When using CVs to protect a transport mission is it best to have the CVs in the Transport TF or in the same hex as an air combat TF. If you use the CVs with the Transport TF what settings should the ships orders be on reacting to enemy ect?

What is the best way for US player to get VFM or VF air units to Henderson field in the early to mid time period? Should planes tranfere from Cv to field or is there another way.

hey john!

heres my story, i was trying to take back guadalcanal (as the allies) anyway i had two TFs in the area one with a CV, a few DDs, and the other one was all transports w/ a few CA/DD's.

when i was making my landings i had my transport TF in one Hex, and my CV TF just beside it in another Hex...what i found out was that the jap planes coming from a island would attack the transports (bypassing my CV's) it wrecked havoc on my transports...

...for then on in, i always have my two TF in one hex so its better protected!!!

Guys but how do you get Marine VF units to Henderson in mid 42 Can they come on the Carriers and then off load or fly off the CVs once in or near Lunga. Can you over load a carrier ( I realize you can not use the the reg. Navy planes until the drop off happens)???

Transfer them onto the CV, but it will use a lot of operational point and could generate some operational losses, so it is better to send CV in port and proceed to the transfer.
Yes you can overload your CV's.

You cannot put CVs or BBs in a transport TF. You can put CVEs in them. If you want to protect Transports with carriers, set the destination hex for the Transports then order your carrier TF to follow. But do not let the carriers follow it into the destination hex as they will not put up all their planes when operating in a port hex and will be vulnerable.

hmm

not very realistic, the part about not being able to put BBs or CVs in a convoy

during the campaign for guadalcanal, a BB cant remember her name, and the Wasp were escorting a convoy to and fro

and the wasp was torpped by I-26 IIRC

it would make sense to put the carrier in the convoy so its alot closer and can assist with its AA guns, and the escorts too

BB are GREAT AA ships cuz they have so many AA guns on them, along with CLAAs of course

but dont u think itd make sense to put a BB or CV in a convoy?
