The war continues, much to plan
A big effort expended today at Imperial HQ as we organise large convoys of fuel and supplies for Davao, ready for the next phase

A scare as MUTSU is attacked by a sub off Siagon
The Truk raid launched, a big raid on rabual, 11 wirriways defended and were easily brushed aside.
We truly hope this shook him up
2 divisions are at the gates of rangoon, they will attack soon
In Malaya, Kuala LUmpar will soon be attacked, 3 divisions vs 4 brigades

Heads will roll over the east coast debacle, 3 tank regiments, and many other units still blundering through the forest, 28 miles still to go, the war will be over before I see them again

We intend to pound Kuching again.
balakpapan deliberate attacked, forts fell to 1, will fall very soon

The war continues to plan

the grand plan is forming shape, forces for the occupation of the solomons are being detailed of, 21st division will be the lead division, but the 18th will also be employed, now that balikapapan is ours
Mutsu is missed by a sub

Our airforce, 107 sallies pound bataan. we will not hurry here
79 betties hit rabual from truk, just to tell him our airpower is stretching its reach
balikpapan forts are down to 1
At Kuala Lumpar we have 3 divisions to 4 brigades. Tomorrow we attack

Bataan recieves a port attack
Bombers are staying high, not mush damage is inflicted, but he burns supply he cant replace now
balikpapan falls
Rangoon falls
Kuala lumpar falls

We get drunk at HQ

several day of action this posting
We are still marching down the malaya peninsula, malacca is now being stormed. Its capture cuts of quiet a few troops to the North
We are shuffling a heap od planes about, getting set for the next phase.
There is NO intention to advance fast or far in Burma, or INdia even< we will keep it a ghost front, th e troops will be used elsewhere.
the southern java invasion sails
KB is headed toward LEA, We intend to announce her precence, and thus stop reinforcement of PM and The solomons until we can get forces there.
Mini KB sails, SHoHO reinfoces her, and all ships are zero equiped now.
The great south Java thrust is aimed for a port on the WEST coast of Java, I too believe that soerabaya will be very , very nasty, given the lack of resistance so far. We must break his airforce 1st.

Brother Bando survives another mission.

The big news of the day is the entire army lost in the hills finally will reaoppear tomorrow. We creep North in Burma, mainly for show
21st division departs brunie for truk
Imperial division reports australian troops to the front, but they are not fighting
And China is as quiet as the grave, we give it no piority for anything at this stage.

16/1/42

7 allied brigads at Johore Bharu, vs the imperial division, but the front is quiet
a sub is sighted of Japan
Light bombing all fronts
We begin to convert many squadrons to zeros

2ns yamada sq transfers to balikapapan, Brother in law kawamura will soon see plenty of action

Wake island is a puzzle, do we commit there, or wait
A snlf is going to detach for basically a reco.
Soth Java invasion fleet leaves Davao
4 divisions. 6 BBs, mini KB, about 5 sqs of zeros, 5 of naval bombers.
nearly 40 escort ships. they aim to cut through the straight at bali, turn north and hit java from the rear. 1st we must cull his airpower.
it will be costly.

We continue to pound bataan, 175 sallies, 20 helen today
38th division attacks samarida, and accounts for most dutch units in borneo.
I miss identified this division as the 18th. It will now be the division slated for darwin.
The South Sea detachment will take Timor, the 21st rabual.
All 3 units then will take Port Moresby
our troops are gathering for the final assualts in Malaya
The southern front sails into macasssar straight.
Tomorrow the storm breaks

You could walk on the enemy subs in macassar straight, we sink 1 attacking mini KB
Big fighter sweeps over soerabaya, we lose 10 a/c, he loses about 25 to 30
Kawamara gets his 1st kill!!!
We consider the 1st day a success. Rotation of squadrons are ordered, and Mutsu and Nagato are ordered to hit Bali. They will have cap from Mini KB, now racing ahead down the straight. Hopefully some LBA will be tempted to strike at them, and fall to the cap

Disaster!!!

Mutsu and nagato hit bali as planned, but then run north!!!
Why
seeking enemy ships perhaps
Or cocked up orders?
Mutsu wears 2 tropedoes under intense air attack
If it flies, it must be at soerabaya!
Worse, dozens of naval boobers ( not a spelling mistake )attack unescorted, and are smashed. it will be months to fix this blunder, the impact of it can not be overemphasised.

