After a long lull in the fighting I have again put the Imperial war machine in gear!
Time to give the yanks he11 again

In the situation map it is illustrated how the liberation of Java will be carried out.
There are ca 130-150k enemy troops on the island, but they have been dispersed
among the different bases with roughly 30k in Madion, Tjilitjap, Soerabaja etc.

The armies already in place in Batavia have therefore been ordered to advance into
Soerabaja and Madion in order to tie up the enemy troops here. In the meanwhile another
120k troops are on their way to land at Kragen and split the island in two. Then the enemy
outposts will be reduced one by one. Their destiny is sealed, the Emperor has foreseen it

In Timor the 2nd Carrier Fleet with 200 ac will move closer to Lautern and support the battleship Ise as she
moves in to pound the enemy ground troops. If there are more enemy ships in the area they will be destroyed.
Ca 230 naval bombers have been put on alert in the surrounding bases.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 11/10/42

Surface Combat

Tanaka was ordered back to Timor as yesterdays job was only
half done. The small TF of 1 cl and 6 dd's met a large enemy battlefleet led by
the brand new South Dakota.

In a protracted battle Tanaka managed to surprise the enemy fleet twice and torpedoed
a destroyer, 2 cruisers and the battleship All of the enemy ships were shot up, including 3
DMS. Two Jap destroyers blew up and the flagship Jintsu was hit by 2 16" shells that caused
considerable damage. It should be possible for all of the (5) remaining ships to get back home
safely!

Intensified combat today as operations are coming increasing

Tanaka managed to bring his ships back to Kendari and the heavies
can now take over.

Moderate to heavy losses are expected as my transports and surface ships
moves into Lautern. There are mines, enemy PT boats - and a lot of bombers

Things were a little more...controlled in this turn!
Tomorrow the first troops transports arrive at Kragen - they've been there
before - so things shouldn't be too difficult

Landings will also take place in Lautern tomorrow.

In China I have moved 36 Zeros, 36 Tonys and 72 Tojos
into Manila. Average exp is now 70 and I will send most of them
to the South Pacific - the Marshalls to be specific. Desperately need
to bolster my fighter force there. Truk and Rabaul are also high up
on my list.

November 13th is my birthday...so in order to celebrate we landed at both Kragen
and Lautern. Nothing like coordination

As expected the only opposition was encountered of Timor! A few dive bombers broke through
the CAP and damaged the heavy cruiser Maya. A transport also hit a mine, but the troops got ashore.
I got another two tf's enroute - so I'll land whatever it takes.

Todays actions went according to plan - well mostly

Kragen was captured and I now got a door into which I can unload another couple of
divisions. A heavy CAP was immediately moved into the size 1 af and a base force will
be airlifted in. The plan is to move 60k troops to Soerabaja, this will give me almost 100k troops
to take on the ca 30k Americans, including a full Marine Division. Don't want to underestimate those
guys. It will be a gruesome loss for them though....

In Lautern the entire Bda is ashore and the South Seas Detachment will begin unloading tomorrow.
The paras dropped over Dili knocked their teeth out as they shock attack a 4000 strong garrison.
A cavalry brigade will be unloaded here tomorrow - this was my 'floating reserve'. I don't want
the troops at Lautern to retreat towards Dili.

36 Tojos have been moved to Rabaul - I now have a sizeable fighter force here.
Anoter 36 Tojos have gone to Kwajalein. I plan to move another 36 Tonys here - still don't have enough
fighters to protect Wotje and the surrounding bases.

This was quite a turn!! Were to begin....

Today David complained that his ac refused to fly - that happens when they
stay grounded for more than one day Well, the whole kitchen sink in Northern
Oz took of on anti shipping strikes today. That's why I brought my 2nd Carrier Fleet
to Timor. No less than 50!! enemy bombers were shot down today. The Ise's superstructure
was hit by more than 15 500lb bombs. She's not hurt badly, but 20 fires will undoubtdely
bring sys damage up into their 20's. So she's going back to the yards.

