In fairness, I think most wargames are STILL made that way. They have no chance of generating the profits of games in some other genres, so if the devs don't care, they don't get done.

Developers just had to move outside the mainstream to publishers like Matrix, Battlefront and Shrapnel to do it.... and all those (HPS too) have their fair share of customer loyalty. R:TW and (perhaps to a slightly lesser extent) HoI 2 are "popular" games aimed at the same general market as most EA, Activision or Ubi releases.

The issue raised here is not about whether RWT is or is not the best strategy game yet (and, but for the bugs, it's pretty close...) but about the way in which a less-than-ready game was released to the market. I strongly suspect that timing had more to do with revenue generation than anything else - after all, CA and Activision are in this game primarily to make money - but as a die-hard TW fan since the original STW I do feel that they have damaged the brand image.

I've said before in this forum that I rushed out to buy every previous release / expansion pack as soon as it was released, as TW was a 'Must Have' buy. Sadly, no more. Does this mean I'm giving up playing? No, I'm not. I just won't rush out to buy any future releases. I'll do what so many others do - wait a while for the 'new' game to become 'old hat' - and therefore cheaper. You can only mess your custoemrs around so much before it starts to hurt your bottom line (i.e. profit).

Incidentally, I used to work for a (very) large software company that wrote business software / solutions for the corporate market. 'Bug Free' software is almost impossible to write (if only because of human error) but if the company released overly 'buggy' software, then not only did word quickly get around so that sales were lower than expected, but also the company was liable to get sued by angy customers who DID buy for selling them a 'lemon'.....

I'm tellin yah this trend is growing in the consumer public and I'm proud to have been the founder of it!! ;)

Whadoyah mean I'm not the founder?? lol
