Are there any FREE (I know) Mega-Campaigns out there I could try out? I'm not really sure about the whole thing, and I am a cheapskate.

SPWAW is free...I think a single free Mega-Campaign might get more of us cheap bastards to buy them once we see how cool they are. (Assuming, of course, they're cool)

No, there are no free ones. There had been talk of a mini-mega-campaign before v5.0 came out, but it never materialised. I've gotten all 4, but have only played 3 significantly. I vouch that they are VERY COOL! Pick the kind of battles you like, and start with the MC most attuned to that. You will not be disapointed.

For what the cost of the MC's are, it's a small price to pay for virtually endless gameplay you get in return!! Let me tell you, I'm cheap bastard too, but I have purchased all 4 MC's, and I'll purchase however many more they put out. What gaming company has ever put out as many improvements/patches for a game as Matrix has for SPWAW?? I think they've earned our support.

The closest you could come to a MC would be the 'long campaign'. However, the MCs are more than just a bunch of battles strung together. You also get loads of background info on the battles, forces, troops, and history of the period the MC covers. I've got all four MCs, and would buy sight unseen any new one Matrix might come out with, I'm that happy with the four I have. For what you pay, you get much more than your money's worth with any of the MCs.

Warmonger, try using this little trick:

Here is an interesting little tidbit for a core force against the Russians in June of 41:

1 x Pzg Motorized Inf Co, with 37mm Paks and 75mm Inf guns
1 x 20mm Flak Section
1 x Medium truck section (Opel's)
1 x Halftrack Recon Plt
1 x Scout Plt
1 x Stug Battery 1940
1 x FO

This is bascially the Lost Victories core force with a minor exception or 2. While you will not get the same battles in the WW2 long campaign, you will get a pretty good idea of what it's like to command a versatile, combined arms force without feeling like you are a Divisional Commander.

Use your support points for OBA, engineers and armor as you see fit, depending on the mission, map, visibility, etc.

To stay as close to MCLV as you can, don't upgrade anything before the end of 1941, except the 37mm Paks and then only to 50mm ones.
