Well I'm just starting another WWII campaign as the Russians and have some questions. I screwed up a bit in my core selection, having picked a bunch of trucks and somehow deleting my HMG's :0. Would you all consider this to be a fatal mistake for my long term success? At what point does it make sense to retreat? How does the result of a battle impact future battles? If I get wiped out, will I be able to augment my existing core forces, (not talking about repairing and upgrading here, but KIAs)? Do objective points have any bearing on what happens next in terms of auxillary point availible in the next battle? Thanks for any answers. This time I'm going to win, I can just feel it! I'm delaying once again, with three of the 5 objective areas in densely wooded areas. My Engineers are lying in wait...Should be a lot of forest fires by the time this one is done

Its not a fatal mistake, I often buy trucks to upgrade them later to better units. I never retreat so dont now that one. With auxillary points I dont think you get less. I know you get more points for your core force if you dont use your auxillary points, becouse Im on my 15th battle and I have a serplus of 6000 points becouse I never use auxillary points.

I am currently playing a German western front campaign and after three decisive wins looked like being wiped out by the British in the desert. So I started retreating off the map. I was spread over 3 hills , units on the northernmost one could not get to the retreat hex so dug in and fought it out. After a while I noticed it said the British were broken and I ended up with a marginal win. So on retreats I would say by all means start one just in case but do not rush to complete it as the tide may well turn

Windo: When you fight as Russians, your retreat is constant, and it's your only course of action. When German, you fight to ze last man BTW, folks, it seems to me as though SP3 stopped you from converting trucks to tanks, as everything had the be the same basic type, does SPWAW go back to the SP1 you can convert anything to anything (or was that a Panzer Strike thing or both?)?

Drake666: Ah, you are obviously a German campaigner (see my previous post). BTW, your mighty German Army has been very limited if I take what you just said correctly. These auxilary points you refer to, are for choosing support for each battle. You don't use them, you lose them. The 6,000 point pool is what is reserved for you to upgrade your army. If I remember the ol' Panzer Strike formula, it's something like 10% of your surviving core's points is placed in the pool to be added to your next battle in upgrades if you so choose. If that were true, still, and none of the Gerry force were destroyed, then your 10/39 Polish battle would have like 129 points, though it does seem as though my 10/39 battle had closer to 200 in pool, and I did lose a few units in 9/39. I remember if you had extensive losses, and replaced/refitted a great percentage of your army, that you would have to have your next battle delayed, and naturally more battles mean more possible points. I'll bet SPWAW no longer has that battle delay factor, as it seems SP3 didn't, but as far as I understand, the auxilary, or what I call support, doesn't add more points to the force upgrade pool. Anyone in the absolute know here for Drake? Windo: I'm sure this much hasn't changed. The objective points have no bearing outside that particular battle. In other words, it's only there as key ground to fight over. He who posesses all the objecitves at the end, is almost guarateed not to lose, and usually, to win rather convincingly. We're still limited in the options on what we can upgrade to by "class". Only HQ unit can go any which way it wants. ------------------ Hell On Wheels

Hello... Not for long. I am programming the option to upgrade any unit to any unit, right now. We should have a patch out soon that will allow you to upgrade your trucks to tanks.

Way to Go, Michael!...Are you sure you took enough time to R&R? I don't want you to burn out...or are have you crossed over into some kind of programers "zone" that knows no sleep or worldly comfort? LOL Many thanks, I've been playing SPWAW damned near night and Day since DL Day.

Speaking of onboard artillery I can't seem to find it??? I checked the OOB and it looked like for Germany all the onboard Howitzer stuff was set for 1949 only. I changed it to '34 to make available for the WWII campaign but it still didn't appear as an option when choosing core forces. Anyway could someone please tell me where/how to find it, I'd much appreciate it (surely candidate for Rookie of the Week award)...

Well, doc, they left the on board artillery out because they say it would not be available to a regimental HQ. I don't like it myself, so I changed the dates too. Mainly it sucks because my off board arty gets wiped out after their first barrage. SP-arty is still available on board, and you can get mortars as on board arty. I don't think the big guns are available for purchase because they did not make formations for them since they left them off board. You can upgrade your mortars to the guns after a campaign battle, though. If that doesnt suit your fancy, they you have to make up new formations for them.

Hello all, I have one basic question...I started a ww-2 long campaign... but I always end up with the same battle point of 1200-1400 , even though I set the battle point preference to any other number, since I want to try to recreate a kampfgruppen. Is this the limitation or rule of long campaign ? regards, Kartono
