HONG KONG
2 divisions approach 38, 104th and supporting units

HOUSEKEEPING
1st routine convoy to TRUK, GILBERTS ordered

COMMAND SUMMARY
A surprisingly good result for the attack on pearl. Replacing Nagumo (who had no faith
in operation) with Yamaguchi has seen a more aggressive attack I feel.
Invasions begin
No sign of force z, this force really worries me, thus the decision to use KB to cover
the DEI invasions (I have no faith in our BBS until Yammato comes along)
other matters
Ordered Some AK converted to MLE(3),AR(3) and 2 AS
Stopped nate production
prepositioning of tankers and AKs to CAMRAH BAY, Palau, OSAKA seems to have
gone well
Dispatching some oil North
Ordered very moderate expansion of some industry, we need a better mix of A/C
engines, will monitor for a while
In China I ordered all AVe Regiments to the coast for deployment at a later date to
South west pacific
All forces were given a PP target
Final spending of PPs was on new commanders at crucial places
SHIMANO is cancelled
JUNYO, HIYO, SHOHO are accelerated
ALL SUB construction is halted

Now for the enemies reaction, what will ADMIRAL TABPUB do now?

Sounds like a more balanced and doable plan Herb

My only hesitation would be the point were you state that the US carriers shall be hunted down.
In my honest opinion, this is barely doable in UV. At least the Allies doesn't get more cv's than what you can manage to sink if you're both skilled
and lucky...

In WitP it's altogether an other issue: The US cv's will be replaced, and by 43 they'll dominate the seas no matter how many
you sink in 42.

An encounter with US cv's could mean the loss of both skilled aircrews and irreplacable ships. You NEED these ships to provide cover
for all of your operations during 1942. If they're sunk or damaged, the lack of cv support would most likely put you on the defensive.

Don't get me wrong! If the US cv's tries to intervene with your plans, then you have to engage them. Otherwise, let em hide.
Imagine that you don't have any operational cv's in late 1943 - a powerful enemy carrier tf could easily move into the Sea of China and wreck
havoc on your transports there.

A powerful KB is a must - it will prevent an aggressive Allied player from 'trespassing'

I usually cancel the cv Shinano, scheduled for late 44 and accelerates production of key Jap cv's like the Taiho.
In the game against Al it is now slated to arrive in august 43, and if I'm lucky I'll have it by mid 43.

Just a few thoughts! Good luck with your game, looking forward to following it.

Its very hard to decide the form of an AAR
Think it best I just be myself
I will issue a OPERATIONAL ORDER at the end of each Phase, see if I can stick to the plan
I really am doing this for my own benefit, really find an AAR helps planning, and the keeping track of objectives
So, back to the war...

BURMA
Steadily advancing to bangkok, Im going to wait for the 33rd division
Imperial guard moves onwards
1 Nate sq moved up to bangkok
This theatre scares me the most, allied air can crush me here. ( We are playing no night attacks until 44) so it might go OK
I intend to go as far as the railway tracks reach, and that is it
I will just bomb Mandalaby

MALAYA
Lots and lots of air attacks , the nate and oscar sq moved to Songkhila did well, no hits on any ships
Troops unloading at Song. and Khota Bharu
Ordered more oscars over to Malaya, and Vietnam air to hit ground troops at KB again
2 BBs will Naval bomb KB tonight, if force Z is going to turn up it will be now.

BORNEO
Lots of task forces at sea with troops for Kuching, Miri, Brunie
(also lots didnt load, normal pain in the but)
They will wait for some air cover and the malaya covering ships before advancing

PHILLIPINES
Not much air resistance (wobbly used the p26s to devastating effect here) which helps
Some B17s attacked
The landings at Aparri continue, will attack tomorrow

DAVAO, CAGAYAN, JOLO
Theses forces are loading, the main effort will be 21 division, it must be released for Rabual quickly, along with 4th ENG regiment
The other forces are still loading for this operation

NAGA
The 4 divisions slated for here are still loading at Kagoshima, 2 BBs are slated for escort
I have ordered them to sail without the carriers to cover, Apirri should be online to provide LRCAP. The CVLs are still converting the Claudes to zeros
Still thinking about this

WAKE
The 4 old BBs and South sea detachment sail towards Wake, not too fast, they must await KB, I am aware his CVs could reach me if he wants to

CENTRAL PACIFIC
captured Guam (no surprise there)

GILBERTS
Im hiding, awaiting the fast raid, no plans until CVs are on scene(whats the rush?)

