I'm thinking about cutting out all material that doesn't seem vital to the flow of the game from here on out in the AAR. This will create shorter reports with a lot more focus on the important events occuring. If the longer approach is still considered best, please let me know.

Yeah, Zeta's got a problem because he wasn't able to bomb the island prior to invasion. He probably should have done some repeated advanced bombardments with his BBs - stick a supply TF with AD,AE,AOs in it a ways back, and sent the BBs in rotation to wear things down first.

Speaking of bombing islands, does anyone know if B-29s can bomb Hawaii from the West Coast? Zeta may want to consider that once his B-29s start to show up, since he won't have bases in China to use for bombing Japan.

Zeta - BTW - did you recon Midway ahead of time, or keep quiet to keep it a surprise?

Thanks -

The problem is Midway is a long way from Seattle, where the ships came from. He can't just stick around because of problems with supply and fuel. Anyway, he landed two divisions but they appear to be damaged a bit. He can still take the place though.

Well the game screwed up royally. The 4 divisions I landed are now back in SF, except for the few left to unload. I really will not finish this game unless it is fixed becasue it means my ships were wasted for nothing. So at this point I think the game is going to be over. It's piss poor that this had to happen, but it will cost me a few of my few ap's. They only way this can be fixed is if this bug can be over ridden some how.

Are you saying that you landed 4 divisions on Midway and they "teleported" back to San Fran? Did anything else change or get goofed up? Were the troops in place for more than 1 turn?

Thanks -

I guess they started to land on the first day, then did the schock attack and lost not many troops. On the second day of two day turns, troops keep unloading. However there was no attacks by eiether side on that day. When I went to do my turn, there are no troops at all on Midway, but a few still on the ships. However, in SF there are the four divisions. Kinda pissed me off, after going to a great football game.

Man that's a bummer. I feel for you. Exact same thing happened to me in UV. Killed my game also. I really hoped bugs like these didn't make it into WiTP but I guess they did.

I feel for ya guys! I've had a few long months worth of playing destroyed by endless bugs. Alright if it was still being tested but this game has been out how long?

I'm going to finish the scenario mod we started but I don't think the game is worth playing at the moment. Have serious doubts it ever will be. Sudden wargame death syndrome. Major pissoff.

At least the research and art is still useful.

I reloaded the turn but the same thing happens. This might happen again, hard to know since there have been few test of Allied invasions of Midway.

Dude, Zeta,

This might be in the dumb question category, but have you double checked that save file from before the landings to verify that the units were loaded in their entirety? I've encountered problems with loading where there was room for the whole unit, but only part of it loaded and then a scat-load of supplies loaded. This seemed to happen to me a lot when I would try to load more than one LCU in the same TF. Since then, I only load one unit per TF, then combine them after they are fully loaded.

You guys have put so much effort into this game I figure it's worth the risk to ask a dumb question.

I will look at it. I still have the turn he sent me before it did this, so I will check. If not maybe I can just turn my whole taskforce around and try some thing else.

Thank you very much, I checked this and that was the case. It loaded all of the support troops and no suppplies/ On the taskforce screen it said the taskforces was loaded a lot more than it was when looking at the ships. So I sent a e mail to dude and ask him if I turned those ships around to SF could be start from the turn right before this happened. I feel like a real big dumb ass and feel real sorry this caused any problems for anyone. I feel a lot better and still think there bugs that need fixed, and do not understand why it does not load something when you tell it to. Makes the game a real pain.

Yep I am a dumb ass, Now I will check every taskforce I make. Do not think what you see is the truth with this game. You must recheck every thing every turn or bad things happen.

I check over everything, so when I send in a ship to the combat zone a 0/0 WO isn't leading, so I guess I can check for troops too.

So what you are saying is that you selected 4 divisions plus support to go onto a TF, and only the support loaded, although the TFs looked as if they were full. You ought to retry that particular loading operation - because if the 'puter didn't load what you wanted, then that is as big a problem as your initial theory of teleportation.

I don't trust the computer to load my troops at all. My experience is that loading of multiple LCUs into the same TF always causes problems. And unlike UV, loading supply in addition to troops is now a very risky thing.

Good luck -

Dave

I had 4 divisions a HQ, and a Cd in that taskforce. I load those just on to Ap's no supply and form a supplt taskforce and joined them at sea on the way. The Ap taskforce only loaded the support troops from the divisions and all of the Cd and HQ units.

Do you remember which order you "clicked" on the troops? Did you select the combat units first or the HQ/CD first?

I find it very strange that the support units loaded and not the combat units. I always see support units "left behind" if I don't use enough ships to take everyone.

Also, did you try to load a combat engineering unit? CEs, CDs and HQs tend to be real hogs when it comes to APs.

Thanks again -

David,

I've run into this in my games vs. the AI, and so have some other posters. It is a real pain and certainly is a bug. I have had an AK TF with 150,000 capacity, and tried to load just 2 (TWO) units (one being a division, so I needed the room). The result was 1 unit loaded partially on 1 AK, the other unit spread out over a bizillion AK's, and (what seemed like) 99% of the capacity of the TF loaded supplies. I had many other examples with AP's and all, so I finally just started loading 1 unit per TF. Combining TF's after loading or while only supplies are still being loaded has yet to cause a problem.

I clicked on the troops first then the rest. Then the next turn I looked and it said a number real close to amount of all them put together, so I thought they were all on it. I did load only troops may be this does not work real well. I also used all Ap's. I have noticed that nothing loads the same. One time it could be one way another time it could be another. I am also having problems loading air units on Ak's. It says they are loading but it doesn't load any thing. The next turn I go to load the planes and it says they are loading. So it is real hard for me to set up these invasions, since nothing loads the way it should. It took me two extra weeks to launch the aborted invasion. It seems nothing ever loads in a normal way and makes it real hard on a player. So the next invasioon I do, it will probably take a month to make sure everything is load the right way.

I have a few rules of thumb that I use in loading ships.

First off, I never load supplies along with troops - it used to work well in UV, but it doesn't work in WitP - things always get goofed up and troops get left behind.

Second, and equally important, I always give myself a minimum 30% extra space beyond the largest load number frequired for a given unit for whatever type of ship I am using. Notice that you see different requirements between the "list troops" command from the base screen and the value that you see when you click on the actual land unit. I've found that if I try to load an 1800 load LCU onto a 2000 capacity AP it will take forever and will leave some troops (usually support) behind.

Third, I try to use multiple ships for one LCU. So, for example, if I have an LCU with a load requirement of 2600 on an AP, I'll preferentially use two 2000 APs instead of one 4000 AP. They will also load faster.

Fourth, when loading big units, I use AKs instead of APs. For some reason if I want to load a 26,000 load division, it goes at least twice as fast if I use five 7000 capacity AKs instead of six 6000 capacity APs. Sure, there is one more ship, but it means that I can load in one or two days instead of a week. (Now, how are all those troops being dumped into some old freighter? Maybe via shute into the cargo holds? <L>)

All of the above help with unloading too.

As far as aircraft on AKs go - I just pick a large AK, pick and air group to go into it, and ignore it. It sometimes leaves the next day, sometimes the day after. It seems random to me.
