Status: offline 		Did I just dream it or didn't Eric or someone say they bought the rights to Vassal?

Where can I find out more? Or is there more?

I would just like to know what is going to happen with it, as I was once interested in it. And I never really pursued my interest, but now I'm even more interested.

Status: offline 		I looked into creating an A.I. for vassal, it turned out you had to know the starting positions of chits prior to play to calculate where they are and where there going, and then every game is differrent so the A.I. would not be universal, I toyed with designing an A.I. that was able to play games but game rules of each boardgame was to differrent, so it turned out you would need a stacking A.I. where all rules are in a text file to load into a unversal A.I. , the A.I. only needed to know how to move and how to deduct strength like flipping. and the actual move points and such are in the text file, but like i said the chits have to be identified and the only way was to know where they start from, because vassal is analogue a chit is just a piece of card image. I may revisit it one day, but line of sight was going to be a bad problem as every board would have to be mapped.

I think its a bad idea to create an A.I. for vassal, unless a set of unversal chits and board graphics was used for the game instead of scans.

The original post by Erik was over 17 years ago. Nothing has changed, VASSAL is still free open source and I don’t believe Matrix has ever sold any VASSAL modules. Decision Games tried that over 10 years ago and no one purchased any of there paid for modules. The whole point is VASSAL is free open source software and anyone can create there own modules based off of any board game.
