Well my troops in the Philippines may hold out for another month or so. My forces in Burma are getting huge and my forces in Sinapore are all at full strength now. I am starting to get more and more troops and ships to move them with and I think his airforce is a scared in the Singapore and Burma area. He can't have to many highly skilled Zero pilots left since he has lost 770 total (420 A to A, 26 flak, 97 ground, and 227 to ops). I have lost a total of 272 P40's to air to air and 162 f4f's to air to air.

My top pilots alive at the moment are.

J. hall 20 P40
Conkling 15 P40
Presley 11 F4F navy
Alford 10 F4F marines
Sparks 12 hurricane Aussie
Kershaw 9 hurricane British.

Costs are great? Geez, you got your butt kicked. Another attack like that and you may never recover from it. I would suggest you re-think that.

The goal here is to get the fortifications down to zero. I have plenty of troops I can rotate in and out to keep them fresh. There are even several divisions in Machuria that can be used. Those that don't have the stomach for bloody trench warfare please turn away or cover your eyes.

Hi, I'm not sure your attacks would go any faster with 1 day turns. 1 Day of rest reduces disruption by around 15. Your attacks have to be keeping your units above 60 disruption.
If you tried to attack every day (1 day turns) you would not hurt the enemy on the second day as much as you hurt yourself. In 1 day turns I only attack once or twice per week against dug in enemy forces. 2 bad shock attacks in a row can really hurt.

Record the total AV of the hex prior to an attack.
Compare it the following turn after resting.
Record the total AV of the hex prior to an attack
Compare it the following day after another attack

There is a signifcant change from just 1 day of rest. Also in 2 day turns if the attack is successfull I think the units will attack again the 2nd day. They only cancell day 2 attacks if day 1 went bad.

You don't see any problem with losing 50k out of 350k in less then a week?

Hi, I'm not sure your attacks would go any faster with 1 day turns. 1 Day of rest reduces disruption by around 15. Your attacks have to be keeping your units above 60 disruption.
If you tried to attack every day (1 day turns) you would not hurt the enemy on the second day as much as you hurt yourself. In 1 day turns I only attack once or twice per week against dug in enemy forces. 2 bad shock attacks in a row can really hurt.

Sometimes I need the rest, other times I could grind down the fortifications faster without it.

You don't see any problem with losing 50k out of 350k in less then a week?

No, as long as the battle is ultimately one. Several fresh divisions are being rotated in with the banged up ones going to the rear. Also you would be surprised how many units can be squeezed out of Manchuria. Very surprised.

Hi, When the side that bombards also takes casulties it is from enemy counter battery fire not friendly fire. I really think that should happen much more often esp in hexes where both sides have alot of guns in place.

I'm not surprised there are excess units in Manchuria I am surprised you can afford the PP to move them out.

All in all you seem to be able to get alot more done with the Japanese then I can. Of course I would be jumping off a bridge if I took your loss in 1942.

Based on loss so far the average Japanese male in 1965 age 20 is going to be about 3 feet tall. (gene pool can only handle so much reduction before the bad seeds become dominant)

You never answered my question from before so I'll see what you think since you've brought it up in a indirect way. It's the assualt value, not the manpower level, that ultimately determines if attacks are sucessful or not, right? Therefore when the screen shows X number of troops fighting Y number of troops, one is not getting the complete story. The Chinese fighting squad could have less value than the Japanese fighting squad. Also they tend to have worse artillery, mortars, and armored vehicles. However none of this shows up on the X vs Y screen. It just shows total number of men, guns, and vehicles.

Doesn't cost any PP to march them out. You could march them to Karachi if you wanted (well, you could try anyway).

Didn't you already know? They don't require PP to move them out. Just tell them to move into China and they go. Also I think I've found another trick but am not sure yet.

I think you can implement this plan better than me. I've made too many tactical mistakes and few strategic ones as well. Despite that I still made a lot progress and had many successes. I was too careless in losing some of my carriers. This caused the blockade of New Zealand to fail. With two more CVs and another CVL, it would have been a lot more difficult for the Allies to reinforce NZ.

Hi, Thats right. But a 50 exp Chinese with 0 fatigue and 0 disruption will beat the tar out a 100 experiance Japanese with 99 fatigue and 99 disruption. Then you need to figure in terrian. (The city hex is one of the hardest hexes to force dug in troops out of)
And on top of everything else you need a good random number for the combat.
With all the numbers as good for you as they can be a shock attack can still produce a 0-1 odd result (and massacure your troops) or the exact same numbers can yield a 6-1 result (and that would force most enemy out of the hex) (They would need a fort level of 4 or more after your engineers reduction was done)
As a result there is no way to calculate exactly what AV will defeat what AV. Leadership, morale and experiance and all that are very important. However fresh troops can still defeat better quality troops that are wore out. Be carefull not to train the enemy units with bad attacks or someday they will "thank you"

The Japanese units don't have nearly anywhere near 99 fatigue and 99 disruption. These numbers are usually in the 30s or 40s. Morale hovers between the 40s and 70s depending on quality of unit. Remember to keep rotating your units, you can give worn out units the chance to rest and refit.

