I am more of a Cold-War sub fan. BTW, I did pick up Sub-Command recently, (ya a bit old now). Wondering what your input in it is?

Well I see a huge hole in the gender that this title will fill. I was never a big fan of the frist two titles, played them for a time and pulled them off my HD. My fear is the title will rely on graphic's as a selling tool and only then try to address the game play issues the first titles were plagued with.

Let´s hope it´s good. Since "Aces of the Deep" I didn´t play anything sub related anymore.

Played "Silent Service" for ages.

I wore out my old C64 playing Red Storm Rising years ago. God I loved that game.

But those graphics sure do look nice.

Ive never played a sub sim

Always thought that there would be ages of playing before anything happened.

I could imagine it should be very intense like in real life. Does this come across well in this kind of sim?

It seems the East German team doctors have been experimenting on the crew with anabolic steroids again. I hope they dont take the whole crew off-line if somebody fails the drug screen

I too am looking forward to this title. I still play Silent Hunter 2 quite a bit..even with its flaws it is a very enjoyable game for me...Especially with the sound mods from Das Boot.

Wow. Amazing graphics. Yes, I played Red Storm Rising on the old C64, too, and am a big fan of SHII, despite its quirks. The modding community has worked wonders on it, though, and my version now little resembles the out-of-the-box game.

I post on the Subsim forums once in a while. Over there, I'm known as Thomsen.

Mark, you sound like my Kind of Sub commander, I loved my boat rocking gently as I.. early war, attempted a night surface attack against a hopefully unsuspecting convoy. Aces.. and played ss1 extensively..
Would love to see great realism and graphics come together as much in the last decade ahas not been there for me anyway....
would be cool if these folks allowed head too head against a convoy commander

Never could get into either 688 or Sub Command, and Dangerous Waters only appeals to me for the O.H Perry frigate and P3 Orion so I can HUNT subs. :)

Played the original Silent Hunter to death but SH2 left me cold. Hopefully this one will be a hit. I do have to admit, that's the prettiest explosion I've ever seen in ANY sim.

Go to www.subsim.com and head to the forums. There's a Sub Command section where people are always happy to help. It's got one helluva learning curve, but they'll help you through. Plus there are many links to good SC how-to guides, mods, scenarios and such.

Ive played Silenthunter 1. Great game, and you really got that feeling when a destroyer was on top of you dropping explosives. The open ended gameplay was also good, where you got a patrol area rather then missions like in SH2.

Sub Command and 688i were good but i think the missions where to predictable. When you played through them all that was it. But i never did get into the mission editor so that might be it.

But SH3 will properly be canceled if i know Ubisoft right. They canceled Harpoon4

I played,{SUNK}TONS of SHII and am the only person that completed all the missions! heard lots of folks had greef and wonder if the requirments of system are out for SHIII?

Well I hated the linked missions in SS@, will probably be a make or break, either they put in a dynamic campeign or I will skip it, too much else out there that looks exceptional!

Am I the only one that still plays Silent Hunter: Commanders Edition? Never get tired of it. I love the TDC, after you get the hang of manual there is no going back to auto.

My hope for SHIII is that the TDC works. The one in SH2 was clumsy, and I don't think I ever hit anything with it. The SH1 TDC, I'd get 4 out of 6 fish in a spread on a target (that is, if I wasn't still cruising around in my S boat with 4 tubes).

I still play Command Aces of the Deep, though not as much as SH1. I had to stop playing SH2/DC when the Nvidia drivers (ironically, the ones you have to have to play WitP well) ruined them.

OOH, Almost for got about the GNB series. I still play 2-4. Finally got em working in WinXP.

Call me a freak but I liked to watch Das Boot (the directors cut) while I was playing SH2

I live about a block off the water so when I open the windows in the house I can smell the salt coming from the salt water....Imagine that.I also used play SH2 in real time....yup...only sometimes would I crank up the speed.I would dive deep and run on batteries and fall asleep watching Das Boot and lisyening to the sub creek and moan from the pressure....yea I admit it ....Im a strange dude...

I don't think thats too awkward, but then again everytime I play SH1 (to this day) I usually watch Destination Tokyo, Crash Dive, Run Silent Run Deep, or Operation Petticoat.

It looks great. My only complaint about these games is the lack of a non-linear campaign system.

Back in the mid-eighties I had a game on my old Commodore 128 called Epyx Sub Battle Simulator. It included full campaigns for both a German U-Boat in the ETO (1939-45) and an American submarine in the PTO (1941-45). There were game generated missions, mind you, but the campaigns were completely non-linear. You could go anywhere in the theater of operations you wanted to engage the enemy.

I haven't seen this feature in any of the other games in this genre susequently published. Maybe there were some, but I din't see them.

FYI, Aces of the Deep, its Windows remake Command Aces of the Deep, and Silent Hunter 1 all had dynamic campaign games. You would be assigned a patrol zone (based on the period of war), and you could patrol it at your leisure. IT was all random, and if you went into a harbor it would randomly put ships in it, some docked, some patroling, some coming in, and some leaving. Very immersive. AOD did the same thing, and Ubi says so will SH3 now.

I loved both Silent Service and Red Storm Rising. I have tried to get into Silent Hunter II but I just can't get into it.

I loved all the missions in Red Storm Rising. Nothing like launching a Harpoon at a Soviet Missile Cruiser and then surfacing to take out its helicopters with some mast launched SAM's. What a game.
