Look here

Maximum Football Announcement

The thread is "Deal Done".

BTW Matrix did no sports titel. They are "only" the distributor.

They've got to pay the bills somehow no? And sports fans are use to paying a fortune just to "watch" a single sports game... So it's probably a more profitable crowd than the average penny-pinching wargamer.

Besides, it's guaranteed to attract another entirely new group here and who knows maybe some will try a Sci-Fi game or two, then maybe a Wargame.

But, in all fairness, shouldn't the general forum now accept posts on sports topic and sci-fi topics? Isn't it discriminatory not too? Or, in other words, a way of saying the wargamers and military historians among us belong here more than the others?

I took a look at the forums and you would be surprised. There is a statment that the going price of Matrix games has caused some concerns. Followed up with the statment From David Winter they would charge around $30.00, and he would never charge $79.00 for any game.

Hi Guys

Let me clear up something... we are not going to charge $80.00 for every game we do. War in the Pacific is a game beyond what is normally done. Matrix does NOT set the price on any title itself. It is a joint effort by us and the developer.

Now as for the Football game goes... yes it true... why we had a blast playing it. Everything is MODable and it allows you to do a lot with it. We will be releasing a press release shortly.

David

The cool thing about Maximum Football is that it is flexible enough to cover all styles and rules - NFL, Canadian, even Arena-style leagues are doable.

It combines the 3D graphics style of popular console football games with the team managament and running a "dynasty" year to year of popular stat based games. The play designer is VERY well done.

To me Football IS a WARGAME ;)

I was under the impression from designer David Winter that there would be no career option at release of the game. Has that changed?

I may have missunderstood that aspect being a part of the game and people intending to use the game as part of web-based leagues that do the the year to year stuff 'outside' the game using add-ins to manipulate the player database.

I will get some clarification.

Life without football is not life.

Now, THIS is a maximum cool idea. Many years ago I played a board wargame that represented football, and like others, I agree that American-style football lends itself to this.

No official release date yet.

There is no integrated "career" option - "progression" from season to seaon is something that has to be done offline - for now.

Sorry for the confusion on that.

I'm pretty sure matrix and wintervalley could get a license for the canadian football league for next to nothing.. there are no games based on the CFL yet (of course with only 8 teams). And how about add a couple of canadian teams in there, Quebec and Halifax at least.

Actually, the CFL has nine teams with a 10th on the way. There is(was) a CFL licensed game (I developed it). And no, it wouldn't be next to nothing. The 'value' of the Canadian Football League has risen tremondously in the past 5 or so years making CFL licenses not cheap.

The game you are thinking of was probably "Scrimmage" from SPI and it was one of their S&T Magazine games. A "game" was basically 4 downs to see if you could make 10 yards. Interesting concept, but it was never really popular and quickly dropped from sight.

It was a bit interesting to see an offensive tackle counter that functioned pretty much like an Armored unit with similar "combat" (physical and skill factors) on it. You basically had "combat" as two players (counters) got into each other's zone of control. If nothing else, it made you realize that Football is a wargame.