Hi, OK so we need to freeze all the units in manchuria unless PP are paid because people will steal them because they can move even though everyone knows you should not move units out of Manchuria without paying the PP cost. (So the garrison requirements can be kept track of) Not a major thing to do but it's sad that it is required.

I agree, but then gamey things happen all over this game. It is a wonderful game, but there is alot that should not happen. Each of us has to choose how we will play the game despite the choices available to us.

For instance, in another thread, you propose sending a DD with troops in it to recon an island to determine the units on the island, then evacing them with subs before they can be counter-attacked. In my opinion, this is kinda gamey too. It is highly unlikely that a small group landing on a well-defended atoll would learn much more than that there were plenty of forces to kick it's ass - and there would be a high probability that the troops wouldn't be returning from the mission at all. We can argue that this is a commando raid to recon the target, but I doubt even those could give the complete blueprint that you get from the techinique you propose.

No, you are mistaken. The requirement of 8000 assualt is counted by how many units are actually in Manchuria. You can put Chinese units in there to bring the count back up. Go back and check the manual again. If you take units out, the count goes down. PP is not a determinate.

Hi, No your missing the point. In order to leave Manchuria the units should change HQ. That costs PP. Just because they can march out does not mean you should do it. We forgot to put code to prevent units from moving overland out of their HQ area. (Manchuria and China are the only HQ where this is possible. I always thought people talking about Chinese units in Burma were refering to those units assigned to SEAC not China Command. Chinese units should not leave China (even to invade Indo-China) Chinese units assigned to China Command should be restricted to only areas that are (or were pre 1931) China or Manchuria. Chinese units wishing to enter another area should have to change HQ to one allowed to do so and pay PP.
Japanese forces deployed in Korea and Manchuria should not depart without changing HQ (and paying the PP)
The correct (historical) means of getting a unit from Manchuria is to send a lower trained replacement unit and withdraw a trained unit.

No, this is your opinion only (not official) and not a fact of the game. Southern Army units can go anywhere. 4th Fleet, Southeast Fleet, Northern Command too. What the rules say about Manchuria:

"ANY (emphasis mine) unit in the Northwest Control Zone counts toward this requirement. The assault value must be 8000 at all times..

Hi, Southern Army was the HQ that controled all IJA units outside of of China and Manchuria
Japan only had 3 major HQ
Southern Army
Chna Army
And the Army in Manchuria.

Relax this is nothing personal. It's just an oversight. As for it's being Offical I assure you it is the Offical intent. Now they need to make it so it is enforced.
If you follow my posts to this thread or others where persons mention Manchuian units or Chinese units being used outside their areas I always ask about the PP. This should make it clear I did not realize people would transfer units without changing HQ. (and paying PP)
This is my fault for assuming that. Southern area is the HQ for all units outside those restricted areas so there is no (and was no) PP cost to move a unit between Southern Areas own Armies just like there is no PP or HQ change required to move a unit from North China to South China.
When they said that all units inside the area counted they were assuming all units would belong to the proper HQ. It is going to be tough to code so units cannot just march out of a zone. They were left unfrozen so they could move within their areas.

To make it simple.
The intent was that units assigned to restricted HQ pay a PP cost and change HQ in order for them to be allowed to leave the area of their restricted HQ. Only the Chinese and Japanese in Manchuria and Korea can avoid this by marching overland. It was not forseen that players would circumvent this. (It clearly should have been and until today I have never questioned it because I always assumed players realized this. )

Hi, Clearly the intent is to limit units assigned to restricted HQ to those areas defined as belonging to those HQ.

If not every Japanese player who has been attacking in China is crazy.

If you don't care about the restriction and don't want to pay the PP then what you should do is attack the Soviets. First move units out of China proper and then use the Southern Area Army units to attack the coast while a massive assault captures the non port bases (port attacks supported by drives from the mainland units.)

Once the Soviets are knocked off you have a lot of new resource and oil and can now move everything back into China and just drive on all the way to Karachi.

Sorry, not trying to make it personal but people here know that you are a beta tester and moderator. I think it would be a good idea if you made it more clear in post when something is your opinion and when it is a fact. Sometimes I get confused about the stuff you post where you assert opinion like it is a fact. Here I believe you are asserting opinion, not fact.

Exchanging worn out units with those that are doing nothing but training for years seems to make a lot of sense. Why not give tired units a rest while getting some fresh units into combat? The Manchuria commander will can't complain since his section is quiet and his getting basically the same thing back (the 8000 assault point level is there no matter what).

According to the manual the HQs are used to give bonsus in combat as well as several other things. So if you want the bonuses you need to use PP. However I'm not reading anywhere about an intent to restrict units to a certain geographic area no matter what.

In further point, the manual actually doesn't support your opinion on this matter:

"Futhermore, some units need to be reattached to different HQ's as the game moves on. A unit operating under a HQ that is thousands of miles away is not nearly as efficent in its operations as it would be where it attached to an HQ in the same hex (or a nearby one)."

So, according to this we can assume there is no intent to restrict all units to a geographic area. It seems the intent of the different areas is to improve the efficiency of units. Since the manual is pointing to units operating "thousands of miles away" under a different geographic area, I can only assume such transfers are allowed and expected by the designers. Otherwise there would be no mention of this occuring in the manual.
