A tanker is sunk near legaspi -ouch!, then another one in the same convoy!!!

Area1
the sallies begin unloading at Victoria point, thank goodness -thats 50 plus pilots and planes out of the rangoon wreckage.
the fllet retires, and the airforce is now brocken in burma
yammato - 45/1/2, haranua 43/38/2

I am keeping Mushia and a CL TF in the area, along with the CVEs - who unload their planes for rebuilding, training at singapore

Area2
Trying to sweep tenibar

Area3

A big decision today - I form a 3 sqs of betties and zeros reserve at palua - i base this on my UV experience - eventually as the allies advance up the chain , real opportunities open -thats when you release the hounds.
the initial defence will be conducted by the army air -and rookies

I continue to train frantically

Area4
I also make another big decision, stop Francis production, research - me thinks I wont be needing or able to use them, current supply, resource trends -esp oil show an industry collapse in 6 months - even with out enemy action

Area5
China - the training planes head south.

haranua torped by a sub in mallacca straight

Area1
haranua 75 flood - trying to reach kuala lumpar -and AR ship enroute
help!!!

Area2
I strip sumutra of any troops -sending to southern java -a risk, but I cannot be everywhere!

A house keeping day -looking for -what have i missed!

5 AKs sunk on the map today by subs

depressing

A very quiet day, haranua at 77 flood - 1 hex to go, i do not think she will make it

the empire is already cracking -and tabpub has not even applied any pressure

Want to wreck your economy - appoint herbiesan as your economics minister!!

Tabpub returns from holidays at last

29/1/43
Burma front

A raid on Pagan is contested by some oscars today -I lose 3 to to the spits and hurricanes
3 Mitchells attack rangoon, and hit an AP
Rangoon is repaired -but almost untenable I feel -so a few base forces are moving to rahaeng, behind the river -a new division is unloading at Bangkok -it too will take up position there.

The Indian adventure ends, ah well
some 18 betties make an incredibly long flight to Diamond harbour -here they easily avoid mowhawks 9even shooting one down!), and strike 4 large AKs with bombs

BB Haranua reaches Kuala Lumpar -at 57/79/1 - docks, and a AR pulls alongside.
Can she be saved?
yammato reaches Singapore -45 System - all from 1 torpedo -what grrrrrrrr

Dutch East Indies
Soerabaya is maxed out on training planes, as is Singapore
lautern again was heavily raided
The battle fleet is waiting to the North

Solomons
its a matter of trying to get supplies Fwd.
I do not believe he will attack Lunga until he has Ndini built as an A/F, so I have I think about 1 week left.
Convoys are going everywhere, and the submarine fleet awaits.

Gilberts/Siapan/Phillipines/ borneo
one AK sunk today by subs, I continue to build forts as best I can

China
Slumbers

At home I continue to struggle -I am way behind in Nakajima engines, and I have so many Nates i do not know where to put them - but oscar production is so poor(no engines!) it will be forever before I can convert them -by then they will be obsolete totally.
Grrrrrrrrrrr

Hi pauk!

gee, nice to know some one reads this - Umm -I am a bunny and have not worked out how to do screen shots

But at the moment -other than holding Port moresby and lunga -i am totally historical for gains -the front in Burma is at the river at mandalaby -and he holds Akyab.

losses are very very low -but im still well ahead there
will post score ect when I get home
I have no chance of winning -but thats OK -I have an opponent who seems to play like I do -for the journey -not the result.
We both treat our men like they are real.(well mine are more heroic!)

Well, UV veterans like us have to keep together. And the community could show respect for guys who founded separate AAR format

press the print screen button and then ctrl+v in open paint or irfanview and you have it.

hey thanks -now I have to get paint

yes - I am surprised how Wobbly and My idea for seperate AARs turned out -lots of honest people out there.

That AAR in UV is still going -buckets of damage now - and I really hope this will soon turn to the same soon.
(if some one sends me a turn)

thanks for the compliments

30/1/43
was thinking that today might be D day from tabpub -but no -he just continues to squirrell away his forces, and make the snowball bigger and bigger

Area1
Burma
Pagan gets visited by some 48 spits, 38 hurricanes and 25 vengence -again a LRCAP of 8 oscars meet them -3 are shot down - I am doing this to make him use a lot of fighters as escort -so that tomorrow(or whenever they decide to fly) my bombers can have a go
At Mandalaby he has 14 units -at Pagan, 4, and those troops in the jungle to the east as well.
For the rest of the burma front -16th division is marching to rahaeng, to dig in behind the river -more construction troops enroute as well
Also -it occurs to me after reading several other AARs that I am very exposed to a para drop - so little base forces are scurrying everywhere to occupy the empty bases.

South -BB Haranua is 78 flood -it went down 1!
yamato probably wont be seen again for a long, long time -I am thinking of using her as a fixed fortress in a port -tried that with Mutsu in a UV game -very successfully.

Area2
DEI front
I have lots and lots of planes training -graduated some oscars today -pointless sending them to Burma -they move south to kendari -i will be using them for LRCAP in the solomons .
Lots of Subs off Morotai -far too many -this is my convoy route -2 AVs head there for ASW work.

Area3
The Solomons
I have decided the tactics
Oscars and AM2s to provide LRCAP for ships
Tonies and TOJOs base cover
poor experience zeros LRCAP ships
elite zeros - betty escorts
Army bombers to be used fairly heavily -and the betties only to be unleashed if he exposes himself.
I no longer hold any hope of stopping his steam roller -the 3 reserve divisions will be slowly fed into his path.
Its all about simply buying time.
Only missions on at the moment is rotating troops from malaria zones to truk.

Area4
The gilberts are so quiet its spooky

Home and China
I have definately over expended in research for planes -never mind, you live and you learn.

