Hello, I have a small question about SP:WaW. I seem to remember in one of the old SP demos (the one with the desert scenario, British Defense vs. Italian Assault) that occassionally, you leaders would be killed or wounded in combat. I liked that feature . A lot. One thing I noticed in SP:WaW however, is that unit leaders never die. Even when the unit is completely and utterly annihilated, the Old Man keeps on going. Has this feature been permanently removed? Or am I missing something in the preferences screen? Thanks in advance,
KA

They now get replaced by another squad in the platoon. You'll see a 'leader replaced' screen pop up when the '0' squad/unit is killed. If you're playing a scenario you'll notice that in the next battle a squad other than '0' will have the parenthesis around it.

So no more random chance of a leader being knocked off? EDIT: Without the entire unit being destroyed that is. [ November 17, 2001: Message edited by: Kuroshio Apocal ]

OK, I see what you're asking now. The unit leader (the guy whose name shows on the unit info screen) is the last man standing. And if a vehicle is destroyed and some crew survive the leader is always among them.

Well...I think you are referring to the replacing routine for names..this is especially true in campaigns..
Look at the problem from a programming perspective..somewhere there must a be a file containing text strings from which choosing names for soldiers...
Obviously this file is limited by a size..the nunmber of names is finite...
In game therms this means that replacing names
will recycle names in some way... For this reason you are able to rename your leaders clicking on the name into the info screen..
as soon as you find a name which is repeated you can change it..

As I remember it, the leader was killed, and replaced by someone of the next lower rank. It wasn't just the name that changed. Rank, rally, infantry, artillery, and armor rating all changed with it.
