I may have missed this in another thread…

What all is going to be included in the boxed version (as opposed to direct download) of WITP?

Will the boxed version be available around the same time as direct download or will it come later?

One CD
One advertisment for another game.
One melted candy bar to sustain life the first night.
Divorce paperwork for your wife.
A small desk alarm so you'll remember to go to work or the power will get cut off and you will not be able to turn on your computer.
and
A warranty card that will not cover the loss of time.

The luxury Box gets a list of laywers specialised at divorce instead of the divorce paperwork.

WITP has a strange effect of women (except ones that play wargames)

I keep asking back ... what box?

Current plans are digital download with a backup cd via mail should you want. As for what they show up at Origins with, who knows?

This is not going to the standard retail channels. Boxes cost money, I doubt there would be one.

I imagine it will be a cdrom with maybe an cd-style insert? The manual will be on cdrom (.pdf) and that is all you need. Keeps costs down, but who knows if the game sells well, it might end up in retail too with a 'box' for the masses. My guess only, I have zero inside knowledge.

Interesting. Is this even going to be released in stores or is a minimum number of posts on this forum prerequisite to obtaining the game? Sort of like buying a Lamborhini?

This is part of an advertisement on the back of Armchair General magazine. So at the vey least it appears that if they do go with a store purchase package the artwork is done.

You don,t need a box when the disk lives in your D: drive.

Also if i keep the box my wife thinks i've been wasting more money.

First I want to say I am so looking forward to this game and am going to buy it. My only real problem if that from what I have seen the cost is going to be 70.00 US. That is the most I have ever paid for a computer game that didnt include a printed manual. I understand that the developers need to make money but I would imagine that if they made money on UV they will have the same fanbase buying WITP. Printing out a manual thats 160 + pages on home printed is gonna hurt, and if UV is any indicator you cant have the manual handy in pdf format while playing. I am sure the cost will be worth it but I also think that steep price and knowing you get no prinited manual or map will drive some prospective buyers away.

If you can't afford $70, you really need to re-evaluate your priorities.

Perhaps you should go out and get a part time job instead of spending 4 hours playing games.

If someone says, "this is not a good value" it does not mean they are "cheap" rather it means they are discerning. I take no offense at gamers out there who are a little shocked by 70.00 for a dd, no map or printed material and a fee for the cd, at least currently a dd costing x and add 10.00 for the cd. I value this product, and 2by3 and matrix and while I as a consumer would love to see it for 39.99, realize those 20-30 $ games of the 80's with inflation would be in the 40's 50's roughly.
My only concern is that NEW players, those the industry needs to survive past our lifetime may not want to pluck this figure down.
simply supply side curve economics.. less equals more at a point