Disaster!

And today, finally caught up
Big fighter sweeps again today, lost 4 a/c, killed quite a few
Mutsu sinks an AK
b17s hit balikpapan

And Mutsu is sunk by more LBA
Incompetence.
Mini KB acts like a honey pot, attracting wave after wave of bombers, and shoots down the lot

IN malaya only singapore remains, and we are gathering the troops

Im sure though the allies will be smiling, 2 BBs gone already, and for nothing
The invasion fleet rolls onwards.
Soerabaya is full of CAs, when will they be released?. Now the impact on my navy bombers comes into play, the reduced squadrons will have to do, no supplies fwd to allow refills yet!

Subs, subs and more subs in Macassar straight.
we sink one trying to get at the transports, but one AP is sunk, hate to find out what critical troops were on it.
We sent 91 zeros in a sweep over soerabaya, and got no reaction.
We will have to rotate the navy bombers, send them to the phillipines to re train bombing bataan, and bring in the Betties from truk
An amazing amount of shipping, CAs galore are hanging about soerabaya, the entire invasion fleet forms one task force ready to force the sunda straight
High command is very, very nervous about the next few days .
At Carke another phillipine division comes and has a look, we will smash it like the last
Cant imagine what that is about

1st paras take adaman island
In malaya we will rest the troops several days before beginning the final assualt.

High command wants the dutch east indies secured by the end of Febuary
Today units were allocated for phase 3, the solomons and darwin
Lae is scheduled for invasion this week, rabual in several days time.

The cost has been higher than wanted, but it must be paid.

A very busy day.
All the Nell squadrons involved in this weeks fiasco are sent to aprii, and ordered to upgrade to betties. They will be retrained pounding the bataan peninsula, we intend to pound this place for months.
Some sallies, 2 previously unused nell sqs and a helen sqs are rotated into balikpapan and tarakan
The invasion fleet marks time, awaits nagato to rejoin, and remains on high CAP, hoping to further blunt his LBA before forcing the lombok straight
Some enemy shipping is spotted at bali
I hope he is confused.
At clarke a Phillipine division trys to attack, it is so disrupted after a massive airstrike today, its assualt value was 0
We are nearly ready to attack Singapore
Again our family is about to be fully engaged
Brother Bando remains with KB of Gilli Gilli
Brother in law Kawamura is heavily engaged with his zero daitai at balikapan
Private bando will be in the singapore assualt
brother zui is at sea with the south sea detachment, headed for our next objective
and brother in law Kiza is with the Kako, approaching rabual with the 21st division
I somehow wonder if the family has any chance of surviving this war unscathed.

Problems
The decimation of the Nell SQs is really biting
Sallies from Balikapapn cant reach soerabaya, and it must be closed
So, a division sailing from there for the southerm invasion (darwin) is ordered to the next port down the coast (forget name) on the bottom corner of borneo. It has a size 3 field, engineers are coming as well.
The main invasion fleet had crept south, just out of range of allied air, now under full mini KB cap it is ordered north, past bali, and to the west coast of south Java
Balikapan will launch 2 sqs of Nells with big escort to soerabaya.
The sallies have to stay on naval attack

Its coming to a climax in this area
South sea detachment heads towards Timor
21st division is 3 days, maybe 4 out from rabual.
A small snlf is busy taking Lae today, and Lunga is secure
KB continuesd to lurk south of Gilli gilli
In malaya, Im awaiting the final troops beforebeginning the final assualt on Singapore
3 new zero sqs in Japan are filling out, they will go to Burma, and redress the naughty stuff Tabpub is up to there.
In Burma, Pagan is taken easily, the allies are still retreating.

