....Who's ever seen the AI come up with an unusually sneaky move?

I've just relayed this little incident on another thread:-

quote:

I have been playing vs the AI for years and I KNOW that he picks air units...and LOTS of them sometimes. It's got to the point now whereby I will turn off Air Support for the AI rather than rely on XXX setting. At the moment if I am playing rather than 'building' I will be playing either US or GER after June '44. BIG MISTAKE to play as Ger unless you turn off air units for AI. I recently had what I thought was a nice tight combat unit comprising 4 Tiger 1's, 6 Panther G's dug in with about 400 support troops (SS & Spec Ops). They were awaiting a US Assault by a far superior points force (ratio was about 5:1). The idea was to see if I could lure the opposition to steam into the VH's unopposed...not know what to do next and then unleash hell!.....

...Well... that's not exactly what happened...even though I knew the AI would buy planes I had eight Flak quads spread out with mg cover that I thought would at least put a dent in anything that came hunting for my ambush...

Opening round about 16 planes come in and strafe the VH's which then allowed some of them to pick out my positions. I was then subjected to wave after wave of air attack while the lead elements came in and took the VH's. By the time anything of note turned up...engineers, halftracks, M4A4's whatever....I had virtually nothing left.

Anyone else?

Cheers!

Well, now I'm buried in a long campaign...we'll just have to wait and see if it happens in the campaign!

...Hopefully not

Cheers!

I've played probably 4 long campaigns against the AI, mostly as the Italians. They're okay if I'm up for a no-brainer fight. I almost invariably do an end run since the AI tends to set up in the middle and then I attack from the rear. However, that gets old after awhile.

The one time the AI tore me up was due to scenario circumstances. Rather than the usual advance/advance I get what seems like 99% of the time, I got a river crossing. Not knowing what to do in a river crossing since I'd never had one before, I tried to shove my guys across the river using their little boats (somehow I'd figured out that infantry get boats on river crossings). After I got about halfway across, the AI opened up with all kinds of firepower and sunk most of my little boats and the infantry squads riding in them. I took a shellacking in that one.

January 1942, Soviet delay. I had all sorts of AT assets (from 45mm to 76.2mm) set up to cross-fire advancing German armour and I had their range wound in so they wouldn't fire too soon and be subjected to heavy counter-fire.

Turn 3, all hell breaks loose and I knock out many tanks and half-tracks, causing crews and infantry to bail. To follow up, I hit them with a large Katyusha barrage which sorted out the infantry.

Turn 4, two Stukas and two Me-110s turn up and panel two of my flanking AT 'redoubts', having survived fires from eight 37mm and four 85mm AA guns. This gap was then exploited by the AI's remaining armour. It could be purely coincidental that the AI had armoured assets in that area, but either way it made me pay attention!

FNG,

Actually, I think the AI is luring us all into a false sense of security....occasionally letting it's capabilities slip out, like against you and me.

It is actually saving itself for a massive assault on all our PC's....world domination will come from the AI....Mark my words...it's a conspiracy.... A CONSPIRACY I TELL YOU!

Cheers!

The other nite I saw a squad that we had under heavt attack get on a phone. Soon there was 3 tanks and two other squads show up and chase us away. I even called my wife over to see this and to help confirm it. Of course by the time she got over to where she could see it was over.

Dam way too much time in front of this game. I need a vacation a realy long one me thinks.

What's really happening is that the AI is sucking brain cells out of us when we play, and then launches them into cyberoblivion--the AI isn't getting smarter, we ...is...gettin...dummer. I lerned a song, can I sing it for you? It's called...."Daisy"...