Battleships are excellent at swallowing up enemy bombs - their use in surface battles are..
dubious at best. So I'll use em for escorts, artillery and bomb magnets <G>

2 of the ships that carried a Cavalry Bde to Dili hit mines and unloading was delayed.
This allowed the Allied units there to kick out my paras. I will therefore not attack
Lautern until tomorrow - half of the South Seas Detachment is still at sea anyway, and
disruption is rather high.

There are alot of enemy subs around Timor, and today one of them caught up with the
2nd Carrier Fleet: the Swordfish put a torpedo into the Junyo and triggered a fuel storage
explosion Sys damage is 21 and there are 20 fires blazing. The ship has been given an escort
and will return to port in order to minimize damage. Will probably take 3-4 months to fix her.

I think David deserved that little success - been long between them lately and this should make
the game more fun for him...I hope

Most of my troops have now been unloaded at Dili and Lautern. The 10k troops
in the latter base will try to capture the base tomorrow. I only have 2500 troops
in a small Cavalry Bde in the former and they will simply stay there to force the
Lautern garrison to surrender.

I've hit quite a few mines, got a bb, cv, ca as well as several cls and dds damaged
in this 'limited' operation already. Hope David has done his worst for now. Fortunately
the fires aboard the Ise and Junyo have been contained. The carrier will get away with
a sys damage in the 30's while the battleship got 14 sys damage. Of all my battleships
the most fit one got 12 sys damage Need a long rest soon...

At Kragen a large army is forming up, in a few days it will march on Soerabaja.

I've boosted Oscar II production: in 14 days I will finally be able to upgrade all
of my Nates! Another long range fighter, no matter how dismal its performance may
be, always comes in handy.

Hi, Engineers reduce forts but you have to get at least 1-1 (1 level) 2-1 (2 levels) 2 levels is max for deliberate attack. In shock attack you can reduce up to 4 levels if you
A. Have 4 engineer units
B. Have at least a 4-1 ratio
You'll never reduce forts at 0-1

Must admit that sounds strange for me too... Forts are the reason why I
don't get a better odds and engineers are supposed to be the cure!?

The first deliberate attack against Lautern achieved a 2-1 odds and removed the
single fort there. Tomorrow we attempt to capture the base with a shock attack.

Another 20 enemy bombers were shot down today. They only managed to hit 2
transports. An enemy Avenger also put a torpedo in a destroyer. Should make
it home...

While I'm taking damage to many ships, very few of the actually sink. That's
a good thing and the advantage on fighting on home turf. The Ise is on her way to Shanghai,
15 sys damage. So it the Junyo with 35 sys damage. Still 3 fires left on the latter.

In China I have moved another 27 Zeros, 54 Kates and 27 Vals back to Japan after completing
their training. All units have an average of 70 exp. A few Chinese units have 'dissappeared' lately.
I still got a few targets to practice on though, and new air academies have been formed in India
and Burma

Enemy ac tried to hit Lautern today but were turned away by my cv CAP!
An escorted B-17 raid against Rabaul was also turned back without losses.
In all 5 P38s were shot down without loss - guess that's not what David
was hoping for. He will probably concentrate increasingly large numbers
of the new fighter though...

Another batch of Zeros arrived at Truk today. I'm slowly rebuilding my fighter strength
and now got 130 '0s' in the pool. David will find it increasingly difficult to find undefended bases
to bomb.

Within 1 week I will receive a new CVE and a CVL. The latter will replace the damage Junyo for
a few months. The 2nd Carrier Fleet will then field 1 cv and 4 cvls. In only 2 months the Taiho
will arrive and augment the already poweful 1st Carrier Fleet.

The battle for Timor drags out...me not like! The troops in Lautern are low in
supplies, the small Bde at Dili got most of the 1600 supplies..grmf! I'll shot that
quartermaster! So I'll bring in supplies and another large SNLF unit - if necessary.