The war is moving to a climax
In Burma we are resting our troops, in the air oscars make a sweep to announce our airforce has entered the fray .
In Malaya our army awaits the heavy artillery before attacking
Its southern java that we hold our breath, a bold move is happening.
The target is the beaches to the North of Malang, on the west coast of java.
Last night the invasion fleet forced the sunda straight, and turned north.
the enemy resists bitterly
Catalinas launch a night strike, and hit the Shoho, with a dud.
We get enemy ship reports everywhere, at least 4 CA surface groups are waiting to strike, and BC repulse has been sighted.
The day began with a 74 nell raid on Malang, we hope the enmy will guess this is the target of the invasion, not one hex North, and try to intercept, and be exposed to naval air.
Big air raids struck, but a Cap of 86 zeros tore the enemy apart, at least 40 enemy planes fell today, 2 APs were hit, they will retire..
The division headed for Banjamasin remained hidden by a storm, it arrives tomorrow.
he now has 2 invasions to counter
Brother in Law Kawamura is heavily involved in these battles, I hold my breath for him.

At rabual 21 division is attacked by hudsons, CA Kako, (brother in law Kiza) is especially targeted, but escapes. The division arrives tomorrow, betties pounded today, naval bombardment tonight.

Sansapor fell today, Lea is secure, Lunga is secure
South sea detachment will invade Timor in 2 days time.
the pace is fast and furiuos now.
Much depends on how his interceptions go tonight, we have 5 BBs escorting the invasion fleets, but reports are indicating that they are seperating somewhat under the strain of air, and sub attack.
Mini KB kates are ordered from stand down status to attack for tomorrow, the invasion is right at the limit of Balikpapan air range, if Mini KB zeros fail tomorrow, it could be a disaster.

In the phillipines air groups were rested, tomorrow the growing in strength bettie sqs will begin live ammunition training on bataan

A final puzzle. Analysis of our losses today showed 5 jakes lost air to air, from where or how remains a mystery.

The reports begin to flow in, all eyes are on the Java invasion
Shoho is hit by a night Catalina strike!!!. But, it is a dud.
A capability we knew nothing about
Mine fields discovered at tarakan
And we recieve multiple reports of enemy shipping North of the invasion, will our Naval bombers be able to intercept.
The day reports flow thick and fast
We pound Malang
We hit Rabual
And the dutch airforce, British airforce, every airforce! attacks the invasion fleet
86 Zeros on CAPnock down dozens of enemy bombers.
B17s, T1va's, martins, beaforts, hudsons all attack
1 AP is hit GOOD!, losses are light
the Banjamisan? invasion hides under a storm

Final tally today, 3 zeros lost, for 21 bombers, 31 fighters shot down
We do lose nearly a dozen float planes today

The invasion fleet forces the Sunda straight.

D Day
The war reaches a climax today, the great gamble.
It is apparent that the enemy has concentrated all his forces at Palembang, now we know why we have seen so little of him until now.

We naval Bomb Rabual, and 21 Dic begins to unload there, some enemy air is ineffectual
SSD approaches southern Timor
WE enter Singapore in strength

dawn, and sighting reports continue to pour in
61 sallies bomb Singawang
7 B17s bomb balikapapan, and seriously, very seriously disrupt our operations there, many damaged planes
Again the dutch throw themselves at the invasion, our CAP again chews them up.
The ZERO is proving to be wonderful
2 APs are hit though
We have a report that POW has been hit by a Nell Torpedo at Batavia.
I discount it
No way will they risk her under our Navy air, with CVL Kates in theatre.
We strike Soerabaya, heavy CAP, CL Java is torpedoed, CA Houston is missed.

In the Afternoon a worrying report, 75% of search float planes lost to enemy air
Mini KB is unable to launch due to a squall.
And the invasion wears the cost, several more APs are hit, the cost is mounting.

Our Nell squadrons fly unescorted, and again suffer heavily on pointless attacks
We lost 35 planes to his 50 today

Admiral Herbiesan considers his airpower now broken
But ours is also very badly bent
Every zero squadron we have is sent to balikpapan, some will take several days to arrive
The troops will unload tomorrow

The entire plan is this
land on undefended beaches west of soerabaya
Then we are in the middle of 3 cities, which will we choose?
The map shows clear ground, he cant reinforce all 3, and wont know which one I will choose until I arrive
troops will have minimal disruption, no mines, and (in other games) on this map feature troops move 5 miles a day
That is the plan
The night begins badly
CVL Ryujo is hit by catalinas, and she suffers a magazine explosion.
reports are bad for her
At rabual the unloading continues, and at Timor SSD hits the beaches
3 invasions in one day

In Burma a very big air raid by B17s(35 in No) worry me badly
Our Kates on Mini KB are released to attack, and damage 2 dutch CLs, De ryter, tromp.
In Singapore the Allies shock attack, and are badly hurt, 2000 dead.
Our family leads a charmed life, all engaged today, all survive
the troops establish the beach head south Java
We are well pleased.

