Long time no see Al
Yeah, who thought this would go all the way around...

I may pick up on AE, but I'll leave it to someone else to root out the bugs first.
A bit bored of this by now, the game should have ended 01/46 as long as no new production and
research is allowed after 08/46. Ship yards have been idle for years and no secret weapons

Have you found something else to do, or will there be another little Al soon?

No major raids against the Home Islands.
Andy is most likely gathering speed for another all out effort in the New Year and Spring.
Bombay lost a fort level as enemy engineers get a lucky roll.

Otherwise little to report. Continuing to rebuild the AF and gathering supplies in strategic
bases.

It does sound like a slog now. You are a trooper though - seeing it to the end. Sounds very much like you have given as much as you got despite the 'allied superiority'.

No, I was basically 'banned' from the game by the missus. As you have also found it can become a bit of a chore and I was only continuing in order to not let someone else down (like I did you). When she threw the toys it was a bit of a relief. So, no, no plans to get Admirals.

And yes, a boy added to the household on the 24th of April. What happened with your lass, last I read (and forgive me if this is all well documented earlier in the thread - I don't have 6 weeks to read through your epic) you were engaged... anything more concrete?

LOL! I remember an...unfortunate e-mail security breech during our game
I won't have time for another 4 year game, family will take too much time.

Hey, that's great - congratulations mate!!
I'm far from catching up with you, but we got spliced on the 15th of September last year!

We both have more important issues to tend to in real life in the time to come me thinks.
Maybe we can have an AE rematch when the kiddos are big in 8-10 years time

In the game: More of exactly the same....

Congrats on sticking with this thing for so long PzB. And g'day to Wobbly too! Feel like i'm listening in on a family reunion reading this!

I've been following your ARR for most of its life (under a variety of different aliases), but am amazed (and impressed) that you've stuck to it. Well done.

And to be honest... i'm even more impressed that you both recognize that there really are higher things in life than Witp (or even AE).

Thanks for a good couple of years of fun.

Oh man "the Breech" - that was both funny and disturbing. That's what happens when people read half an email that wasn't addressed to them in the first place - oops!

Pardon my great tardiness in offering my congratulations. It also sounds like you've managed to keep a 'game face' while being married - how did I think I had a chance against someone who could manage their assets so well?

Flying Tiger: PzB and I used to have some of the most interesting email exchanges - varied and very off topic! Nice to hear someone has stuck with his odessey from beginning to end - he certainly deserves it.

I really had bad conscience about that
Even though you left the game before it reached its climax Al, it never became quite the same again.

Thanx for reading Flying Tiger - it's all you who followed this AAR that kept it alive.
This game was much more demanding in the early years, now it's mostly puttering along and doesn't require that much time.
When you get children, like Wobbly, it's time to shelve your most time consuming hobbies for a while.

So true. That is one of the reasons i dont bother with PBEM - i have 3 little nippers, so my gaming time is rather sporadic - would drive a PBEM opponent nuts i think! The AI doesnt care how long it waits between turns.

Guess Andy is preparing for one last hurrah, he got 3 months to do it and will
probably only be needing 2 for another major assault.

More of the same, Bombay bombing missions and barge busting.
We hit the convoy of Iwo again despite a Wildcat CAP.

New Year 1946 and another enemy invasion is launched: Formosa this time.
4 Australian divisions are landed at Taipei after a heavy air and sea bombardment.

Taipei is clear hex and has a slight garrison, 250 AP.
In all Formosa holds ca 2700 AP. Reinforcements are moving but it's limited what we can achieve.
Andy can land troops further south and cut of Taipei by landing west of it.

So close to enemy air might we neither can nor will organize massed kamikaze and LBA attacks.
These are restricted to defense of Home Islands, and Formosa is not part of the inner defense perimeter anymore.

Formosa is well supplied and got heavy fortifications.

In all bases in Formosa is worth ca 1500 points + all the troops there.
Will probably take a month or so for Andy to capture it, we know he has 10k + ground attack capabilities.
Still, this may be an indication that he's looking for easier prey.

In China the Army reserve is ordered to move towards the coast.
When Formosa falls the coast will become more vulnerable. We can move ca 1600 AP to reinforce the garrisons.

