There's something weird about this forum server.. it often says I'm someone I'm not (i.e. instead of "Hello, Khan7", it's frequently "Hello, Sailor Malan" or "Hello, randompersonyou'veneverheardofbefore".. so far it hasn't posted anything under a wrong name though. It also seems that whenever you hit back or something like that and then go back to the form where you were composing a post, it wipes what you've written (but this would seem to be a standard feature of the form for posting). Then just now I composed a response on another issue, hit submit, and it just sat there twiddling it's thumbs pretending it was connecting to something for like 5 minutes, so I hit back, and not to my surprise but much to my dismay, my response had been wiped again. So far lost two posts to this, one was when I hit submit and it just sat there endlessly pretending to send it and I eventually had to interrupt it. Anyway, just had to blow off some steam and inform people a bit. Obviously the most troubling problem is that it keeps thinking I'm random other people. This is not a browser problem, as now I am using the most up to date version of IE available, and it's still doing it. As for getting my stuff wiped, I have decided that from now on I'll just highlight and hit Ctl-C before doing anything with my browser, even submit, and I would suggest everyone else do the same. Incidentally, if there are a couple of threads in which I was involved in a heated debate and have not posted in a while, those were probably the responses that got lost in cyberspace. THis has been discussed ages ago. IT cropped up in teh forum after a crash, and the ubb people couldn't even figure it out. We jst have to live with it...Its a simple annoyance and doesn't affect posts. What sort of connection do you have? Odds are its not the server, but something happening en route to the server. I have a Cable modem and only rarely see teh server side problems, its almost always a problem on my end. [ July 29, 2001: Message edited by: Paul Vebber ]

After you hit "submit" watch for it to say "Thanks - you response has been posted" or some such. The hit your "home" button and "Refresh." Your Post or Reply should be there. By the way, are you always so negative, or is it just here?

geez warrior, just throwing the facts out there. And my point was that I waited for it to say thanks for posting for about 5 minutes. For real, don't expect everything everyone posts to be well thought out or even relevant. And I know that none of you will become my enemies simply from opposing me, even staunchly, in an intelligent and respectful debate, so it would be nice if people would afford me the same courtesy. hehe, it's all good people!! be happy!! :-P

Hi Khan7, I see that all the time: Sometimes I'm Sinner, others I'm Khan7, others I'm Wild Bill ... unfortunately, this does not last enough so I can win an entire Tank Army with a couple of Tigers, just like Ol' Wild Bill surely does everyday for breakfast :D Anyway, I have never lost a post. I have a good connection (ADSL) and I always see the "Thanks for posting" page. Maybe, if you see that you have lost a post, go back in your browser to the posting screen. Probably your writting will be still there. All the luck!

It just told me I was Paul Vebber - lets hope not, as Matrix's releases would go down in quality very quickly with me doing the programming... ;)

I've notice that when I enter a thread the name of the last poster is displayed. I'm generally me when I reply though.

Most of time I'm somebody else but when posting it always reverts to my handle. Also using ADSL and getting 'thanks for posting' page. btw. Nice linux page of SPWAW. I didn't get my SPWAW/MCNA work with Wine, but problem can be partly distributions and my lack of linux knowledge. [ July 30, 2001: Message edited by: General Mayhem ]

Hmmmm I have seen all this as well and it raised an eyebrow at least. But I can add an odd one. Why is I am not logged out much. What makes a person log out? I never do so intentionally actually. I often turn on my computer, go online, and hmmm I am still logged in. I dont mind of course, saves me a few minutes most of the time. But it makes me wonder why I am logged out the fews times that I am.

I've never been logged out. On the other hand I browse/post quite often. Time limit?

To General MayHem, If you want to try again, I'll be happy to help you. The SPWaW-Linux page is finished, so it will probably be helpfull to get SPWaW run with Linux/WINE. And thanks for your nice words. BTW, now I'm me, not someone else :)
