i think these comments about UV (uncommon valor) are a reaction to the lack of individual unit control. i started with tactics 2 board game and, until computer games, expected to control every unit, except when i rolled a 4 and all units in hexes ending in 2, 5, 9 couldn't move. most computer games have a similar amount of control and it takes some getting used to when you don't. i remember getting annoyed playing carrier strike and not being able to control the land-based aircraft. well that wasn't my "role" in the game. also remember some operational level games by ssg (one was about korea) where you told units where to move and sometimes they deviated from the orders you issued them. couldn't "plan" for it but had to be prepared to adapt. uv was that way for me. bought it when it first came out, couldn't quite get into it, got wrapped up in 3 graphics programs, came back to it and now i am playing it a lot. i am more comfortable with the history having read a bunch of books, i approch the game from the theater commander perspective, not the tf commander, and i need to prepare for witp.
