Not many have played WitP into 44-45, so I guess Matrix has worked towards improving the game
in 42...were most people play?

Andy finally sent his Superforts after my training bases in China!

Well, sending 172 Superforts from Georgetown, an isolated malaria base in Malaya, is quite impossible
in itself. But the funniest thing is that when the 172 Superforts arrived over Nanning almost all our ac
were out raiding Kweiyang! So except from the 20 or so damaged Bettys that were refitting there, we
didn't loose anything!

I've been expecting a visit, but decided to continue training until he did.
Most of my bases have large number 80+ exp interceptors - will put them on 90% CAP.
If - or when - the Forts come back they should expect heavy casualties...and now Andy knows that it's
possible that the rest may be out raiding the Chinks

Looks like the enemy carriers are heading back towards the Marshalls...
The sunk a dozen transports, cargo ships and a few escorts. Can live with that.

The Zuikaku is down to 6 sys damage, a few more days and it will receive its last upgrade.
3 fleet carriers and 3 cvl's - that's one of Andy's carrier TFs! Have to use it wisely.
A small miracle that we still have a KB left.

Kwantung Area Army

This is the defensive line I've been building. 9 forts even in open terrain
There will be a few fortress cities (red circles), and the MLR will follow the river.
Even powerful mech corps will have to face formidable defenses.

Not sure it would be worthwhile to sacrifice a Bde or Div to defend the outlying bases,
even though they have 9 forts. Think it is smarter to gather as many troops as possible in
the 'choke points' and force a battle of attrition with several fall back positions with
heavy forts. Only 8-9 months until we got yet another war on our hands! Fortunately it will
only last 6 months....

Not sure why Andy went in from 6k feet... Little opposition at Nanning, but Wuchow holds 1100 AP and lots of tripple A!-)
Maybe only half his strike went in, still the results would have been bloody.

Those Tojos were one of 2 remaining units. They upgrade to the late 12/44 version of the Frank. I've trained them to 86 avg exp
The Zekes were all >75 exp, so the B-29s asked for it. Still way to bloody and 'wrong' results, but I've been in the receiving end for too long to care.

Hopefully this means that Andy will be much more hesitant using B-29s outside of escort fighter range. He will soon get his first long range P-51 fighters.
Think that's end 44, early 45?

Yes, but when I checked in my Allied WitP game I noticed that no units equipped with the P51 arrives until the end of 44,
beginning of 45 Haven't seen any yet, nor have I missed them

Can't say there was a lot of interesting action today...B-29s attacked several targets
in smaller waves with little to show for it.

I'm just hanging in there, repairing ships, traning troops and building forts.
With the Zuikaku we will finally have a potent carrier force again and quite a few cruisers
and destroyers will also return to duty shortly.

Some 220k crude is being unloaded in Japan right now, should help a little on the oil reserves.
Will be difficult to get another shipment that big through.

A large LCU reached Saigon, this is one of the few non-malaria bases, and I will use it as
a base for my reserves in the area.

Substantially fewer enemy subs around now, wonder why

Kwantung Area Army

Sounds reasonable. However, perhaps you can do there something more?

Here is how Imperial Pauk Family see Kwantung area defence. In fact this is a same plan as yours but think you could buy a week or two (the whole idea is buy some time till reinforcement units - regain their strength - they are coming in awful condition) .

Since all your reinforcement troops should arrive before Russian invasion you will have a plenty of troops for great maskirovka plan. I would leave significant forces at the frontier bases (even three of four division in each base on the border with Russia). You can set one or two units in each base to prepare for these border bases, while other would prepare for your main defensive line. The goal is forcing Russian troops to prepare for border bases - just before start of invasion you can easily withdraw your first line troops to the "Orange line " and make a "final stand" there.

If Andy buy this story he will loose quite a lot PP for keeping his units to prepare on border bases. Now, you may see that "Orange line" bases or hexes are almost all with some kind of bonus (woods, mountains, rivers) - perhaps it would be worth to try to delay enemy there? (Would be nice to keep Harbin with Shinden factory ALAP)... even if you decide not to make stand on the Orange line you can easily withdraw to the Yellow defensive line -

Even on Yellow defensive line you don't need to defend all for any cost - a determined defence here will delay Ruskies but once when situation become desperate (danger of being encircled!) you can make a last stand on Red defensive line!

I see that you are well prepared for eventual air terror once when his bombers came into range of HI... but i'm bit worried about night bombing campaign - afraid there is nothing it could be done since Jap radar is broken... however, despite that i'm training my night fighers - perhaps crack pilots can do something?

