Hello Everyone:

I don't know if another MC is in the works or not, but I would like to see something unique – different – considered for the next MC. While I am partial to USMC () battle, a European or Pacific campaign is OK with me, and I even like a tank-infantry balance.

I would like to see a thread started here with your preferences for the next MC, or if Matrix is not up to the challenge, a long regular SPWAW campaign.

What would you like to see or play? Here are my preferences to start. Granted some have already been done in whole or part. but a new design twist might be fun:

1. Okinawa
2. Singapore
3. Italy
4. Norway
5. Kursk
6. France 1940
7. Stalingrad
8. Hypothetical Invasion of England
9. Hypothetical Invasion of the Middle East (Rommel breaks through to the Suez)
10. Hypothetical Invasion of Australia by the Japanese

BruceAZ, last year there was some tentative discussion about this, but I've heard nothing in several months. I'm with you on another Pacific campaign, but we already have "Watchtower". I had broached the idea of a "mini-mega" package, featuring two or three multi-scenario battles on one CD, but nothing came of it. IF there is ever another MC, it will be one campaign given the full-Mega treatment.

I will say that the subject of contemplation is on your list, but that's all.

BTW, have I ever told you that I love that avatar of yours, but you deserve it far more than I could ever hope to.

A hypothetical invasion of Britian would be cool.

BTW: If I remember right couldn't you do this in the original version if you played well during the long campaign?

Hey Recon!

Two factors should be considered in contemplating a new Mega Campaign. The first is the matter of the combatants. So far we have Germans, US Marines, Airborne. Appearing but under AI control are the Japanese, Russians, British, and Germans.

Then there is the location along with the time period. We've covered 1941, 1942, and 1944, all in part, in North Africa, the Pacific, Russia and Western Europe.

A new Mega Campaign should at least offer a new human combatant. THis time it would in the light of overall contribution to the war something with the UK involved. Here one could include India, Australia, New Zealand, Free French, Poland, Jewish and other lesser nationalities.

We have not really touched upon the Soft Underbelly of Europe. Sicily and Italy might be our best choice, using the UK as the major human combatant.

As KG, I had suggested earlier a series of mini-mega campaigns, perhaps offered in one package. It never did come to fruition.

I would enjoy seeing more of these, for sure!

Hi Bill:

Good to hear from you again. There are lots of possibilities and I do like the idea of something with England or others but I would suggest it should be really unique. The British always have such cool names for their regiments! Hussars this and Shires that!

Italy would be good and really give you a diverse mix of nationalities, operations, and units along with great terrain possibilities. A series of short campaigns is also a good idea but I am not sure if a MC format would make economic sense to Matrix or the SPWAW community - maybe a series of short non-MC campaigns (3 to 5 battles) grouped in a set as KG suggested might have broad appeal.

Anyway, food for thought. Good input.

Take care.

Bill,

I can't believe I'm agreeing. I am just now fully recovered from MCSE.

If you do try another one, I'm back in with ya.

My suggestion... Italy from Messina or Salerno to post-Anzio, British perspective.

This subject pops up now & again, and the idea for a new MC is still possible. After the release of the final OOBs, and feedback on these is digested, things should be stable as far as future tweakings of SPWaW is concerned. (In other words, hopefully no more patches will be needed.)

Depending on the subject matter, I've already committed to Bill that I will be there if called upon. The core of the design team is still intact, but many are busy with their own projects.

I'll end this post with the thought, "Never say never again."

I second that, Wild Bill!

Commonwealth "Up the boot" in 1943/44/45 and you can count me in! That would also give me the final motivation to get the mediterranean style houses finished! hehe

Soviet Union 1943-45 "Kursk to Berlin" (since they´re mainly on attack at that time) would also be great.

Generally there´re so many possibilities for another Megacam and I think each would be worth a try.

Well....I believe CL will come first this time.

Hi Mog!

I never thought of it but a campaign about the French Resitance might be cool! Good input. After blowing up the bridge, I can just see my partisans racing towards their getaway car as the Germans are hot on their tail! But for a MC, Italy would be OK by me.

Well I have oft said I could care less what the topic, another MC is cool.

Sadly though, we always get all gungho, and then the cruel reality is, we either have access to the MC software or we have nothing.

