It was Navy but land-based, hence the -J appended to the end. (J signified Navy land-based fighter, such as J2M Raiden).

It started as a float-plane fighter which is why it had the original N classification which was retained in later wheeled versions.

Prototype carrier based versions N1K3-A and N1K4-A (A for Carrier based like A6M) were made but didn't enter production. Thanks to Francillon.

Thx guys! I do consider the George a land based fighter, so I will not place it on my carriers.
Too bad the game doesn't allow us to research the naval version... Upgraded the first Daitai today,
got 4 99 exp pilots with 130+ missions. It's experience and numbers that will be important. Crack units
supported by hundreds of Oscars. Got 250+ AV support in all of the islands in the Marianas chain by now.

In George you should trust
Why? Because it's the only fighter with solid stats you have. My advice is: overuse them.
Yes, they will suffer. But, having in mind it's non-PDU and you will only have limited numbers available, you should make use of all that overproduction (171 if I'm not mistaken). Use the crack guys for as long as they live (don't abuse them, of course, just don't hide them). Even if replacement pilots are green, some might survive. It's a solid plane and survivability is increased even if just a bit. Use tham where they can make a difference and stay away from regular escort missons (too many Oscars are just crying for a shot at dying in vain). When some extra squadrons arrive you can start a serious training campaign in China, but in the meantime use them, even if green in which case they are still good medicine for the heavies that will soon go for Truk, Kendari, Amboina.

Sup PzB

Just a question: I remember you tried already to use some H8K in night naval attack, with no hit it's true, but still they managed to find the target, right? No plans to try out this one more time? Or using Dinahs as 100ft night fighter bombers against the enemy shipping?
What about other plane types and squadron possible night-time operations? Or what about huge Emilies concentration for a big strike?

In fact, any plan of night air action again, or is there anykind of a rule forbidding it?

hi, another question for Master PzB...

What are your plans for the troops on Kaveing?

Rabaul seems to falling in greedy American hands, slowly but surerly. Once when Andy posses Rabaul, Kaveing become "small and uninportant base for the Japs". That's the time when you should deploy on second defensive line (NG-Truk-Wake).

Do you have a plans for evacuating troops from Kaveing since it becomes clearly that you can't kick out American from the beaches or do you have some diabolic (not cuning ) offensive plan?

In a way I agree with you Honda..but I'm a bit unsure what effect 54 semi or untrained George's will
have on the war. Was thinking about training the units to an avg exp of 90 and then test their effectiveness.
We can try to run some tests when the time comes.

I'm receiving 4 large George units over the next year but the first one doesn't arrive for another 267 days.

Fishbed, I've had my best H8K on night naval attack at Kwajalein for weeks on end (close to 90 avg exp). It's very
difficult to make them sortie, so I'm not bothering with any major night initiatives. The ac usually get blown to
pieces on the runways by large numbers of US heavy bombers....

Pauk, that's a good question! Imperial High Command has been pondering over the issue for a while without coming to
a conclusion. It will cost dozens and dozens of transports and auxilliaries to evacuate them. Guess it would be worth it so yes, an attempt will most likely be made. In order to succeed under murderous enemy fire numbers is the only solution.

Emirau and Admirality Isl will also be in a hopeless situation after Rabaul falls and their fall will again compromise the position of seveal bases in central New Guinea and Truk itself. So a rear guard has to be left behind and prolong these events for as long as possible. All these bases have 8 or 9 forts and lots of mines.

I will not commit my precious fleet destroyers or cruisers in numbers for these operations: smaller destroyers types and aux vessels will have to do.

Hi John,

The George groups I had in the Mariana's scenario got toasted by the Hellcats. IIRC 50 were lost for about 4-8 Hellcats. Av exp was about 50ish. I had an ace afterwards though I remember

hmmm... we are bunch of desperate Jap fanboys aren't we? We have discussion about 54 Georges like they will be able to save the whole Empire....

Seriously, i would keep then in the "dark" and then use them ... I dunno know for sure but guess that experience above 80 should give better results. It is certainly worth to try...

As for a Kaveing... you can try evacuation with subs (you have plenty of them in that area, right?) and via fast transports - i know that it's impossible to evacuate a full division with FT and subs, but you will keep your evacuation in secret for several days. And that's important. If you send APs Andy would be probably alerted and he would certainly come to conclusion that you give up here.

Let's keep him in faith that you will desperatly fight here.

I doubt that Andy would set PP for next target if he expect "last man defence", instead of this he will probably set other units to prepare on Kaveing etc.... and that's 30 more days gained! (he need that time to prepare for next target)

Just use a few aircraft from truk to pick up the troops if you have some time.
A chutai of Emilys would do the trick if you're in no hurry. You can add more planes if you need too. Aircraft are great for moving troops around your forward bases without risking your ships, but watch for the air transport bug which is nasty.