That's a very good analysis Pauk-San! All Kwantung area Army bases have 9 forts, and those in mountainous terrain will
be very hard to defeat. The current defensive ring is manned with the best forces we got, so for now we can't expand it.
Still, within 200 days another 32 divisions and brigades will arrive for Kwantung. This should make it possible to use
some 16 for an expanded perimeter.

Opposite to RL Kwantung Area Army got a lot of high quality units, even in the end of 1944.
It cost more than 3000 points to release a single division, and this can't be done often. In RL fresh divs were moved to Kwantung
while experienced ones were shuttled to the Pacific.

I suggest the following:
Units in China/Kwantung Area Army should be able to be swapped for similar units from other theaters.

This way it would be possible to simulate the exchange of green/vet units.
As it is Andy will run into a very professional and tough army when he unleashes his red hoards.

Been busy in Haugesund, my home town, this weekend.
Just played a turn and moved fuel and supplies around the theaters.
We lost a few tankers to enemy air attack and Singapore was hit hard - again.

Still, Singapore stands at 1008 AP with 64594 points. Andy got no less than 35 units stacked, preparing for the assault.
Guess he wants to overwhelm our defenders. I'm tempted to airlift in another regiment....no enemy LRCAP now.

The Zuikaku has received its 10/44 upgrade and is back to 8 sys damage, only 4 more than its sister.
All our carriers now have a decent AA suit. To bad the Taiho upgrade hasn't been 'fixed' in the last patches. She can't be
upgraded. In 2 days I will assemble a surface fleet of 1 ca, 3 cl and 11 destroyers that have been fixed or just included into
the Combined Fleet.

Our sub fleet with mines is passing Midway.

Tried to break the blocade and run an empty tanker convoy to Palembang. After being
spotted Andy simply moved his cv's from Kuantan south a few hexes and damaged 12 tankers

Pretty fine impossible to threaten the enemy carriers because of the long range from out

Enemy troops moves into Singapore! Was this a recon force or the start of an assault.
B-29s are used heavily in a tactical role, must admit that I'm a bit skeptical about this.
They're strategic bombers, never heard about them bombing ground troops before.

Ground Combat

A whole army group marched into Singapore and shock attacked!
Attacker and defender suffered similar losses, but the forts remains up.
The adjusted assault values leaves Andy at a clear disadvantage.

The question is: How long can we stand up to assaults from the air and ground troops
that outnumber us 3-1? Hopefully Andy will have to tie up his Army Group for quite some time.

Ground combat at Singapore

Attacking force 175626 troops, 1544 guns, 941 vehicles, Assault Value = 3951

Well done! While you only seem to retain the capability to strike relatively small, isolated forces it is also a truism that in a war of this scale there are going to be a lot of such forces.

I wouldn't be able to put up with the sort of A2A results you've had to put up with. Kudos to you for keeping up the fight.

Can you give us an update of how many CVs, CVLs and CVEs you have sunk up until now?

Good work PzB!

BTW. How many fighters are protecting your bases at Palembang and Batavia from being closed?

I'm well aware the challenges of the bloodthirsty A2A model, it demands a lot from the late war Jap player!
Strike the wrong target and you loose 2-300 odd ac.

Think I barely have sunk a single cvl over the last year, and perhaps 8-10 cve's. Not much when you know how many
dozen cv's Andy got by now. The real target is the US naval pilots, wipe out 100 and green horns will replace them.
Our last 4 fleet carriers and 3 cvls will be loaded with high exp pilots and try to catch an enemy fleet unaware.

I'm constantly juggling my presence in Palembang and Batavia Monter.
One day there are 300 fighters on CAP over Palembang, the next only 100 as the bombers are put on strike modus.
When an enemy fleet approaches I move the air fleets to Batavia and then back to Palembang.

Trying to keep a core of Tonys on 90% CAP, Andy knows it will be very costly to hit the place without escort fighters.

The question is how long Singapore can hold out against such overwhelming force. I've decided to move in more troops despite
the cost. Palembang will lay open to invasion as soon as Singapore falls. So why not buy as much time as we can and try to
bleed the enemy troops.

It's no doubt that 1945 will be a year under siege without oil! Hopefully we have such big reserves in crude and HI that we can
make it last.

Hi,
have you still some long-range subs ? If you stil have some you might consider them as a group to harrass supply lines in the far back. You need not harrass them consistently, just once or twice to (hopefully) draw off some escorts. I've read 'a glorious way to die' and there it is stated that IJN sub skippers requested to do just this and it was denied in favor of more kaiten carier attacks.

Been saving and repairing my boats, got some 20 of which 14 are ready for ops.
6 are close to PH and I can send 2 towards the West Coast.