Soooo, when someone gets access to this priviledged program let me know, and I am interested in assisting.

I wonder that the many scen makers don´t put heads together and start something like the Red Steel campaign makers did in the past! Sure it´s not the same as a Mega Campaign, but....

Good point. If all of the developers made 3 battles each, do you realize how big the campaign would be? Maybe a hundred or more! Nothing fancy except a creative map concept and a good AI force pick to challenge the player. Humm...

Now that's gaming!

We all have our favorites. I know that I do. Matrix, however, would be forced to choose a theme that would be productive for them economically. We just have to face that. Doing a Mega-Campaign that would interest a small number (even though it interests you A LOT!) would probably unfeasible.

So thinking in those terms, what would be a good production for the gaming community and a profitable investment by Matrix?

I am the sort the doesn't care for beating around the bush eh Bill.

I suggest a case of beer and a visit to David Heath's place over a weekend, and flat out ask him, "so David, what setting do YOU want to do?" :)

Hey I am easy to please eh.

I could list a long list of choices, but in the end, I just want more mega campaigns.

You are probally right, Bill. Look at the MC sales. Do they justify the financial investment, even if much of the work is done with volunteers? Probally not or they would be jumpin' at the opportunity. I don't know how they handle costing (direct or variable) but I would imagine it is closely tied to labor and that can be very high. Why waste the dollars on something that does not generate sufficient income to cover costs?

Might be smarter to just consider a traditional SPWAW campaign with a theme of our own choosing. Then we can share it with the community at large. A volunteer group could be assembled fairly easily and this could keep our minds (and fingers) occuppied until the release of CL.

Talk about timeing...

I was just thinking about this very subject the other day and I came up with the idea of a resistance campaign in occupied france.

I've been thinking of the missions one could do, and you'd have quite a few werid and wonderul units, with different objectves to normal, for example a slugfest with the Germans is the last thing you want, so the human player has to fight smart.

I even threw a small senario today togeather to test the princeiple out.

BTW: Alow me to re-introduce myself, I worked on Lost Victories as a senario tester, and I even did one of the senario's. But that was years ago.

am i the only one interested in a Russian campaign?
Say like some element from the 8th Guards Army
from Chuikov's bunker in Stalingrad to Hitler's in Berlin?
Wish I could make one myself.

Hi guys!

Been a while, but I'm back!

My vote would be a sequel to Lost Victories, or, as others have suggested, a post Stalingrad, Russian Front MC, as the Soviets.

Hi Alex!

Welcome back - sure miss your great AAR's.

Wild Bill, if I was to be a "bettin' man", (quote Audie Murphy) I would suggest, from a financial point of view, a Kursk to Berlin MC with many tank battles and the AI going against the Russians. There is a great interest in area and probally would do well as a MC.

Thanks Bruce.

Dunno how soon I'l go back to AARing. It's harder doing them real time like I do with a two year old demanding attention all the time. And, by the time she's then I'm normally to frazzled to focus on AARs. But, that doesn't mean I still don't play!

As for MC's, here's another idea. If I understand SE right (and, yes, I still need to get it, and I will), it's basically 4 smaller campaigns, right? Each built around a Para Regiment of 101.

Why not do something like that, except multi-nationally? What you could do is have a series of unit based mini MCs. You could for example use SSLAHs Recon Battalion during Operation Mars, when it was basically the QRF for the entrire German Defense. You could follow a Marine Raider Battalion's history in the Pacific, maybe do the same for an Aussie unit, a British one in the Desert, or post D-Day, and ditto for the IJA, and the Red Army.

Any thoughts?

Oh, and if we do do this again, consider me available for testing, etc, Col. Wilder, sir :)

I've given some thought to that type of campaign. The setup of MC makes that impossible. Your "Core" force is going to be the same all the way through. That is, if you choose Russian troops, they will be Russian troops, regular infantry, guards, cavalry, etc.

If it were possible to set up such an MC one would have to have different core forces for each theater of operations.

Perhaps one day such a thing will exist for the long awaited Combat Leader. It would be a very nice feature and give great latitude to the making of Mega Campaigns.

Good to see you back Alex. Hope the baby and Mama are well.
