Thx Irrelevant..not the right place for a typo

A couple of quiet turns, not sure what Andy wants around Siador but I decided
to kick him out. Don't want that ulcer to grow...

Still quiet around Timor but there are some transports in the north Oz harbours.
Got construction units in almost all of the bases on Guinea now and is continuing to
move reinforcements to the area.

The KB has not encountered anymore subs and in another 2 days the subs will be
ordered into position. They will not send out their Glen's until everything's set.
Don't want Andy to get suspicious!

Ah, the game crashed just as I was about to finish the turn Here's the combat report...

Another 4 Allied transports and a minesweeper sunk! We're continuing to nibble away at Andy's
flanks.

Judy's are now ready for production with the first 4 ac delivered. Is the Judy any better than the Val?
To me they appear to be all but similar

AKAIK its the judys speed thats the advantage, i.e more leakers vs a target with CAP cover. No idea if it actually works as advertised though

Death to PT's ! nice shooting , i hate the little blighters and i'm playing allies !

True, the Judy is pretty fast Rob! Problem is that the 250kg bomb isn't worth swat.
Perhaps I should try to reduce the number of them on my cv's and increase fighter and torpedo
bomber complements?

I will have an advantage as soon as all my Kate's have been upgraded to Jills: massive torpedo strikes
from 5 hexes! The plan is to engage the enemy carriers while they CAP an invasion fleet.

PT boats are pesky...Yamamoto is very good at avoiding them. Got plenty of work for him

Andy flew a recon mission over Truk from Green Island yesterday, think the Lightning was shot down.
Had quite a few Zekes, Tojos and Oscars on cap. My carriers are still at anchor, right!-) Truk is quite a hub,
530 aviation support and some 700 ac. Not sure how long it can remain so.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 08/06/43

A transport is hit between Marcus island and the Marianas. I actually sailed this one

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 08/07/43

Mostly a barge busting turn... First Andy sent his PT boats to Talasea, they didn't
perform all too well and only sank one barge. T-bolts sank another 7 and the heavies plastered
Kavient and Emirau island. The former is closed but the latter has become a hub with plenty of supplies
and engineers.

Going to remain passive for a while - got lots of ships and ac to fix, train and deploy. The KB is moving slowly towards
the east ca 12 hexes north of Midway now. Rendezvous with the replenishment TF in 4-5 days I guess.

Been considering a strike against one of the ports on the West Coast - or even PH! Probably too risky, but still...imagine
a second KB strike on the Pacific Fleet

If you dare, my advice is to raid Seattle. It is then easier to escape, has probably fewer defences than other W coast bases and has a repair yard where probably one capital ship (BB or CV) will be at once, so your aircrew will have few targets, so you are sure to sink it. With your fleet, I will use Vals to crush the airfield, and Kates against the port. Next day, all Vals and Kates to bomb strategic targets (like heavy bomber factories....) before leaving the area. You may score more than 1000 points easily. It's definetly possible in 1942, in August 1943 I don't know.

Frankly, a strike against the coast or PH looks to me much more profitable than an hazardous raid against his shipping. While you know he will have nice ships in the harbour, you can't be sure about the convoies. I'd love to see this gigantic operation ending in sinking something else than two or three AKs and APs

PH would be a superb move if the CAP is unable to repulse everyone (quite sure) while keeping yourself out of the range of the possible Navy and Marine Naval bombers there. The main problem is to remain undetected until the last moment as usual, of course, but you know it better than all of us.
If indeed there's something to do in Seattle, it would be fun to give PH a visit with a glen two days before you reach Boeing's place, just to be safe

I know it is always easier to advocate a bolt move when your own assets are not at stake - but still, if it succeeds, it would be an amazing piece of damn victory :)

I dunno.

I think it would be a bit disappointing to fight your way through a massive CAP over Pearl or Seattle and end up finding a minesweeper to sink or something .. !

Better to flush out the capital ships with air raids on his shipping and then sink them at sea, where they'll never be repaired!

He can use Glen from sub to recon Seattle a turn before attack.

IIRC, Zeta or Witp Dude had successful raid on WC in 1943 or even 44.

Yes it was a kamikaze raid by the whole Japanese fleet remaining at this stage. Zeta did it in November 1944 and sank two CV in San Francisco before losing all ships.

Interesting options...but I'm afraid I got bad news! The KB moved past Midway and the carrier
Unryu was spotted by a Liberator It could have come from the Aleutians - only 12 hexes from the
nearest base (14 from Midway). Guess I should have kept one hex further south as the replenishment group
managed to a squeeze through without being spotted.

So I had to make a difficult decision: continue the mission despite of the sighting or abort.

I don't think it'll be possible to take Andy by surprise, so I ordered to abort. Perhaps the operation can be
repeated in a month or so!? Anyway, the spy subs will carry out the operation and try to convince Andy that my
carriers are still coming

I really can't afford to loose that many of my carriers, so any port strike against a large base is almost out of
the question. Send in a search plane and Andy can move 500 ac into the place in no time.

There will be more opportunities - we have to be patient!

Well with the KB sighted there won't be many targets left. Attacing a port is likely to cost you a lot of aircraft for little gain. However the presence of the KB will disrupt his shipping in the area for a while.

My large tanker replenishment fleet got through,...with 13 hexes of ocean on each side of a TF there is always a good chance of punching through.
Didn't expect it to be easy, but it was worth a try. May I'll come back with a smaller TF to throw Andy of guard a bit later

Still a bit uncertain about hitting enemy ports - will continue to wait for openings.

Lots of air attacks in the South Pacific, otherwise quiet!

I've begun to move some ships from Truk to Ulithi - our backup fleet port. With some AR, AD and AS ships the size 8 port
should be quite useful. The plan is to have light fleet units, subs and transports at Truk for as long as possible while the KB
and battlefleet is stationed at Ulithi.

Yep, 3 boats will scout the West Coast while another one checks out PH! Will keep Andy on his toes
and provide usefull intel I hope.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 08/10/43

Another 8 barges sunk by fighter bombers and PT boats... Emirau and Kavieng
still under heavy air attack, otherwise quiet.

I've been trying to decide whether Truk can be defended - and I think it can! 6 hexes to the nearest base means
that his heavy bombers have to come in unescorted. Even when the Admirality and Emirau islands fall only P-38s can
reach it. So I'm going to place 400 fighters here together with ample amounts of supplies, AA and engineers. Any raid by
his cv's will have to face a heavy complement of naval bombers - and possibly the KB!

My escort carriers now have close to 150 ac and provides the nucleus of the South Western Fleet. More and more trained Zeke
and Betty bombers are being deployed in the area as well. So I'm feeling pretty safe for the time being. Another week and I can
release the 2nd Armoured Division for the Philippines. This will be the first of many major reinforcements to this theatre. Time to
get ready for McArthurs return!?-)

The heavy cruiser Chikuma on speed trials!