I never imagined the violence that 1 day can produce.
Does the enemy ever quit
He attacks, and attacks, and it is hurting

The Battleships Prince of Wales and repulse have attacked our Carriers!
None were hit, 2 of our DDs were sunk defending them. The enemy fortunately did not press the attack, but The CVLs did not operate today, seeking cover in a rain storm.
Again lack of CAP allows the dutch to hit APs, nearly 10 ships are burning now.
Our planes managed to torpedoe the houston

At rabual a shock attack by 21 division miscarries!!!
Huge losses.
Is Rabual a fortress? Are the Aussies supermen?
In Singapore our 1st attack goes nowhere, and why are 100000 men going no where at malacca?
We order mini KB out, surely he is brocken now
The BB fleet will cover anything else

Our fighters are very tired, and all bomber SQs are depleted.
Operating just a fraction too far.

The worse news for last
The Maps lie
Troops report the clear ground is full of scrub, and rice paddies and who knows what, 2 miles progress in 1 day, for some 1 mile a day.
This is a disaster!

CVL Ryujo is torpedoed by a submarine, she burns and burns
POW and repulse return!!!!!
BB Haranua 4CA,2 cl and 7dd intercept POW, Repulse and 1CL, 5dd

reports are clouded, but Haranua is reported crippled
And the Takao is reported sunk
all our fears about force Z are coming true
A CL, Kuma is reported sunk by enemy bombers, those Cats strike AGAIN

Only the capture of banjamasin? helps ease the pain

POW is reported not damaged.

For the record, we thought the plan had merit
we were wrong.
Never operate at the edge of air cover.
Always have the naval attack bombers able to attack.

battleship POW, that dreaded Force Z, attacks the invasion fleet herself
She encounters the 4 old BBs, the classic battle line engagement
range 10000 yrds
CL Mauratas explodes immediately
Fuso is hit by several 14", and slows badly

The enemy charged in, at just 2000 yrds it all happened quickly
fuso hit POW once
Fuso wears 4 14" shells, she bursts into flames
POW is hit by 3 more 14 inch shells
A broadside slams into FUSO, 6 14" shells, then 2 torpedoes, she plunges to the bottom
All, all the escorts are sunk, or crawl away crippled
The 3 remaining BBs also burn, they must retire

OUR BB fleet is finished
Finished
SSD is hit by liberator bombers from Darwin
And the entire phillipine army has returned to Clarke, and is attacking!!!

The invasion is now stranded
In 3 days of fighting we have no escorts left to protect the 2 divisions still struggling ashore, and the troops are marooned in what appears on the map to be claer land, but patently isnt.

Despair fill Imperial HQ

Ive sent a surrender note to Tabpub
we could continue, but I want write this one of to experience.

Too far, too fast

And too good a defence
His air still controls the area, MINI KB just couldnt support for long enough.

But the loss of 3 BBs so quickly, with 4 more badly damaged, or out of the fight for weeks, with his entire BB fleet untouched is just too scary

So we will begin again soon, Pearl harbour route this time, and nothing quite as rash as that!

Well done opponent, you suckered me into the honey pot!

Here are the terms of the armistice:

1. Return of all troops to national borders
2. French Indo China to be governance by the Americans until the restoration
of the French Government in Paris
3. Damage reparations in the sum of 100 million dollars, to be divided
amongst the victims of the Japanese attack.
4. Cease fire in place in China; future conference to be held to rectify the
China situation (put this in to keep Chiang happy)

One might note the leniency of these terms; this is mainly due to the low losses for the American forces during the war. The brunt of the losses were to the Dutch and British contingents. I would have to say that 90 percent of the American forces in the Pacific never even saw a Japanese ship, plane or soldier.

As to suckering you into the honeypot....well, that can only happen if Winnie the Pooh is too hungry, eh?......
On the other hand, if several things had not gone my way....the shoe would have been on the other foot, for sure. I look forward to your new assault on the democracies and hope to entertain all in the future with our "antics"...