It's mostly a sideshow, but I just didn't manage to capture the place as quickly as I
hoped and now have to stay within LBA range and provide targets for enemy subs.

I decided to wait another day before attacking in Colombo again: disruption surges
to ca 75 after a single attack and it take two days to get it back down to their 20's
again. The troops attack much more efficiently then.

The light carrier Zuiho was hit by a searchplane (Catalina) - I was afraid she had
again suffered heavy damage, but 12 sys damage wasn't too bad. Also got 6 fires
to put out. It is the very same ship that got hit twice by Dutch Do-24s during the
first invasion of the DEI. A really, really unlucky 'boat'... Will probably be torpedoed
soon

The turn started rather badly as subs hit two of my fleet oilers *fuel cargo catches fire*
is NOT a pleasent message to get!

Anyway - the day was saved - mostly by chance:
Thought I had cancelled the shock attacks at Lautern...must have goofed it up
cause my troops attacked again today: and captured the base 5000 Oz PoWs
were taken...

A large CAP prevented Allied bombers from intervening and another
carrier strike further suppressed the defenders. Now I can finally turn my
Cv Fleet and head away from the cursed place.

Dili still remains with a garrison of 5000 troops, but the size 1 af can't
threaten me. In a week or so I will have bombers ready in Macassar
and blast the place into rubble before landing reinforcements.

Hi Ken, long time
Yeah, it may be an unavoidable...destiny! Need a few $$ to fund my warmongering!

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 11/22/42

Destroyed 12 ac at the ruined air field at Colombo today. It's a kind of magic
that new ac can continue to appear there...

At Rabaul 32 P38's escorted in a heavy bomber raid! 10 enemy fighters were
shot down for 7 Jap ones, but another 10 heavies followed suit and half the
force was turned away. I've now moved in another 40 fighters. Will be
*costly* to bomb Rabaul....

The most quiet turn for a while... Only the 'routine' bombing missions.
A large army is now pooring into Soerabaja and the first deliberate
attack will take place in 2 days.

My navy really needs 2-3 months for R&R now - a full scale offensive has
been going on for almost a whole year!!! That's a long time, but in a few
short months all of the objectives will have been met and the long defensive
struggle can begin.

Another quiet turn!

For tomorrow I have ordered another deliberate attack against
Colombo as well as Soerabaja. In the latter I now have 130k troops
against ca 30k Allies. I hope it is possible to overwhelm the garrison..
that depends on how many forts that have been dug there. Quite a few
I guess, cause that's a supply producing base....

The 3rd Marines and supporting units came under heavy pressure today
as a large Japanese Army started assaulting their position in Soerabaja.
A 2-1 odds was achieved and forts reduced to level 5! How longe can they
hold out?

In Japan a new escort carrier with radar got its air wing: 27 Kates with an
average of 70 exp - fresh out of China! Tomorrow a light carrier will also
arrive from its shakedown cruise.

Surface Combat

The surviving HMS Indestructible showed up off Timor and launched a puny
attack against my garrison there - just beyond range of my naval bombers.

A little correction: It's of course the 2nd Marine Div that's trapped at
Soerabaja, not the 3rd!

Today a 4-1 odds was achieved while the forts were reduced to lvl 4!
That means that a full scale shock attack should defeat the defenders

That'll hurt the allies losing the 2ND USMC, unless he evacuated a cadre on a sub somewhere..

Amazing to see you still kicking ass in Late Late 42

Thanx guys!
The Marines were really doomed after the Allied fleet got destroyed/chased away and India fell.
They've just been awaiting their doom....

Madion and other Allied strongholds on Java are now being abandoned and troops are moving towards
Tjilitjap! I got another 2 large troop convoys enroute to Batavia from India. Two powerful pincers will
close around Bandoeng and Tjilitjap within 10 days!