RABUAL AND POINTS SOUTH
Assigned units targets, again need the CVs
I need the CVs to announce there presence, and cut TAPBUP of from rushing troops and planes to PM
For me PM, LUNGA and GG are vital, and the only way I can grab them is for him not to fill em too early. Thus KB2 (now to be 4cv,1cvl) must get down there ASAP
So this turn coming I will dispatch Hiryu, Soryu, Shok and Zuik, and the Ryujo? south along with most of the tankers
AKagi, Kaga will hit Wake, move to Kagoshima, meet zuiho, taiho, hosho and head to the borneo landings

CHINA
allotted 6 divisions for operations around Changsa, they have to earn 50 PP before assualting the place, so Im going to try to surround it 1st
Try this 50pp rule and see what I mean about slowing down China (I reckon it will work)

Housekeeping
lost 3 a/c to 31 that go not too shabby!
ordered all subs to patrol lines near nuomea, and the south east island chain, a couple to johnstone island, and a few float plane capable ones off PM (man I like that game function, thanks MATRIX!)

The troop convoys are filling up, and gathering
Kuching, davao, cagayen, brunie, miri, jolo, legaspi and naga, all second wave convoys are either at sea or leaving port

First wave operations continue well
BURMA
Most of the troops are resting at bangkok, still awaiting the 33rd div, 4th mix reg,23rd reg and some AA units to arrive.

MALAYA
imperial division and 1st tank reg march toward victoria point
At songkhia 4 convoys average about 50 % unloaded
They were again attacked in numbers, again no hits as the oscars performed well

At Khota Bharu the BBs delivered a good smashing, the LBA from Kompong Trach added to the damage, and the deliberate attack went in
The base falls, and a zero sq is ordered in
Again troops keep unloading, these guys too are at 50% unloaded

PHILLIPINES
Unloading at Apirri continues in a leisurly manner
More troops from the pescadores (mostly AA, Eng art and most importantly the 11th ave regiment ) are loading for the phillipines

Honk Kong
We order the troops to attack

WAKE
the troops are about 3 days out, as is KB, sailing now flat out for the island

CHINA
His troops have entered Nanning, hope i can save PP points quicker than him
he is pulling out of Nanchang, my divisions are trying to surround the place
OTHER MATTERS
signnet tells me not much at all this turn
(Ive got troops in Japan! )
It does tell me of troops south of Yunan, which way are they marching?

Finally I have dispatched CVL Ryujo to TRUK, to meet KB2 elements when they are dispatched
The remaining CVLs are still converting claudes, Ryujo will just have to live with them until she reaches Truk.
Enemy CVs Sighted!!!, 4 hexes west of johnson island, moving SW
Kwalejin??? dispatches I-26, 16,7,9,10,17 to intercept.
4 of these have float planes, can I find them again
I-26 happens to be directly in there path
Fingers crossed

No enemy sub attacks yet, and other than 4 hudsons trying to hit kompong trach, no surprises yet!

The invasions continue
BURMA
The enemy is running away from Victoria point, he might make it
We are still gathering at Bangkok, awaiting 33rd division.

MALAYA
Almost unloaded all phase 1,wave 1 troops
Little action today, big air raids planned for tomorrow, with recon flights now ordered for all future targets (the better reconned the less chance of "unable to find target") ALor star will get the treatment tomorrow, and the advance south should begin

PHILLIPINES
The 1st snafu of the campain, Aparri falls ok, but where are the base forces designated?
Still sitting in the pescadores with thumb up bum
Transports are re routed to pick them up

The Naga invasion fleets are all enroute. CVL Zuiho, Taiyo and the little Hosho are sent from Kagoshima to give air cover, Apirri was meant to provide CAP, but....
From here the CVLs can go to wave 2 invasions of Northern Borneo, kaga and akagi will catch up when they can

CVL Ryujo is enroute to Truk

WAKE
Invasion fleet marks time, KB 2 days away

The 1st routine convoy to palua is formed up

CHINA
He attacks at Nanning, forgot, all his troops begin at 100 PP, while mine have none
So we may have the 1st game where China wins a few bases in 42
(until I get rolling, I was going to be content to let China sleep, now Im getting annoyed) He reduces forts to 2, several divisions will have to be found
Hong Kong should fall soon

A big debate about Phase 2 operations
Combined fleet gives a big case for a few divisions from the PHillipines being used for Port Moresby.
We will see.
1st caso of the war, a DD wears a 500 lb bomb from B17s of Apirri, and he loses a sub near bonin island (fluke, Ihave 20 plus escorts from southern area going to osaka for convoy duty, they trampled all over the poor sub)

Burma
Little to report, still awaiting forces to consolidate

Malaya
UNLoading all but finished, some transports are retiring. Troops at KHota Bharu are to advance
Southern Army HQ, 25 HQ and 12 nlf are yet to transfer to malaya, plus all the unloaded remnants that missed the boat
Air raids pound george town for little effect

