Steamroller and I are getting this alot with a v7 Email game. First it happened in the email campaign we were doing, so we scrapped that and just set up a normal battle. He buys, I buy & set up, he sets up and runs turn one. Sends me the files, I load them and then "Saved game not lodaed!". I downloaded the files again, making sure, still no dice. Is this a known problem? V-man

How are you sending the save file? If you don't zip them sometimes strange things can happen. THere is also an occasional problem on some systemw with write caching where the file is not encrypted. You can tell this happens by opening the *.dat file and seeing if its gibberish or if the first line is readable and something like "SteelSave 1.0". The solution is to always save an email game before you end turn and alt tab out and stick the files in a backup directory. Then after you end your turn check the file to see if it is properly encrypted. If so send it on, if not then overwrite the corrupted save game withthe backup and try it again. This was a big problem back in ver 5 but I have not heard of it much since then. You may also want to disable write caching for your drive in the CMOS of HD utility it tends to cause more trouble than its worth. [ January 19, 2002: Message edited by: Paul Vebber ]

I zip my files, only had this problem with Steamroller, so it's likely on his end.

So when I get to the point where I want to save a game and send it, first, i hit the disk icon on my screen, save it, hit alt & Tab keys and go in and back up the file. When that's done, I go back to the game, end the turn, and then check the *.dat file. If it's gibbereish, Try again, using the saved files. I *thought* that you can't save during a turn in an *EMail* game...

I just checked the files *I* sent out, which he was able to use. I can open those files, (it asks for his password), so when I sent them, he had no trouble. The trouble seem to be at his end. HOWEVER! The *.dat file shows gibberish in the files that we now know to be good. Just an FYI... V-man

Your opponant will likely get a "security violation" message, but you can continue on. Unfortunatley there is no way to completely prevent determined opponents from cheating. So resending the files solved the problem? [ January 19, 2002: Message edited by: Paul Vebber ]

waiting to hear from him on it. We've had a security violation issue for some time last game as well as this one. My OOB1 or 2 seems to be messed up. V-man

Hi Paul I'm having the same type of problem. Thanks for the advice but I've a couple of questions. 1. Can I only save an E-mail game by closing the game off and playing the turn later? If I press the s key , I get a message that e-mail games are saved automatically. 2. is write cache anything like external cache?
I've no write cache in my bios.
Thanks for your suggestions
