availability date is 43/5. I think availability might have been 43/6 before it rolled over and R&D was 100% - but I am not sure and cannot check that. I was hoping to get a jump on the engines to get the R&D bonus (500 engines in pool) to help accelerate the associated airframes.

Can anyone else confirm the R&D resets from 100% to 0% when the month advances for engine R&D?

Thanks!

Thanks BBfanboy. I will turn off upgrade option for the engines as I want to produce them.

The avatar is Canada's "fightiest ship" - The Haida. My second choice was the CL Uganda (later HMCS Quebec) famous for being the least fighest ship and actually voted to quit the war and sailed home from the Pacific in July 1945.

Fortunately I am spending my first winter away from Winnipeg in Vancouver where it appears spring has arrived! So sorry to her about -42 windchill in Winnipeg tonight.

Can confirm.
When the research goes past 100 on future engines or aircraft models, the month of arrival advances one month.
Any excess research points over 100 then start again from zero, adding towards the next month of research.

When the research gets to the month ahead of your game date you will see the line turn blue.
If you don’t change it manually it will convert to a production factory if it goes past 100 on that last month.
I’ve never seen a research factory auto change to the next model in the line and have always done it manually.

You might have a chance to change the factory on the day it enters production, but if you press the wrong thing it will lock it in.

I always save the turn before clicking on anything in the production area in case something unexpected happens that I don’t want to keep.

What a coincidence - after my dad married his war bride in Birmingham, he was sent from Fennel to work on getting Haida ready for commission. Later he was sent to HMS Uganda to work on bringing aboard the Canadian crew. That was at Montreal, I believe. I am not sure when the name changed to HMCS Quebec, but I am guessing when the Canadian crew was finally aboard and worked up to operational status. Around then dad's father died out in Saskatchewan and he was given leave to attend the funeral. Then my mom arrived from overseas and took the train to Saskatchewan to meet up with him. He was given more time to get her settled by then the war in Europe was ending and he took his release from the navy to start his new life in northern Manitoba (Flin Flon) where he had been working before the war started. He lived there from 1946 to 2008 when he passed.

Yep, engine factory R&D is actually pretty simple. The ideal R&D factory size is 30. That will guarantee you 1% per factory per day. Once all your R&D factories for a specific engine type you can calculate exactly when that engine will become operational.

Important note: If you increase the R&D factory to >30 you will NOT get more than 1% per day for that factory. Don't waste your supply.

Second important note: Your R&D factory will do nothing until it is completely repaired. On the positive side, engine R&D factories will repair 1 point per day as long as there is >10k supply available at the base where they are located.

Yep, that is correct. Engineers are NOT required.

I thought I would mention that as someone thought that they needed engineers present....GP

Oh, I actually didn't realize that you don't need Engineers for R&D factories.
Guess I will give them something more meaningful to do then.

Even though I have played the game as Allies for years now, since I recently started to play around with the Japanese side I feel like a newbie again...

Pretty sure excess carries over.

Not just R&D, any factory. All you need is >10K supply and patience.

Yep. For example, the engine or aircraft R&D is at 98% and you gain 4%. It is now at 2% and the arrival month advances by 1.
