I've been playing in the pacific as the USMC in the WW2 campaign. It seems to be random. Is there a historical campaign out there that goes through all major battles in the pacific? Also about tactics.. I just lost a battle, I lost 500 men, and killed 1500 jap troops. I broke their force morale 5 times, and they were still coming at me in hoards. I think I had to much art, and not enough infantry.. Art is wasted there.. By the time you see them they're sitting in the fox hole next to you ( so to speak). You can't bomb them then without killing or supressing your own men. Tanks work well for killing inf, but the terrain is good for them.. Although I still keep a company around.. ANyone feel like sharing some tactics with me?

Whenever I play a battle against the Japanese, if
possible I will buy some AA halftracks! With the multiple guns (quad 50's are quite nice), they are like grass cutters. Keep a couple of squads around the halftracks so they don't get overrun. I think the halftracks (or any SPAA) are better than tanks.
Hope this helps.

I tried that with light tanks. Mounting troops. I tried in a later mission mounting engineers on sherman flame tanks, but they were to heavy. I was told this could be done.

CS-tanks are very usefull (as long as you remind yourself that there are effects to the neighbouring hexes).
If you can roughly anticipate where the Japanese are, Artillery is *very* usefull.
Flamethrowers (Infantry-based or tank-based) are very usefull because the neighbouring units are not affected, but they have a very small range.
I would also suggest that you make some experiments with the overrun (ATL-O) capability of tanks - however, you must make sure that the enemy infantry is suppressed before you try it. Kind regards,

I"m pretty new to this.. CS tank? Is that the M4 with the 105mm? Support tank? Also, with the japs they have the tendency to find you first.. Defense missions are even worse because they're constantly charging. I'm considering playing as the US, since the Germans aren't quite so sneaky.. But I seem to have deleted the first scen slot on the long road to victory. Before miracco (something like that), anyone know what it is?

CS-tank is infantry support tank and against infantry. It is not so effective against armor. In Pacific 37mm AT is enough against japanese tanks. -Stuarts light-tanks will do fine. Use AA-trackers to shoot bushes with indirect fire, 'Z' or button under 'fire'-button. Some nervous japanese soldier will fire back and reveal its position. Advance slowly. Keep recons (ordered to shoot only if seen or in zero-range.) first and get them back if they find something. Fire with light 60mm -mortars to supress enemy and get in with infantry. Support infantry if possible with HMG-and tank- fire from distance. Don't go after retreating units unless you are sure that there ain't more enemies sitting and waiting just that. Repeat whole thing. Engineer tanks don't take much mens to sit on them as there can be quite hot when melee breaks Besides infantry on tanks is safely only if territory is at your hands. Infantry gets higly supressed if tank is ambushed and will retreat (and have casualties)and leave tank alone to next assault. Use smaller artillery that don't kill but supresses infantry. Guns 75mm -105 are very good. You can call them into your positions without killing too much own men. They will be rallied better than enemy as it was 'friendly' barrage, so you can use your men to fire pinned japs. If you use +105mm artillery, you can use it against targets that are far away from your men, +5 hexes. First battle in Long Road is against French /German airfield. Whole campaign zipped is 2.4 megs. mosh and whellcome

i have had ALOT of luck using massive artillery barrages where you THINK the japanese assault or defense is going to be...i use naval gunfire (medium & large are good for inflicting casualties) or 155 mm / 105mm BATTERY for this, rockets if you can get em, then lay down constant barrages where their line of attack/defense is. i also post snipers, listening posts, scout teams as sacrificial lambs to tell me WHERE their line of attack is and when it arrives, and when it does, i lay down a world of hurt on em. use the 81mm and 60mm to surpress attacks close to your lines (adjacent to 1 hex away) and the big stuff further out. i have also found that placing a sniper or scout team(2) on light tanks/TD, SPAA helps in spotting tremendously, so i use these units in my vanguard. buy lots of FT engineers and flame tanks to cinderize those units that 'break thru' the arty barrage area and use the flametanks as your mobile reserve, moving em where you need em.

I was playing in December of 1941.. I don't think flame throwers and flame tanks were available. Stuart was about the best tank I could find. Very limited equipment.

engineer units have BOTH flame and sachel charges in DEC 41 ....this is GOOD enough. you can also purchase all the 155/105 offboard arty (and probably naval stuff, depending on the scenario) you want. dont forget that you can also include units from OTHER countries with your army/marines. i often check ANZAC and brit units to see what they have that the US units don't. when in defense, place your 'line of resistance' on an edge of the jungle so you have some line of fire, or on 'rough' terrain or the best defensive terrain you can find. place marines and engineers in alternating hexs to provide the best coverage. i also use a spoiling attack with about 2-4 light tanks and 4 infantry mounted in halftracks to go wipe out their (usually lightly defended) artillery after the pattern of their offensive is revealed. usually only 1/2 to 2/3 of your line is engaged by the AI and this hunter-killer unit comes from the unengaged 1/3. you can find their arty by observing the smoke patterns. i also lay down arty counterbattery fire before i launch these units.