Phillipines
Big air battles, zero sweeps destroy healthy numbers of P40s, but they hit one AK in counter strikes
Still loading follow on troops at the pescadores

Wake
Forces are almost ready

Elsewhere his subs introduce himself, sinking a PG of malaya, an AP of Hong kong , which takes half the 6th tank regiment to the bottom
Hong Kong down to 4
China is stable, but not what other games are having. Im on the defensive while I try to save PP

A big day
Subs of wake, no success iether way
62 sallies hit Kuantan, and 26 zero sweep over singapore, they brawl with the buffalos, and cull lots
The BBs bombard Wake
Hong kong falls, 38 div is given its next target for Phase 2 ops(balikapapan)
At Nanning we hold on
And his CVs disappear

BURMA
Lots of shipping spotted at Rangoon, APs as well (what to do?)

MALAYA
Moved 2 sally 2 recon sqs to Khota Bharu, and an oscar to Khota Bharu

Hong Kong
The minesweepers move in

Phillipines
Spent ages plotting and allocating again where troops left in the pescadores are to go

Wake
KB is on scene, the invasion is ordered

INVASION WAKE
Agreat invasion of wake.
A heavy naval bombardment, lots of fighters flying cover (no Strikes to save precious bombers), and South Sea Detachment went in, and took the place.
I lost just 1 pg in the invasion

KB is split up, Akagi and kaga go to OSAKA, the other ships head toward the gilberts
CVL Ryujo is half way to Truk
Intend to unload the Vals of Akagi and Kaga, and ship more zeros for the DEI operations
Sub attacks really hurt today, another AP of troops is sunk, and ther JOLO invasion is very much in doubt now
2 other APs are attacked
He may have lost 1 sub in turn

In Rangoon lots and lots of ships, so I move 2 Nell sqs to bangkok, and set to attack
The advance from Songhila begins, the imperial div is in place

Spent 2 hours planning PHase 2 and 3 ops
They are yet to be approved

The next big thing will be the invasion of Legaspi, I have ordered all 4 divisions slated to land at naga to land here, 2 CVLs are providing cover, and Mutsu and nagato will welcome Houston and co if they try to interfere

Slow and steady, it is so hard to resist trying to take everything at once
Has it got air cover, naval support, I must keep asking myself this!!!!

SUBS
Looking at my notes, all I see is sub attack, sub attack, sub attack, and unlike other AARs, all the cursed torps seem to be working
In addition Tabpub has placed most of his Hudsons and some Blenhiems on naval search, and a annoying numberare hitting AKs here, and APs there
All up today 2 AP, 1 ak sunk, 3 other ships damaged, and this happened all over the place
I have formed my 1st dedicated ASW group, it sails to the south China sea, which is crawling with the vermin

Burma
52 Nells struck Rangoon shipping from bangkok, hitting 5AK, 1TK , sinking 2 pg
Most of these ships should sink
1st tank regiment has gone bush near victoria point, so it is ordered to victoria point, then Burma, malaya campain will be over before I see it again grrrrrr
moved the nells back to saigon, in case B17s come calling

Malaya
marching south on both coasts
Hit Singapore, a poor attack, try again tomorrow
Last follow on troops for Malaya load at saigon

Hong kong
Still clearing mines, transports move in for loading

China
He attacks at Nanning, signit actually is helping here, showing troops puoring south to the city
I have troops streaming North!
I think I will hold

Phillipines
OK, still trying to get base forces where I want them, 2 more days and the airforce will be on the phillipines hao I want it
Legaspi falls, but boy, Naga is full of troops
At Aparri, the troops are headed not the usual west coast route, but via tugero?, the east coast, as I suspect he will attack Apirri from there
other divisions approach Legaspi

Mini KB covers the invasion OK

Akagi, kaga staem west, other CVs head to the gilberts

More dash sub attacks. grrrr
And an old trick of his, cats on night naval strike, this time they miss, nagato and Mutsu duck and weave

Burma
Ordered the mixed regiments to march, 4th for tavoy, 23rd for rhaeng?
(I hate trying to spell all these strange places!!!!)
More recon flights, more holes in AKs

Singapore
Sallies operating from malaya, and zeros sweep singapore, the buffalos are shot to pieces
I assign 22 av regiment to malaya, need more support yet.

