How hard would it be to add these things as incidental features in the game? It would be cool to see a herd of cows or sheep in a field, some civilians around and some automobiles or horses and carts. It would definitely enhance the game for me.

Animals could be a map icon if somebody makes one, civilians can be made with existing game units (I've done this), and vehicles are available either in the Oob's or as map icons.

Hmm, those civilians and animals would be great feature but hard to represent in game. If the troops you command are poor, they would see the civilians as an enemy troops and if you kill 'em, you would get minus points. Animals, I don't know. Harder to make than civilians.