Nice video Fishbed!

Subs *ROFL* Think I got 8 or nine left and I have to keep them far away from the enemy...
Think I will evacuate parts of the troops on Kavieng and force Andy to spend time and resources
to remove them. Have to take out units in bits and pieces!

Will try to train my George units to 90 exp and see how they fare! Can't hurt - if they don't
deliver I will simply send them into combat with mediocre pilots. The plane isn't a wonder weapon
but it will boost our defensive capabilities

I've started to evacuate parts of the garrison at Kavieng - bulk of the 33rd Division

least a division to slow Andy down.

Andy felt things were going well today...so of course we tried to convince him about
the opposite!

I've been trying to hit enemy convoys at Majuro for a while but Andy's been running a large
bombardment group back and forth to Maloelap. Kinda difficult to plan a proper attack. Today I
sent a battleships group in: it was escorted by 2 destroyers TFs.

As suspected Andy's battleships went back to Maloelap and we got to the transports
(I wasn't too keen on engaging the modern Alabama and the old Colorado with two old Kongo class
battlehsips. The Mutsu suffered a single system point of damage and lost one knot - thus making it impossible
to stage 5 hexes to Majuro.)

Not a great victory but we sank 3 destroyers, 2 minesweepers and damaged quite a few transports badly without
loosing any ships. The enemy's strength will grow more slowly if we can continue to press this type of attacks
and I'm gaining experience in 'sneakiness'

Fast transport or/and airlift.
Got quite a few large Navy Guard Units in the area and they're easy to move around.

Kwajalein holds close to 50k troops in all - Eniwetok 30k, and the rest of the atolls in the area 12k
each. I've split a crack division and placed 3 regiments on 3 different atolls. Base force units with inf squads
complement them.

90% of the 33rd Division has been extracted from Kavieng - it will stay on Truk for now. It is possible to get
another division out and move it to Kwajalein, this would free up at least 2 large guard units.

Upgraded my second George Daitai - the first one got 17 ready ac. Will move back to training camp
and train to an avg exp of 90. I think it will do my air defenses good to have a few elite units around.

Recon tells me Andy got 11k troops on Kai Island. Mostly airlifted in. Hm, is it possible to recapture this place?
Dunno were the US carriers are, no sign of em for a while. Kinda expecting them to pop back up around Timor and in the Marshalls.

Are you planing to train pilots in the Georges? I wouldn't do it - you can train air crew in old planes (Zero or whatever) and after that you can upgrade them. No need to give free intel to Andy. Anyway, 84 exp of your first George Daitai sounds good... together with Tony's you can set a nice ambush for his 4E bombers (Truk, NG)...

Hard call. If you want to keep Maloelap (and it seems that you have to) you gonna need reinforecments. But even you reinforce Maloelap it is questionable how your troops from Kwajalein would perform there since they are prepared for the Kwajalein - Andy certainly have units with PP on Maloelap...

Hm... if you don't plan counter attack (and it seems that you don't) in Rabaul/Kaveing area then your position in the Marshalls would be extremly fragile (he can interdict your traffic from Truk to Marshalls) and if you decide to keep rugged defence in the Marshalls he could invade Truk.

I'm afraid (but i could be wrong of course) that only reasonable solution is defending Marshalls with forces you have there and delay Andy. If you have to defence islands it's better to defence Wake or (better) Marcus - he will not have advantage of supporting his fleets with Corsairs, Hellcats and all those nasty capitalist toys....

I thought about those problems Pauk...training George's will reveal their presence but Andy
knows they were slated for arrival in late 43 anyway. It's possible that I'll simply move them to
the Marianas and start building the nucleus of a strong air reserve.

I don't want the Marshalls to fall too quickly and this can best be achived by defending Maloelap as
long as possible. So I'll try to divert some reinforcements into the area. Enemy search planes spotted
the Mutsu at Kwajalein today - should be enough to discourage further bombardment attacks and attract
enemy carriers (we don't want them around Timor right now; )

My evacuation of units from Kavieng is continuing: the entire 33rd Division is out and the 18th Division is
next. Then I will leave the rest except an engineer regiment and a couple of base forces. That will provide me
with reserves for the continued defense of Truk, the Admiralities Islands and New Guinea.

Tomorrow we receive large air reinforcements: the first A6M5c Zeke Fighter bomber unit with 48 ac + close to
100 A6M5 Zeke fighters.

I've moved the Kaga to Tokyo to finish repairs (sys damage 8) and perform 2 upgrades. Shanghai, Hong Kong and
Singapore have received lots of damaged ships and their repair yards are rather busy for some time to come...