Honkers
38div, 4th eng reg, some tanks begin loading, must wait for phase 2, then balikapapan

Phillipines
Planes transferred to Legaspi, and the majority to Aparri
Shuffled a lot of SQs,
The mini KB, leaves legaspi, and begins to weave its way through the phillipine islands headed to the south China ses
Akagi and Kaga due west of the phillipines detach their VALs back to tokyo, and gain another sq of zeros each, they will have plenty of CAP power as they too head to the south china sea

Gilberts
4cv arrive, gilbert invasions sail
Ryujo reaches truk, will join asap
4 old bbs headed to truk

Rabual
rather hoping he wil try to reinforce it at the moment
Ive got a fast transport landing a NLF at menando tomorrow, might get smacked, think it is worth the risk.

China
Very quiet, must spend more time there planning what next!

Other

Trying a nasty trick, to coincide with Gilberts op, lots of Glenns from subs will shortly recon Midway, hope to keep him guessing.
wave 2 escorts are sailing to the invasion convoys waiting in the middle of the south china sea.
Kuching is the next target

Only 2 sub attacks today
1 missed, one creamed an AP. regrettably it carried some of the 6th tank regiment,
I now have lost over half this regiment at sea
Tabpub said to me subs were his weapon of choice, my opinion, all you guys who bitch about allied subs doing no good are doing something wrong, Tabpub here is killing me (and I do have escorts for everything!)
grrrrrrrrrrrrr

Burma

Troops begin the march north, victoria point will fall tomorrow

Malaya

CELEBES

IMPERIAL OPERATION ORDER NO 2

PHASE ONE OPERATIONS, WAVE 2

With wave 1 operations essentially complete (landings on Malaya, phillipines), it is desirable to commence wave 2 operations
These will commence with the arrival of AKAGI and KAGA into the South China sea, expected in some 5 days time at the most
With exception of elements of saesabo snlf, and elements of 6th tank regiment forces remain as planned
WAVE 2 OBJECTIVES
To sieze forward airfields for support of PHASE 2 Operations (capture of DEI resources)

KUCHING
TF 62,72,92
21st mixed ,35 brigade,11NLF, 9th base force
TF5 2 BBs and AKAGI group (AKAGI, KAGA,ZUIHO,Taiyo HOSHO) covering
Naval bombard. Nells from siagon to support.
Land, sieze base, establish fighters (currently Claudes, to upgrade) and Nells, commence anti shipping strikes Java area, cut of singapore

Also simultanous assualt

JOLO
TF 102,103
Ikaie snlf, saesabo remnants, 1st AViation regiment
TF8 (CLs) to support
It is essential here that 1av regiment establish airbase and attack shipping macassar straight ASAP

DAVAO/CAGAYAN
TF104
6th tank, 21 div,4th eng,
These forces are to await command order before proceding(awaiting Nagato bombardment group replenishment)

NO operation to begin until AKAGI GROUP in place

GILBERTS
operation Tarwana to proceed as planned
HIRYU, SORYO, SHOK, ZUIK to sail south, and engage targets of opportunity
ENEMY CVs are thought to be in the area, but will number no more than 2

CVL RYUJO will remain at TRUK until Zero conversion can be completed.

COMMAND expects a sharp reaction on KUCHING invasion, forces assigned will be more than enough to destroy him
50 plus zeros on CAP should come as a rude shock

GO day is slated for 21/12/41
Operations to be completed by 27/12/41

FORCES assigned for wave 3 operations to confirm preparations by no later than tomorrow.

Phase 1 ops, Wave one are complete, forces for wave 2 are rapidly getting into position.
One amendment, KAGA and AKAGI will cover the davao invasion enroute to the south China sea, the timing should work out well
MY worst nightmare has been spotted, PT boats
I swear i will never risk a BB near one of them again

Burma
Victoria point falls
1st tank regiment which went bush grrrrrrrrrr, moved 1 mile today WHOOP WHOOP!!
units advancing to Rahaeg
Planes are at Rangoon, I expect the AVG to appear soon, so 1 sq of zeros has been taken from Malaya and given to Burma
Burma air 2 Lilly sqs, 1 zero,1oscar,1 nate. They will strike Rangoon field tomorrow
otherwise its very quiet

MALAYA
Hit Alor Star heavily , he is pulling out though, so units there will attack tomorrow, looks like the delaying, get all units to the DEI game is on (lots of ships at singapore)
Fine, I hope to crush him there
I begin Recon of Adaman island
Troops half way to Kauntan
Final air for this campain is in place 1sonia,1nate,1oscar,2sally and 2recon sqs

BORNEO
Air is assigned, 4recon,1sally,1sonia,1claude,7nell,1lilly sqs
The invasion fleets are in place, the BBs are to recon the place, I actually want him to be interested, and maybe commit some ships. Mini KB is in place, Kates loaded and spotted

PHILLIPINES
Legaspi troops are still unloading, the field is functional, 1 lilly and 1 nate sq there
Mutsu BB group pounded cagayan this day, sinking a single AK enroute
It returns to legaspi
KAGA and Akagi are refuelling (or trying to) in the phillipine sea, they will transit the islands, covering Cagayan invasion as they go to the south china sea

At Apirri we will attack Tugero today, vigan has fallen. All troops are in place to advance. Air is established and will hit manilla tomorrow
4 sallies,1 zero,1 nate 4 recon sqs so far assigned to this campaign
Cursed PT boats spotted davao

GILBERTS
The invasion ships are transitting south through the marshall islands, escorted by CVs HIRYU<SORYU, SHOK and ZUIK and escorts
4 pgs are swanning around tarwana as a lure /advance look see.

