None of my subs return to port when they are low on endurance or out of ammo. I thought that in UV when they got low on endurance or ran out of ammo they automatically returned to home base.

I tend to send them back when they reach 1/4-1/5 fuel capacity and/or 4 torps. The easiest way to track your subs is to do a quick mouseover after they attack. It shows remaining fuel and torps.

every turn, I go to the ship list with the SS only in view. I click on sys to classify and return all of those that are too damaged, again on sys to send to sea those that have a sys of 0 then on endurance to send home all of those with red endurance. It works fairly well.

Yeah, that's why I like the spreadsheet approach. There's like 20 different ways to do any one thing and they all work pretty well.

As theater commander, I can't be hassled giving orders to individual submarines.

My submariners have one general order. Sink stuff. Every time I check, they are spread out all over the shipping lanes and another transport is taking a torp up the rear porthole, littering the clear blue waters with life rafts and oil slicks. Good enough for me :)

But if you forget to bring them home when they're empty of torpedoes or fuel they aren't going to sink too many more ships...

They should be heading back. Please send me a save and step-bystep instructions on how to repeat/view the problem.