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 10/13/43

Nothing really interesting to report today - ground units at Kavieng, Rabaul
and Maloelap were bombed...so let's take a look at our next adventure:

The invasion of Kai Island - Operation Kai-ten

Kai Island is still only a size 1 af, so there are no enemy bombers there.
The place is 6 hexes away from Darwin, so no Corsairs or other pests within range either.
There are some Spits and Corsairs on Kai Island itself though. Will try to avoid tangling with
them.

A perfect opportunity to either wipe out a strong enemy position or force their surface combat
units and carriers into action. We got plenty of LBA in the surrounding bases and the newly reformed
Carrier Escort Division will provide close support together with 4 the battleships Fuso, Yamashiro, Ise
and Hyuga (2 of the bb's are now part of the invasion tf's.).

The KB is providing cover and is currently positioned just west of northern New Guinea.

I'm landing a full elite army division and the crack navy South Seas Detachment and a base force unit.
Additional reinforcements can be drawn from the surrounding bases.

The 14th of October will be remembered as the day Truk was bombed!
312 heavies escorted by 97 long range P-38J's hit our base in force.

I've been expecting something like this and only a few weeks ago the Fleet abandoned
Truk as their main base and moved back to Ulithi. There were only some transports,
auxiliaries and 2 training cruisers in port and a handful of them suffered damage.

I didn't keep my air reserves over Truk and that was just as good since it would be all but
impossible to stop 300 heavies and 100 P-38's. Quite a few fighters were destroyed in the air
and on the ground, but again it was my air transport corpse that paid the heavies price. Some
126 transports were torched.

There are relatively few enemy heavy bombers in northern Australia and in the Gilberts/Marshalls so
the good thing about all this is that our invasion of Kai is more likely to succeed. Andy is playing
very well - but he's doing a lot of things simultanously and it's difficult for him to committ 100% to
all these operations. His carriers raided the Admiralities today - and that suits me very well! I don't
have many valuable assets in the area and my fleets around Kwajalein and Timor can now continue to operate
with impunity.

Operation Kai-ten had a good start and more than 10k troops unloaded on the first day. Enemy subs were diverted
and we managed to shoot down almost a 100 enemy ac that tried to intervene. Our Escort Carrier division performed
well and our bombardment fleet neutralized the Spits and Corsairs on Kai Island itself. Tomorrow we got t-storms
coming and it's uncertain how effective the enemies LBA will be. Our own LBA will now join the battle and a strong
LRCAP will be placed over Kai Island as our bombers are ordered to attack.

On Maloelap another enemy attack was repulsed: so things are going well on 2 out of 3 fronts.

Another bloody turn...much like yesterday! Andy is pushing on two fronts while I'm busy
on a third. The plan is to bend but not break. My reserves are gathering around Ulithi but I
don't think the US carrier will move any closer.

150 reinforcement Zeros from Japan will form the nucleus of the defence together with my new George's.
Still got plenty of bombers and there are another 400 fighters in China that can be moved south in an
emergency. So I'm feeling rather confident despite of the heavy beatings Andy is handing out. My reserves
are far from depleted even though the loss of bases and ac is unfortunate. We're still fighting a
battle to delay the Allied advance towards our main defensive line.

This is very interesting and I'm enjoying myself despite of gloom prospects for 1944

I may be willing to committ another division if necessary. 99% of the enemy's resources are now outside Truk and Kwajalein.

A light carrier force tried to hit my ships at Kwajalein today but bad weather foiled the attack!

I'm getting ready to assault Kai Island: hopefully we can have this over with soon.

Soon it will be time to move our ac out of the Marshalls - the place is too hot. Got to
keep something around to slow Andy down and cause a bit wear and tear.
For the rest of the year we will fortify the Marianas and bring our combined might together.
Should be possible to strike against the enemy as he slowly advances into New Guinea.

Truk must be held so I'm going to keep lots of troops there and evacuate most of the ships
and ac.

The reason I'm so jumpy about Kai Island is because it's part of my main defensive line. Don't want
cracks in it. Timor - Northern New Guinea - the Marianas - Wake Island must be held. The big assault
will come in 1944.

King Penguin!

A good turn as we wipe out the enemy on Kai Island. The entire 5th Division is already
loaded back onto the transports and on its way back to Kendari.

Andy tried to race after his prey: the Kwajalein battlegroup! But it's too late, the ships
are already half way to Tokyo/Ulithi.

In 26 days we receive the first Daitai equipped with the Jack interceptor. Large 72 ac formations
of Zekes will also arrive - these will fit perfectly on my carriers. Within 7 months another 3 fleet,
1 light and 3 escort carriers will also join the fleet. Time to look ahead - the more time we buy the
more land combat units we will receive. It should be possible to turn the Philippines into a huge fortress.

The fight will continue....