In Colombo forts are down to lvl 2 - still 0-1 odds and my troops are fatigued. Almost time to shock attack,
but some R&R first. I'm confident that the bulk of enemy troops on Ceylon and Java can be captured in time
for the Emperors victory parade on January 1st

Today saw a lot of heavy air to air combat over Rabaul as more than 50 Lightnings
escorted the heavies. Fighter losses were roughly on a 1-1 scale, but another 20 bombers
also went down. (Some of these were shot down over Kendari which was also hit)

David has put his B-17s to bomb from 35k feet, my Zeros can't reach this
altitude - but they don't bomb very accurately from this height either.

I've moved in another batch of high altitude Tony interceptors... I don't think the US produce
more than 50-60 P-38s each month, so it's limited how many of these attacks that can be
mounted - yet!

A more accurate loss description is provided at the bottom of todays report!

Several enemy transports were also observed heading east towards Java.
Suicide squad?

David has moved a P38 group to Java - and of course my Zeros decided to stay
home while my Sallys went to the slaughter..again I lost 25 medium bombers today.
We managed to shoot down another 13 Forts though. As soon as Colombo and Java have
been captured I will rest my medium bomber force and rebuild a stock of reserve ac.

A whole fleet of transports are moving into Tjilitjap now - I really don't understand what's
the meaning of this combined suicide attack! The Second Carrier Fleet will rip them apart
tomorrow. If that doesn't close the case 2 cruiser divisions will also arrive to barricade Tjilitjap
tomorrow. There is no escape!

Tomorrow we will attack and capture Madion - only a small enemy force left here. A shock
attack will also be attempted at Colombo - I expect this to fail, mostly because that place has
always been such a bloody PITA!

Oscar II production will also be put into gear tomorrow at 190 ac pr month - a number that will
increase to over 250. This will make it possible to upgrade hundreds of outdated Nates over the next
few days.

At Truk the carriers Akagi and Zuikaku set sail for Japan under heavy escort in order to undertake
their 08/42 upgrades. Sys damage is down to 4 and 2 while their sister still have 10 sys damage points.
So I have decided to rotate them in and out. In less than 2 months I will put together a large carrier fleet
around Truk. I don't expect any major enemy invasion attempts before that.

David has started to bomb Paramushiro from the Aleutians... I had all but forgotten about
that place. Had a plan about invading an island me thinks, but forgot about it. Seems like there are
sizeable US bases in the area now. Well, I can't see much harm coming from that direction in quite a while
yet. Better put more troops on my flank over the next year or so though!

Otherwise the heavy air attacks all over the Pacific continues - even an enemy carrier has showed up south
of the Marshalls and launched a small strike. Moved in some naval bomber squadrons today as well as some Zeros.

The shock attack at Colombo reduced the forts to lvl 1 - but as expected - failed to capture the base. I achieved a 1-1
odds with 5 forts and can't get a 2-1 with only 1 fort remaining

Madion was captured though and we continue the march towards Tjilitjap and its 60k defenders. There are still 20k enemy
troops at Bandoeng.

Not many enemy ships left outside of Java now..a few enemy medium bombers sortied
from Tjilitjap but didn't inflict much damage. Tomorrow several battleships will hammer the
place.

Yesterdays bombardment attack against Dili showed that only a base force remained and
todays attack captured the base easily together with a few transports. I got my own problems
as the fast transport bug has eaten my South Seas Detachment The bulk of the unit that
was picked up at Lautern never arrived at Kendari and I now only got a small fragment left.
Darned bugs...

In Tokyo the Yamato and the Junyo have arrived in order to speed up their repair (38 and 35 sys damage).
I've upgraded a small 12 ac squadron of Nates - will test out the new Oscar IIs. They have a long range (8 hexes),
carries 30kg bombs and can climb to 36k feet. At least they will be versatile ac

Another 2 divisions and 2 tank regiments have now unloaded at Batavia and are
marching towards Bandoeng. In all 230k troops will mass on Tjilitjap in order to

In Kwantung the final regiment of a division is moving to a port to get shipped to Guam.
