Orzel - Anyway, at this point my real beef is the handling of the files since they were declared done what? two weeks ago...if not more? Does MG have to tell us what they are doing? No, they don't...but it would be nice and it might have cut down on the feeling of frustration that a good part of the community has felt as of late. A little "heads up" goes a long way.

I find this rather disconcerting. Here you are railing against MG because they haven't given you a heads up on a patch for a free game after two weeks. Yet you criticized me for complaining about no heads up on an update for a mega that I paid for and that was after two YEARS. Geez. Some people need to get their heads on straight.

Me? I'm just happy there is an SPWAW. And I'm grateful to those who use their talents and take their time to try and make it better, including scenario designers. And for a company that spends a lot of time and money on it. That's all.

no Rich, most of my objection was targeted against the way you were tending to personalize your "complaints" by working in personal attacks against Brent Richards.

However I worded it, all I asked for was a periodic "heads up" on the update. Since Brent was in charge of the project, this was asked of him personally. I'm not trying to dredge this up again. My last post on the subject was made some time ago and that's it.

But if memory serves you never even said I had a point (correct me if my memory serves wrong) in asking for info on the update. After two years. Yet here you are bitching and moaning after two weeks on a free game. Just seems a little hypocritical, that's all.

I'm as anxious as everyone to get the patch and check it out, but I believe Matrix is doing it to the best of its ability and it will be out as soon as possible.

Looking to do a bit of trolling eh Rich?

OK...first of all, since your memory has seemingly failed you...I was the person who originally contacted a Bryan Melvin and Brent Richards on your behalf of my own accord, via my connections as a member of the Raiders. Find the thread if it wasn't lost in the hack and maybe you'll see how things originally went down.

I didn't disagree with your right to ask about the missing text initially...in fact my original actions showed concern with your position. It was only after Brent and Bryan finally gave you answers that you didn't like (and when you continued to post threads that were nothing more than personal attacks) that I lost all sympathy for your position. After a while your constant demands for an apology from Brent for "lying" became so old and annoying I did join the NUMEROUS OTHER VOICES that began to tell you to accept the outcome and get on with things....which seems to be the only thing you remember about me and for which you have a desire to get your pound of flesh. Well go ahead little man, have at it.

As for me, I am asking about the release of the new files because (unlike you and your trolling about the LV text files) I have not heard back from anyone about the issue. If someone at MG says they will be released in the next two weeks...then fine, I'll have my answer and go from there.

I don't post here very often anymore, in fact I only do in order to see what's new with the update because I would like to resume designing scenarios...people like you strengthen that conviction to visit here less and less often. Anyway...hope you feel better now that justice has been served in your mind. If I only I really cared what you thought.

Would you rather the bicycles were eliminated and those jaeger type units replaced with regular infantry?

Actually "the end of March" was the release date, not 2 weeks ago.
no biggy, just throwing that out there

Hey, what's the name of that scenario?? I'll add it to the list of ones to play.

But I'll tell ya, I've actually had a couple of decent turns. At the very least, I stopped my opponents advance temporarily. I changed my tactics. I found that in a shooting match from a distance there is just no way the Russian technology can compare to German technology. Your best shot is to get the fighting up close, practically hand to hand. Now I could get my next turn and find that I've been wiped out, but for now my Russki's are least putting up a fight.

Trolling? That's a laugh. I just don't care much for hypocrites, that's all. You lambasted me for the same thing that you're doing now. Then when you get called on it you get your tail in a knot. Tough.
Your post is so full of errors it's difficult to know where to start. I'll just cover one of your paragraphs. Here it is:

As for me, I am asking about the release of the new files because (unlike you and your trolling about the LV text files) I have not heard back from anyone about the issue. If someone at MG says they will be released in the next two weeks...then fine, I'll have my answer and go from there.

What a crock. Here's what happened. Brent came on and gave a release date. I went on from there. The release date came and went. No update. And no heads up. I inquired about the update. Brent came on and gave a release date. I went on from there. The release date came and went. No update. And no heads up. I inquired again. Brent came on and gave a release date. I went on from there. The release date came and went. No update. No heads up. This was now about TWO YEARS after the original promise of an update and a release date. By this time, then yes I started getting insulting.

I wasn't trying to make a big deal out of this. I have nothing against you personally. It just struck me as hypocritical that you would post the same thing you criticized me for. So I brought it up. That's all. If you don't like the truth and want to call it trolling then that's your problem.

Rich...yes, that is the post of someone who isn't taking anything personal.

I am a hypocrit to you...and you are troll in my eyes. Guess we are even.

If you read my replies, rather than getting pissy as usual...then you will see that, again, my objection to you and your posts centered on your insults towards Brent. Where have I in any of my posts called out someone by name and started insulting them or questioning their character as you did? Not only that...when and where have I done that over and over as you did with your posts for a good chunk of time?

Anyways, the link I provided you in the PM shows that counter to your great memory...I did offer assistance to you in the beginning...and tried to help get you answers. Only later did I finally get tired of your posts and chime in to tell you to get a life.

I could easily post the links and enlarge this little tit for tat...but as I said in my PM to you last night...I'd be much happier pretending that you don't exsist. Feel free to do likewise.

The link in my PM simply went to a profile page that listed some of my previous posts. None went back to our discussion of the update. So your link was a total bust.

All I wanted to do was point out your hypocrisy. I've done that. And that's it so far as I'm concerned.

And Alby, you're correct, it has been somewhat more than two weeks. In fact, checking every day, it seems like it's been going on forever.

Geez, sorry about that Rich...I guess that link didn't go to the thread that started it all. You can do a search for the thread "This really sucks" authored by you...and see just how unhelpful I was to you in the beginning. Yes, I was all against you asking a question...it's so apparent now.