Blo0dy annoying thing is that they refuse to attack even unescorted transports
Planning to use them as minelayers and spotters for my night bombers in the near future.
Should be getting ca 30 new subs over the next few months

Also got a 'Glorious way to die' - didn't notice anything glorious about it though....

I don´t know how many mines you have at Singers, but looking at your land force composition, if I were Andy you would have the visit of several TFs of BBs daily.

There is nothing like 12xBBs bombarding to take fortified places.....

Haven't seen a bb in months...something tells me Andy has left Sing to the Army!
He has relatively few bbs left, fewer than 10 , and he's probably resting them for the big battles ahead.

A few hundred mines only at Singapore, the true danger is going in and out of the strait while keeping
out of range of Miss Betty

Only works on places with support forces though.....

In my game against Faber I have been smacking Rangoon for days and hardly hitting a thing since he has no support forces there.

He has Johore  No need to run the strait. But with only 10x BBs of 41 the Allies get  remaining, then a heavy BB bombardemnt is out of question.

That`s the reason why Andy is using the B29 in a tactical role....

Andy got the Iowas and the 1942 class Dakotas as well as a few older ships - but several took torps a while back and
they repair slowly

I got plenty, plenty support troops in Sing, so a bombardment would have decimated them.
Well, Andy got thousands of medium bombers, I'd say they would be more efficient against Sing than B-29s that should be
reducing my major air bases within P-38 escort range right now.

Did a quick count:

We've sunk 4 enemy fleet carriers, most have probably been re-spawned by now.
Just like the demon spawn in Doom...

Only 1 cvl - the Hermes, but no less than 16 cve's have been sunk.

Andy claims that his supplies have been drained by his Malay campaign.
I suggested that we could visit his supply lines more often...maybe we should

2 of our subs were sunk by enemy asw of PH and another 2 were damaged.
Holy, talk about dangerous airborne asw killers. Laid our mines and going back home.
The large I-class boat will take a trip towards the West Coast as suggested.

Ground Combat

Andy's shock attack reduced forts 1 level and caused equal amounts of casualties.
Now way of standing up to this in the long run....

Ground combat at Singapore

Allied Shock attack

Attacking force 162075 troops, 1369 guns, 954 vehicles, Assault Value = 3516

Defending force 58016 troops, 409 guns, 131 vehicles, Assault Value = 953

Allied engineers reduce fortifications to 8

Allied max assault: 3992 - adjusted assault: 2787

Japanese max defense: 848 - adjusted defense: 1652 - this was a rather low adjusted defense rating with 8 forts! Let's hope it was a fluke....to give Andy hope

Allied assault odds: 1 to 1 (fort level 8)

Allied Assault reduces fortifications to 8

Japanese ground losses:
4360 casualties reported
Guns lost 56
Vehicles lost 14

Allied ground losses:

George Formations

Got somewhat less than 400 George's by the end of 44. I'm keeping 2-3 units
in the front lines at all time while I'm trying to train the rest.

The George is a really superb fighter and interceptor, but you have to train it and give
the enemy fighters some Oscar IIs to feed of Then you got your Hellcat killer.
Versus Corsairs and T-bolts you shouldn't expect more than 1-1 or 1-2 kill ratios with vet pilots.
Enemy radar advantage is always devastating. Very amusing when the enemy 4Es come unescorted to
a base defended by George and Franks though!

Looking at those fighters at the bottom...one, I feel jealous at how you keep your EXP levels so high...but also makes me curious about what groups you are running.....Obviously you have Franks and Georges on the go......I assume Zekes on the carriers....do you still use Jacks........Tojo/Tony...I assume if in use only as training sqdrns........if you have time could you let us know?

Tony's and Tojo's

High exp Tony's and Tojo's are still usefull, especially as bomber interceptors.
Trying to save them for their replacements: Tony 100 in 2/45 and Frank 1cs in 12/44.
Just started production of the latter.

Keeping my fighter units in shape is a life and death issue as Japan in 44-45.
Every day I look at each and every unit and try to optimalize their training, replacements
missions etc.

With PDU on the Allies will have a lot to worry about...so enjoy

Hi John,

he is not impatient - the same what happenned to you at Kavieng happend to him now. He achieved 1-1 odds - and his units remained on "shock attack" by default because he achived better than 0-1 odds.

He switched one of his unit to "bombardment attack" and the clicked on "set all". But his armor unit cant do bombardment attack, so it remained set on Shock attack. Its apparent that only single armor unit attacked (or maybe two) and it was not full scale attack, because losses are so low and 5 vehicles are among them.