CHINA
Extra troops arrive nanning, saving the place
Still trying to save PP

HOME
big turn of industry ect fiddling
Some fuel dispatched to various points
8 base force and lots of smaller base forces arrive, they arrive almost empty, given PP targets way down south
1CS and 2 dds are formed into a convoy raiding force, dont expect them to achieve much, what I want them to do is drag CVs into the area near Fiji, surely from there it would be logical to send them to PM area - where I intend to have a full KB lurking by then (long term planning this!)
Will recon with glenns midway tonmorrow

Finally Tabpub tells me signet has AKAGI pinned to exactly where it actually is (scary!), Im hoping he thinks all of KB is with it( Im trying to get him to think that anyway)

AKAGI CV TF has been delayed fuelling, and with the way his subs are culling my ships I am forced to bring the wave 2 invasions fwd, mini KB has to suffice

BURMA
Struck rangoon with lots of Bombers, some Buffalos rise , minor losses both sides
In return Blenhiems try to strike bangkok, they turn back, Nates are sufficient today

MALAYA
Still marching towards Kula Lumpar ect, and Imperial Division marches on Georgetown

Borneo
The invasion fleets are sighted, and sub attacked, I recon all invasion points, and order the ships to head to the beaches, mini KB will have to provide air at Kuching
based on intelligence 4th mixed brigade changes target from miri to brunie

Phillipines
102 sallies pound manilla
Enemy air still active in malaya, having a hard time pinning it to a field
His Cats night strike again, miss tonight.
Tugero fell, and I recon looking for places I can para drop
The IKeai snlf is all but destroyed as it heads to JOLO, another sub victim, my invasions of the southern phillipines are being wrecked
Defective subs bah!, aint seen a failed to detonate message yet!!!

TF 83 sails towards cagayan with 21div,123 base
TF 104 sails towards cotabo, 23 eng,14tank,15,16 naval guard
tf103, poor old 6th tank was headed to jolo, it too was sub hit, changes tack for nearest beach
More troops from Taan are loading for the follow up of wave 2, again all the troops that missed the boat

CHINA
3 divs are to shock attack in hex north of Changsa as I try to surround it

CELEBES
Menando sees the 1st naval engagement of the war
4 enemy 4 stackers are surprised by my covering force of 1cl and 5dds
2 enemy dds are sunk, 1 of my dds will return to japan at 28 system damage

Gilberts
Ships sailing south, KB hidden still
Ryujo changes to zeros.

basically the plan continues to hit little speed bumps, but it grinds on.

Phase 1, wave 2 ops get into full swing
While KB is in Gilbert area, and with Ryujo joining in a week, I order TRUK to commence its operations in the solomons, I am very keen to occupy quickly this area, only with light troop commitment, and deny it with KB presence.
TABPUB I feel is going to be one of those avoid KB at all cost people, so I will use that to keep him at arms length while actually not committing KB
To this end I inform TABPUB via E mail that a CV TF has sailed south from Truk (actually RYUJO only) and is transmitting very heavily as it conducts CAP operations.
To reinforce this 4 CAs will soon bombard Rabual, followed by 4 BBs a night or 2 later.Betties to hit the field
38 div, from Hong kong will assualt Rabual , it is 2 weeks away
21 div must take Cagayan 1st, then will aim at some time for Port moresby
Soth sea detachment is loading at Wake, bound for Gilli gilli

Another day of submarines sinkings, 1AK, 1 AP today hit
All escorted. All subs got away
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Burma
33rd division arrives Bangkok
march north boys

Malaya
Still marching, enter Georgetown tomorrow

Borneo
6th tank regiment struggles ashore at Taytay, and occupies the island
Troops unloading over the beaches at Kuching, miri, borneo
Very ineffectual martin attacks from south borneo
BBs pound Kuching

Gilberts
Naru falls
Makin falls
Subs at tarwana, KB lurks
CVL Ryujo sails from Truk

Herb

Are you using ASW groups? A gaggle of the little MSWs and PGs with a reasonable commander have done me good service. You may have a rule about TF size. If not 15 or so usually give you a reasonable chance at success.

