Hi all,

This is Italian "Aquila" (conversion from large liner "Roma" - Musollini was overthroned in 1943 just before her sea trials would begin). Scuttled in 1945 by Germans (heavily damaged by Allied air raids).

Displacement: 28,810 tonnes (28,356 tons)
Length: 231.5m (795ft 6in)
Speed: 32 knots
Aircraft: 36

Yup, I agree with Irrelevant.

While the clinker (funnel top) has that classy German 1939 style, the sheer line is too sweet. I've only seen a picture of the Aquila from the stern. She was a converted liner, which fits with the sheer line. I can't remember the bulges, but that fits with a liner conversion.

Italian torpedo defense systems were interesting to say the least. The Cavours and Littorios had that Pugliese tube-within-a-tube deal. These bulges were reputedly filled with concrete. Good use of hull volume....
