CAN WE BRING THIS THREAD TO A CLOSE? I don't believe anyone on these forumns with an ounce of grey matter holding his ears apart believes that $70 is an unfair price for a massive game like WITP. There will always be a few potential players who are either addicted to bargains or sufferring cash-flow problems who will wait for discounts.
The rest of us have already made up our minds that we want to get our hands on this game and start picking it apart and are willing to pay for the opportunity. To make everyone happy, Matrix should raise the price to $100, then offer a "pre-release" discount price of $70. Then even the "bargain-hunters" wouldn't have to wait, and we could all start playing and have a list of "version 1.01" demands in Joel's hands a week after the release.

You really think it would take this crowd a week to get a list of demands ready?

I agree, the list is so big now that what doesn't make it to version 1.00 will be enough for them to do version 1.01 with. And that is even before we see the game.

In 1985 I paid $220 for an unpunched copy of the old SPI WiTP, which for me rates as one of the best cardboard wargames of all time, in terms of EROI (Enjoyment Return on Investment). Let's see, will I spend $70 today (what's that, $35 in then-year dollars?) on a version of the same game that does all the record-keeping and die-rolling for you?

BTW, anybody want to buy an unpunched WiTP?

Indeed, I vote for bringing this thread to its closure. 70 USD is NOT too much for a game of WITP's scope, and I say this from a country with like couple times less average per capita income than US. Having played UV I'll gladly pay 70 USD (+ shipping) the day WITP is finished. I just hope Matrix will have more efficient distribution network in Europe by then.

Frankly I have NO understanding for US citizens who whine this gigantic, "play in a years to come", be all-end all Pacific War game is too expensive for them. They probably shouldn't even be among "target customers" for this product. If 70 USD is too much for what WITP promises to be, then what kind of "computer entertainment" IS worth 70 USD anyway?

O.

I take it you must have played on another owner's copy. I can only imagine the paper trail.......

Yeah, we used the other guy's copy, it was already punched I just wanted the maps and charts on my wall as a reference. I still have all the paperwork too, it's in a big box that probably weighs 40 or 50 pounds...the good old days

How about $70 with a Pre-Order price of $40 or $50

No. I bought the game, then I bought a new computer to play the game faster, then I bought a lap top to play the game on vacation. I cut my working hours to play the game. Soon I'll probably be paying alimony because of the game. I would do it all again.

Somebody's been doing some serious catching up on the archives. Can we expect more old threads resurrected? Wonder which thread everyone fears returning from the grave?

I agree totally.

agree with all... the $50 I spent on UV was well worth the enjoyment and entertainment I received. So another $20 for the whole Pacific? No Brainer!

The most tragic thing is you responded to a guy who has had 8 posts total. Maybe this will awaken him?
