I have been trying to form a 'cargo' transport every way I can, hopefully so my convoys will not route themselves right through the heart of the Marshalls. I have not been able to do it. I have tried thread searches for this topic, but have been unsuccessful for some reason. Somebody HELP me! I can only designate Transport, Tanker, or Amphib. All have suicidal TF commanders....

I don't think you can in the current version of the game. This is what I do as a work around. Say you want to transport cargo from Pearl or the West Coast to Noumea. Instead off setting Noumea as the destination base, set it as the new home base for the TF. Then set some hex in the deep SE Pacific, say near Pago-Pago as the destination. Yes, you will have to manually reverse the process once the TF has unloaded at Noumea to get the fleet back home. But this is the only way I know to be sure of staying out of harm's way.

Matrix is deliberately silent about what is considered a bug and what they are fixing. I think, but I'm not sure, that Kid (or someone from Matrix) has said that they are working improving the AI routines controlling TF routes. It would be much simpler if they player could just specify waypoints but we have been told that is impossible due to the existing programming. Until and unless those changes are made, the new home port trick is the best you can do.

(BTW, all the TF commanders are suicidal. )

I've found that the more escorts a TF has the more willing it is to put itself in harms way. With fewer escorts it takes big detours to avoid possible enemy air power.

The problem with that is ASW and AA are both reduced.

Better to just route it yourself.