AGAIN...so that maybe this time it sinks in...I never said that you didn't have the right to ask about the files in question...I only objected over time when you started making your posts personal. Let me know if you need this written in Chinese to finally understand that point?

Anyway...if it makes Richyland a better place for you to live knowing that you righted a wrong...hurrah for you!

I did a search for "this really sucks." The only thing that came up was your comment in this thread. Gee, I'm really sorry if being a hypocrite has you so upset. Real frankly, the only post I recall you making on the subject was the one where you slammed me. If you can produce a post that you made to show me wrong, I'll certainly admit it and apologize.

Well, I bumped the original thread because it's been a boring lunch period here at work.

As far an apology...not necessary. I don't want one regardless as it would imply that this all matters somehow.

Well it doesn't really matter a whole lot. I check for the patch daily or more often and came across your post. It just struck me wrong somehow. I recalled your caustic comments of a few months ago and reacted. Then you reacted to my reaction and I reacted back. etc etc. Anyway it helped pass the time while waiting for the important stuff, like 8.2.

Yeah, me, too. I wanna talk about those great new pics and encyclopedia additions and icons and shp's and mech.exe and OOBs--damn, SPWaW will be a whole new game! MD and I started offering some teasers--I think we should give a few more to keep the juices flowing.

I do want to mention things that were NOT included--Flashfyre's New Rails and Bridges will have to be d/l from his site--I highly recommend these. It would be unfair to usurp his creations as part of the official download. These were independent creations, and should remain so. The same goes for his infantry icon reworkings, based on Matt Reeves' earlier work.

As for the official download--Ruxius did a major rewrite of the Italian encyclopedia. New and alternate pics were offered by Stuart and Federico. The OOBs have been given a complete overhaul, with much improved AI selections for long campaigns. MD and I gave you some teasers on particular OOBs.

If this doesn't whet your appetite and make your mouth water, wait for the real thing. You love to be teased, don't you?

Oh, I forgot to mention Rockin Harry's new scenario designer units embedded in OOB 86 (Norway).
For M4 Jess, Goblin, Orzel and others, there is much to drool over in 8.2.

Hellcat, I'm as anxious as the rest of you guys to get the patch released. However, one point must not be forgotten. SPWaW is a free game, and for me to bombard the production staff with e-mails or phone calls is ultimately counterproductive.

We, and I mean all of us (including yours truly) , should also remember that the game is fully playable as is. What the OOB Team and everyone else who contributed have done is simply make improvements and add more design tools to an already fine program. As for the OOB Team, our contribution is finished. The patch is in the hands of the production staff. Unless something turns up that is seriously screwed up, this will also be the final patch.

I also want to emphasize that the forum will remain, the support will be here, and I'll still be conducting overwatch and offering my humble help in answering gameplay questions.

quote:

ORIGINAL: KG Erwin

No, Jess, your work has not been in vain. It is primarily for you and other scenario designers that I want the changes we made to be in your hands ASAP. You guys have new toys to work with, new units to experiment with, and improvements to the old units. You guys will hold the future of SPWaW in your hands and imaginations.

Here's the kicker--I have most of the patch in hand now. As an OOB team member, I can enjoy 8.2 and say wonderful things about it, maybe give you some previews of the changes, but I can't give the whole thing to any of you. This is the most frustrating aspect of it all.

On a final note, though, I will offer a tidbit: the old height advantage/disadvantage bug has been addressed. An ATG on a hill will have killing ability at further ranges than previously. Some may disagree, but in testing, it is more realistic. This was brought home to me in my last long campaign assault. Japanese 37mm ATGs on hills picked off five of my Stuarts. Now, had they been Shermans, it would've been a different story, but for you armor fans, light tanks are now as vulnerable to ATG and mortar fire as they should be.

SPWaW should now be closer to representing the tactical realities of WWII: the winning formula is the proper application of all arms working together to achieve your objectives. It's a simple formula, but sometimes very difficult to execute in the heat of battle.

quote:

ORIGINAL: KG Erwin

Well, guys, I haven't heard any news, so I won't speculate. Aside from the 8.2 patch, there's also getting the new MC packages together, setting these up for the store, etc. This is all supposed to happen more or less simultaneously.

Of course, the moment I get some info, I'll pass it along.

quote:

ORIGINAL: KG Erwin

Hellcat, I regard myself as hardcore. After all, I was on the 8.2 development team and volunteered to take on the moderator job. Any delays in the patch are due to one thing--we want to be sure that it's ready for release to the public, without the need for subsequent patches to the patch. This is because of Matrix' stance on giving the SPWaW community the best service it can render, which means that patches won't be rushed into release. Barring any extraordinary problems or glitches, 8.2 will be the final Matrix update to SPWaW, so extra care is being taken on this. Bear with us.

quote:

ORIGINAL: KG Erwin

Alright, here's the real scoop: barring any unforeseen problems, the patch will be available before the end of this month (April 2004). As soon as the official notice is given, I'll let you guys know.
As a spoiler, I can let you know that 8.2 has an updated mech.exe. This incorporates some changes in the AI force selection routines, but that's about it.
As a member of the 8.2 OOB update team, I have the final patch in hand. I love it. You guys should be happy with the adjustments that were made, and with the wholesale overhaul of certain OOBs.
As a disclaimer, right now I will say that not all of the suggested changes in the OOB thread were implemented. I anticipate some complaints, but that's to be expected.
However, I request that comments be made in the "new improved 8.1 OOB" thread, which I will rename once 8.2 is released.
Any questions regarding changes should be directed to that thread.
With regards to all,
Gunny

No offense KG, but it sure sounded like there was going to be a patch, not just a full download again...any news regarding this?

Steve, release of a patch was simply an assumption I made from the beginning of the project: I have heard no official confirmation either way on this.
