See attached pix. The Japs show a light red and a dark red symbol.

Well I thought it had to do something with the number of troops too. But I've seen the lighter colors with 2-4 units in it. So my question would then be more then what?

Status: offline 		not units then maybe assult values.. I remember lots of units are 5 to ten or 0, and probably make no defference.. in China a IJA force in the 1000 to 2000 assult range will be even when exasted from lack of supply and continually 7 marching attacking be very dark

Status: offline 		Also note these are estimated values with FOW, I've seen the game think a couple of base forces were in fact some heavy duty divisions and shown a rather dark square for them.

So when a huge pile of troops rolled in to deal with them, and the square turned light after the first battle with only a small number of spotted troops, I found out the deployment was overkill ;)

Status: offline 		That's good to know, but OTOH if the recon has been done properly you should at least know how many units are there, which either that or a higher level of intel. ought to adjust that color somewhat.

Status: offline 		I believe its not an indication necessarily of unit numbers, but more of their assault strength.. The more assault points, the darker the icon... Whether its 1 division or 5 partial units doesn't matter - at least I don't beleive so.

Yes recon makes it more accurate I believe, which is why using it is a very good idea!