Long break, been busy all along the line.
Don't really have much interest in playing through the last few months of this game since the result's already given
and nothing new will happen.

Considering to either take a break or call it a day, been a long war

I've been following this AAR since day one, though I tend to check in only on a weekly basis and don't post very often.

PZB, this has been one hell of a ride and you have shown us all that you are a great strategist. After plugging away at this game for so long I don't blame you for deciding to bring it to an end and take a bit of a break.

Just thought I'd say to you congrats on everything you achieved in this game. You were the pioneer of the India First strategy that inspired a lot of Japanese players. And thanks for the enjoyment that you gave to the people who've been following your exploits all this time.

i have to agree with freddy.

anyone who has the stamina to play WITP to 1946 earns alot of respect...espacialy when someone plays the japanese with such success like you, PzB.

when you want to end the game (what is understandable), it would be nice to post some screenshots about your best pilots, the aircraft and ship loses...

PzB - I am an AFB but have followed this AAR religiously. I consider it a bible for Allied players on the defensive. I hope you start a new game once AE comes out because I would love to see if the changes will make a difference. One change I know that would have helped you immensely is the elimination of the Pilot bug. How much could you have done if your Pilots stopped showing up with 40 EXP in 1944? Its scary to think - invasion USA?????

From one AFB to a respected and distinguished Japanese player, a mighty HUZZAH for a great game and AAR

Well, just think about it. Did you really want to spent your last years on Earth thinking : "I spent 3 years playing M:WITP with my buddy, we nearly got to the end... just a few more days and we would have actually finished the whole dang things... if I had known better..."

;)

Good job on your AAR, basically the only reason why I checked Matrix forum everyday. Kudos to you and rest well earned.

Thanx guys,

All the good support is one of the reasons why this game has kept on going for so long.
The show wont go off the air without detailed stats and summaries.

For now I've sent Andy an e-mail but not received a reply.

To play just to play isn't right, I can keep at it if it's FUN but currently it isn't.
Coming home thinking "Oh I haave to do the WitP" turn isn't right.

A game has to have something to give and currently no new hardware is finding its way into Jap armories. The last few subs are even stuck on the slip.

Andy has been a great opponent and sportsman, cudos to him.
Still, we only send turns with no comments to each other. No discussions or communication going on.

The conclusion from all of this is that the last 3 months of the game isn't really a big matter.
Will consider it and wait for Andy's reply

Having played a game to the "bitter end" (admittedly on 3 day turns) I fully understand. By second half 45 (at best), you're kind of just going through the motions.

Well, you can always start again with AE!

It has been a hard fought war. As a JFB, I have learned a few things from you that I will employ in my game

There should be a ladder (a good one with space for coments, points, and so on) to record games such as this. It is a shame to have this drift down the forum until it is a distant memory.

Anyway, a great game by you guys. I don't post much here, but I have enjoyed reading several AAR's during the past couple of years-and this was one of those.

Well, we do have VSWG's AAR list, and it has a Hall of Fame section.

It's been a week and no reply from Andy.
Maybe I'll start doing some summaries this weekend - loss stats, points etc.

Anything in particular you're interested in?

Think I need some time to 'reset' before looking into AE.
Maybe let others to some testing first!-)
Lots of other good Matrix wargaming titles coming out that doesn't require 5 years of your life

Hey Guys,

Any word from Andy? Would be sad to see this epic AAR slip away without a proper farewell and closure.

Congrats again PzB. And enjoy those extra hours with the wife (and kids?? maybe you will have time to work on that now!!).

Will check back in a week or so to see if any news.

Stu

Got a reply from Andy; he said he would have liked to see the game to the end but also agree with my views that the game had reached a low ebb and thus thanked me for the game.

I then offered Andy a draw and also an opportunity to finish the game sometimes later when we both had more time and motivation to play. After almost 3 weeks I've not heard anything more from him....
So for now I'll leave this old hunk on hold - if no more is heard from Andy I will come back with some summaries. We're almost at 300k hits, an achievement in its own

Thx for the continued support guys, think I'll download WWII Road to Victory and enjoy a good old beer and pretzel game for a while

Likewise; AAR was a blast to read. Appreciate the time you and your opponent both put into the game and the AAR.
