In game as japan against AI i have doubled shipyard capacity in tokyo
In Industry/resource chart i have a figure, then in brackets beside it a very large figure. How do you tell if you are under utilising shipyard capacity? or over straining it?

Any help appreciated thanks

Well you will always be over straining your shipyard capacity as japan.. its just unavoidable... But, to answer your question, go to the Intel screen (I) and click on the button at the bottom that shows your replacement squads and such. At the bottom of that screen it will list Civilian and Naval Shipyard Points - IF you have extra. If you have extra shipyard points and the number is constantly increasing then you have too many Naval Shipyards making ship points. If there is rarely ever a listing for the extra points then you don't have enough...

I usually expand the smaller Shipyards but don't mess with the big ones due to the way they consume HI.. If you have a size 100 Shipyad and enough HI to only run 99, then none of the Shipyards produce points. So smaller shipyards are better than 1 large one.

I saw it happen in version 1.2 off of Singapore. Those swordfish and vildebeest can be nasty if there is no air cover. We restarted after 1.3 and I have noticed my opponent pays a lot more attention to having air support for fleet operations now.

Watch your ship availability, when things stop counting down, you've overused your capacity.

Perfect example of this is people converting a bunch of ships on turn 1. Japan doesn't have enough merch build capacity for too many conversions.

(ie: rule #1: Convert some MLE's on turn #1 of any game!)

Japan needs a LOT of conversions. All those AKs and APs can be stopped.

The numbers in brackets on the production screen are the pools. If the pool is growing you are not using your shipbuilding capacity. If it is very low at all times, then capacity is not enough.

I check my pools every turn and kind of yo-yo the ship production. When the pool drops below 150 or so, I take a couple of ship out of acceleration and put them back on when the pool gets over 400 or so.