His ACs are still rubbish at anti-naval capability so you shouldn't have to provide air cover for them, and if you loose a few so what?

Hi wobbly!

Still waiting for 1.5 hey!
House rule, max 6 escorts for all but invasion fleets
Many of the AKs sunk have been unescorted follow on supply ships - so my fault
Also made a mistake of putting several TFs in one hex, some escorted some not, hoping escorts would cover them all.
Nope
he does say subs are his speciallity, and prefers them above all, so
Im going to kill him

For the 2 people who read this- me and me
Empire has a good day today, lots of lovely co ordinated invasions
Tabpub tells me via E mail he awaits my lower borneo invasion.Good, have no plans for there at all for at least a month.

Burma
4th regiment enters Tavoy, and it appears the enemy is coming south! towards it
Has the enemy actually landed troops at Rangoon?
Assigned 7th av regiment to the theatre, need more support
No air action at all, took away the zeros, sent em to kuching

Malaya
52 sallies hit kuala lumpar, still over 40 fighters at singapore, deal with them soon
Georgetown falls

Indo china
Lots of shuffling of forces, and still loading follow on troops, and the drips and dags

Borneo
A good day, Kuching falls, miri falls, Brunie will tomorrow
Only 1 AP hit by subs today, an empty one.
Planes move into Kuching, and miri oil in very good shape

Phillipines
Aparri troops about half way to clarke
Lamon bay captured by paras
Naga, 3 divisions ordered to attack

In the south Jolo falls, trying to get 1st av regiment to land, the ships turned around last night, grrrrr
The invasion forces for Cotabo and Cagayen will arrive today, Kaga and Akagi will provide LRCAP
All forces have surface cover, the navy has swung its ships from borneo to this area

Pescadores are loading more troops for areas south, had to form another ASW group, using 6 APDs

Gilberts
1st real bump in the road, invasion of Aparimo? failed, a sub sinking the SNLF assigned to it
tarwana, naru ect all are mine

Menando, another day of bombardments, awaiting another NLF to arrive

South pacific
KB (4CVs) will move west and meet the CVL Ryujo, and cover the ships now sailing to lots of points in the solomons
rabual recieved a plastering from CAs today, another one from BBs very soon
Wave 2 ops are nearing completion, still Tabpub has'nt made a stand anywhere yet, I bet tarakan and Balikapapan are being turned into fortresses.

Howdy Herb, Al

I'm also following your AAR, I'm getting mine in the mail - so I don't always take the time to go in an put in a comment or two.
Overstretched already, we're working on a nasty thesis report and invading India at the same time. The rat - according to Al - also slipped into the backyard while the cat was away...!

Sounds like you got a good plan, but don't settle for anything less than you can lay your greedy fingers on. In 43 you'll be minced. You should already start to preserve pilots. Dont't launch strikes against Allied ground units unless it's vital to do so. Your storm troopers are more than adept at handling em, ask Al

Would also create as many 6 ship ASW tf's as possible, and escort every single ship you can.
Otherwise you seems to be in control! Good luck and keep pressuring him - be aggressive as he11!

Nice comments guys.
Was worried that wobbly would become a bit gun shy

Personally I think we have come up with the ideal solution for the China madness - 50 pp before a assualt can be launched on a city by that unit.
China is far more historical now

As for winning, Im trying every trick in the book, I even E mailed Tabpub and told him a CV task force was headed south from truk (a single cvl), while I recon midway.
The real CVs are already lurking.....
I think he is the huker down type...

bad day for imperial army airforce, and they justifiably blame the navy fliers

Burma
Tavoy falls today, I hit the troops north of Tavoy with 50 plus lillies
Troops half way to raeng

Malaya
Troops still headed to Kuala Lumpar, more supplies loading at saigon
Air rested today

Borneo
Brunie fell, 29 bamage to the oil facilities, 30000 supplies loading or enroute to repair them
taiyo unloads her zeros at saigon, they will go to Kuching tomorrow
2 zero sqs will begin sweeps over Java from kuching to begin culling the airforce there

Phillipines
Unloading of AV reg at jolo
KAGA and AKAGI go to jolo, fuel is critical, I have to risk the subs, lots of escorts there
Cagayan and Cotabato troops hit the beaches, only 1 unit reported at cagayan, so it should fall quick, 21 div eager to move south
Aparri air struck Clarke, 3 nates, 27 zeros escorting 103 sallies.
24 P40s in defence - and I definately got the worst of it, losses 3zeros, a nate and 12sallies.just 4 P40s lost
Will rest and re check altitudes ect

Menando
is starting to really attract hudsons and the like, operating out of kendari and ambonia.
They hit nothing, but its nice to know what is where
Will attack very shortly

