Hi Folks,

Just wanted to pass on this one in case it helps tie down some of the issues with path finding. It was an all destroyer task force set to fast transport - there are no allied planes at lunga and the enemy carrier fleet isnt in the area. Anyone have any ideas what this unit took this path?

Dawg

PS : Ive also attached the other odd path Ive seen in the insert. This one was a carrier task force moving from Rabaul to Buin.

One thing I've noticed is that sometimes the TF do not always follow the path shown when its wacky like that. Try running the turn and see if it really follows that track. I've already sent your first one to Gary.

BTW a work around is to change the home base to the DH, put the TF on retirment alloweed and pick a mid-way point for a new DH.

Thanks for the feedback Kid!

Yup, actually I just let it go as it doesnt really matter, hehe, as long as they dont run out of fuel. I didnt really want them to have that port set as thier home port as they are a fast transport and will get whacked if they hang around too long, but if they take the longer way around Ill babysit them a little :-)

I had one like this - an automatic transport fleet set off from kobe to go to Niigita (sp) for oil and headed towards the phillipeans - each turn it continued on its merry way to the phillipeans rather than a more likely course to the North.
Had to take control of the TF and send it home...

Ya know when I`ve seen one of my high value TF like a CV or BB do this stuff it sometimes happens there`s an enemy Sub or 2 along or near the original route.

The AI couldn`t be that smart, could it ???

Yes, I am not a big fan of the pathing in this game. It is one of the few disappointing aspects of WiTP, because the pathing in Uncommon Valor was so good.

I was thining along the same lines. I had a Transport TF heading going from Pescadores to Jolo, but it had to pass close to the Bases in Manilla, Clark Field area (still in Allied hand). The AI Routed way out into the Chine sea. I know he still had serviceable aircraft but he did have subs in the area as well. A couple of turns later the route had been changed to run closer.

Does the AI do this or is it a fluke?

That's the method I'm using to try to simulate setting a single waypoint for a route. Time for me to join Micro Managers Anonymous I think.