Rabual
3 wirriways attacked the BBs coming south, the CA TF reloads at truk for another go
All the invasion ships are enroute, these landings will complete wave 2 operations
wave 3 will be occupy rabual and singapore, so a bit of time yet before phase 2
KB is moving towards lunga

Gilberts
Going OK, one or 2 little islands to go, troops to shuffle

Wake
South sea detachment departs today, base forces arrive in 3 days. Im willing to risk it being un occupied over having so many ships anchored in such a vulnerable position

Midway/johnston island
reports from the Glenns see a convoy approaching both places. 1 glenn lost, bummer, I need those eyes.
I really want Tabpub to send resources and forces to midway, less sent south!
I have no intention of tackling that rock

China
so quiet I admit I forgot to even look

A big day, as well as the action spent a great deal of time planning phase 2 and 3 operations
A real lesson from the last game. He who plans well plays well, no half assed invasions this time
I dont know how others do it, but I have a check list now:
Objective
Assign troops (have you reconned the target herb?)and are we gathering PPs?
Assign base troops
Assign a supply convoy
assign air forces
assign naval cover - and MSW forces!
assign naval bombardment
Get it all together, and launch only when enemy air can be at least countered
and try to co ordinate this attack with any others

Score from subs today-
him lots 4 ak, me 1
but naval air got 4 of his APs today

Burma
3 enemy units west of rahaeng, moulemien is empty, he is running away
2 divisions are almost to rahaeng
no air action today

Malaya
I pounded Taiping today, the next target
Began phase 2 preparations, gathering ships at Kompong Trach

Borneo
The naval bombers began to operate from Kuching, lots of zeros available
Not enough supply though (now at bottom of ocean)
Jesselton invasion enroute
The mini kb retires to saigon
some enemy air from balikapapan annoys hell out of me

Pescadores
Lots of phase 3 operations, assigning PPs for targets, shipping units to rabual, or Palua

Phillipines North
Still creeping south, the net closes in
Troops from Naga move north nicely

Phillipines South
Cagayan fell. Cotabo fell. Continue iunloading troops
Moving planes to jolo

Celebes
menando fell
At palua Ive began to gather all the forces required for the invasion of the Celebes
Need a fair bit of shipping for this, and I feel Menando will have to be a size 4 before I get really serious, the CVs this time are going to be elswhere

Solomons
BBs and CAs are playing my turn, your turn pounding rabual

All up a good turn

25/12

Day of the subs
Submarine action all over the place, totals
I lost 2 APs
He lost 3ak,1 tnk and 2 subs today
Compared to the AI Im getting very worried about this carnage, the AI and the merchanties will last forever, against tabpub this is getting serious
Even with all convoys escorted,Im still losing ships at a frightening rate

BURMA
2 divs arrive at rahaeng. A pause while I await more air support there, rangoon has a part of AVG operating out of there, don't want nates getting creamed here uselessly, when in a month Ill have so many zeros to cream him

MALAYA
Taiping fell.Moved some air fwd to the place
Ordered Kuantan to be hit next

BORNEO
Tabpub is using the southern bases heavily, no real damage though
He complains that tobalia - a resource centre to the west of Kuching is now a no go zone for him
Kuching is really up and running, I am rotating nells in and out, they will now close the approaches to singapore and palembang. Zeros are put on sweep for palembang, time to start killing his air
Brunie needs 29 repairs, supplies en route
Hong Kong - lots of troops to pick up for operations down south

CELEBES
planning complete

PHILLIPINES
Its all troops marching today stuff

Solomons
Invasion ships approaching various locations, the Admiralties fell today

China
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Other notes
4CV and 1 cvl lurk near lunga
2CV are enroute to saigon to join the CVL there, they are packed with fighters
PHASE 1 is almost complete, with the solomon islands occupied PHASE 2 will begin

PHASE 2 General Planning
Wave 1
Finish occupying Malaya
Drive enemy into Bataan
Occupy Rabual/ Milne bay

Wave 2
Relocate troops from phillipines
occupy celebes
occupy Port Moresby, thursday island, possibly darwin?

PHASE 3
advance planning is to occupy java, starting at the north, witha 6 division land death star

I have allocated divisions for all these ops, still debating, writing an operational order, lots of planning to go yet
Much depends on the phillipines, need those divisions, I intend to give 3 to Java ops, 1 to PM- which with the 2 already enroute will give plenty for the occupation of PM ect- IF KB CAN KEEP THESE AREAS BLOCKADED FOR THE NEXT MONTH
THUS KB will show its hand this turn , then plain as day sail to PM, announcing her presence all the way
I reckon tabpub is a -avoid CV action at all cost man, I need him to be to seize these objectives

So 2 divs for burma
1 phillipines blockade (with a brigade)
6 java
3 for south ops

saving PPS as best I can for another div for the phillipines
Perfect planning prevents piss poor performance!!!!

Longest turn Ive ever played other than turn 1, as I plan phase 2 and 3 ops

Burma

No air action at all

Malaya
We will attack Kuatan tomorrow.he launched some raids from singapore today against Tiapiang
We hit Kuantan. He has 4 brigades there.

Borneo

Zeros from kuching swept over Palembang, shooting down the entire CAP
It will take a while, but the job has begun
Jessletown is invaded today

Main thrust of today was preparations, dispatching forces for PHASE 2 ops
But the war continued elswhere

Burma
Troops are 1 hex west of rahaeng, will bombard and bomb the roadblock in the way
The AVG is active- attacking troops, pin **** damage being inflicted
Im ignoring it

MALAYA
The action was over Kuantan, quite a bit of air combat, Nates actually shooting down buffalos
Kuantan attack dragged the forts down to 3, at 2:1 odds, so the attack is ordered again
It really appears that Tabpub air is going to contest singapore, lots and lots still there.

BORNEO
A sweep of zeros over palembang culls 10 or so, for a loss of 2
4 Nells that slipped through planning struck shipping there as well, hitting an AK , not much opposition. Resting the bombers today
2 very damaged AKs are playing lure - sailing towards the place, to see what is there
Swordfish sink 1 - well finish it off
Jesselton falls
Still unloading troops and supplies miri and brunie
Troops for Balikapapan and tarakan ( which I dont intend to take until all enemy bases in B17 range are mine) have been detailed, and are moving to JOLO

Phillipines
Marching both north and south islands. The gathering of forces at cagayan has begun
troops half way to Davao.

Celebes
I calculate PHASE 2 will begin in 8 days, Kaga group is 1 day out of camrah bay, there to restock fighters and fuel. Lots of fuel enroute to cagayan and palua

Gilberts
Trying with very limited means to take makin island , and to build up tarwana

SOLOMONS
KB refuels , is ordered west, it announced its presence by reconning lunga, hope he noticed!
troops will land at lunga tomorrow, shortlands as well
Rabual is slated for LBA attacks on the ports, and further BB hammering
The Division slated for rabual is still north of truk, come on baby, get going!
Troops for Gilli gilli also are north of Truk

CHINA
Im beginning to think we both have the same opinion of china
I leave you alone, you leave me alone
This is good, for both of us, and I think is actually improving the game experience.

Summary
The action will slow a bit as I gather for the next effort
tabpub has not stuck out his neck yet, nor really have I
submarines are a concern, the ASW groups though might change that
the date is 26/12/41, if I can get Phase 2 underway by Jan 15 I will be very pleased.

A mixed day today, hopefully Tabpub is feeling the pressure

He has only made one aggressive move so far, a counter at menando, signs today of positive resistance, lots of ships about Midway island. I lost a sub there, while hitting a 4 stacker

Burma
2 regiments appose me in the hex west of raheang. Attack!!!
Stupid 1st tank regiment near victoria point has ceased moving, ie Ive lost a regiment without it even seeing the enemy

Malaya
Kuantan falls, troops enter Kuala Lumpar
The advance is speeding up
I order transports to Songhilia, to pick up the air reriment there, for move to kuantan

BORNEO
Order the air to hit Pontianak tomorrow, 2 dds are going to try a hit and run on APs to the west of kuching
Kaga and AKagi gain the zuiho (hosho detaches for a special mission I am thinking about), and will await some re filling out of zeros, before sailing from camrah bay towards the celebes operations

Phillipines
Ships already gathering in the bay at davao, even though the place is still his
Troops kick a road block towards manilla, its next

Solomons
38 div crawls ever so slowly towards Truk/ rabual
4 bbs pound rabual today, killing lots and lots of troops
Its the real tokyo express deal here.
Lae fell today
Lunga will tomorrow or the next, as will the shortlands
KB refuels, and moves to the west towrds PM, to begin a blockade of the Coral sea area

Gilberts
Although my subs are reconning Baker island, I wont move any further here now, Im rather hoping that he occupies it, at the moment it would be a nice place to kill allied forces

China
Tabpub has dissapeared, the 50 PP rule, especially when his forces start with 100 and me none, has killed any offensive action I can take. I notice Yenem is fat with units now
Some I 15s or 16s are attacking my troops, nothing happening really
Suits me!

All up, its going to be 2 weeks at least before phase 2 ops can begin, today I must dispatch all the supplies and fuel I will need for phase 2 or 3 ops.

Still debating how many divisions I need for Java, 5 or 6?