A very quiet day on most fronts

port moresby was visited by B17s, so was Lunga, and some sallies flew in Burma

Only real news was some wildcats flying over Ndini - maybe of a carrier -who knows
haranua 73 flood
what to do with yammato -and the 3 battle cruisers -they have pretty high system damage now.

We send Yammato home -the Battle cruisers will go to the Timor area -one action, then home for refit.
(if he ever attacks)

Some liberators night bombing in burma, haranua 71 flood

Big P38 sweep over PM -only a few rufes to shoot down
Liberators folow -a rufe actually claims one -one rufe pilot has 2 to his credit now.

The ASW war continues, a ship or two a day -but a SS was sunk today

Area1
4 liberators meet nicks in their debut today over burma -the 1st night air to air action
24 mitchells sink a AK in rangoon, sallies attack moulimein

The big news is a huge fleet is coming south from India -4 betties attacked -there was massive LRCAP, and CAP, so I must assume this is a very important fleet.
All units go to ALERT!!! -now i have lost air equality here, but still have teeth if i am careful

betties, sallies recieve fighter escorts, and i am as disbursed as i can get.

Area2
Nothing happening -palembang absorbs 125000 supply points -and is at 126 oil today
Thats 125000 points -what i would do to have them available!

Area3
31B17 attack lunga -LRCAP damage 15.
I have to rotate the zeros out to a full supply base -Tonies move into the role

Area4
recieved a lot of base forces today -when(if) they fill out -they are all allocated to the philipines

Area5
Training continues, and industry struggles along

A very quiet day overall
Pagan gets bombed again -and rangoon is visited

The mass of ships was simply a convoy to Akyab - I still wonder, has he noticed the force 2 hexes north of Akyab blocking the road?
They remain in good nick -unmolested, unsighted, supplied nicely.
I am going to pull them out soon though using subs.

Bad news on the sub front -subs operating in the yellow sea -and they have caught me pants down.

Rangoon is visited by a sweep of 63 P 40s and 24 lightings, but Im gone
pagan is hit by its daily raid
Tauang Gyi is bombed as well -I think his troops might have almost marched to the base by now

18 mitchell hit an AP rangoon today

lautern -a LRCAP of 6 oscars knock down just 1 buffalo training over the base
Port moresby is bombed -61 P38 and 28 liberators - 4 rufe put token resistance up
I think haranua is a goner -flood rises to 75 today

I have just 1 op on at the moment -withdrawing Indian Ocean ships to Davao -to concentrate the battle fleet.

When will he attack!!!!

More sweeps over Rangoon, and attacks on 2 AKs in the harbour
Pagan hit
Tyaung hit

I bet he feels that I must be shattered after weeks and weeks of bombing
bad news -size 9 forts, HQ support -proper preparation -my troops are still in very god shape.

Down south an experiment -some 50 experience betties are sent south with 60 exp zeros against shipping at Ndini
15 zero/14 Betty vs 11 wildcats
2 zero, 3 betty lost, 2 wildcats shot down -2 enemy CAs missed

Lunga is bombed -47 b17s attack, 13 Tony on LRCAP -2 tony shot down
A second betty strike misses an AK
So the betties can get through -need experienced ones to get a hit, so I rotate 1 crack unit in
Subs sink a ML in the slot - regrettably the big 6400 range one
Subs in the yellow sea are running riot! -a tanker sunk today.
poor haranua -flood to 77

Im Hiding, gathering, training - hunting desperately for supplies.

I attended a Bible study last night, and watched a really interesting video on people personalities.

I have seen the light!!!
Now I know whats going on
There are 4 types of personalities -and I can apply them to WITP

Lions - are leaders -they have grand ideas, big plans, and brook little dissent -do it -and don't worry about the details
(Im a little like that -mighty ruler of the empire)

Otters -are do it now!!!, don't worry mate -she'll be apples -where is the party -whoops thats right -Im already at one!!!
(Im also like this -this explains why KB and the battle fleet have been here there and everywhere! -like some sort of headless chook)

Golden retrievers - are loyal-predictable and generally very passive people
(everything Im not) - I think Wobbly is a bit like that in WITP -yes, here is the recon -yes, a 4 BB and massive DD escort bombardment -oh -look, the DMS right on schedule -but -OH yes -something sneaky about the CVs is now happening.

And themn there are beavers
beavers are totally detail obseesssed -everything has to be perfect -beavers are always late, and beavers get hurt badly when things do not go right.

Thats TABPUB to a T -if you ask me.

Another day as he plans, and plans, and plans, and builds, and builds, and builds.

Im going to use this against him -big time.
After Baker -he is still worried about KB -so it must be preserved at all costs -just its threat is causing him to plan , and plan , and build and build -ect, ect, ect.
Delay for japan is very good.
So -lets let him plan and plan.
The solomons will be a slog -but the big ops are of course the Marianas and the phillipines -so KB will be reserved for them
So, KB, the 3 Battle cruisers and the 2 big sisters are sent home -fleet in being.
I will actually unload some air groups -and rotate them on and off a few CVLs -appearing here and there -to make him think.

Today -another quiet day
TABPUB E mails me -he comments on my strength in burma -and has commented that he "I have to totally re think my plan there"
To be realistic I told him of my unit on the road north of AKYAB -it is apparent he has never looked at the W key - in real life I cannot thinkthat a regiment could remain blocking a road for 6 months undetected.

Rangoon got bombed -3 AKs sunk
pagan got bombed - taung gyi got bombed
some Tojos swept a hex -met some spits -knocked a few down

Only 1 AK sunk by a SS today
poor haranua went to 88 flood

I have begun planning the forts ect for the phillipines.
36 days and a new division for Burma arrives shanghia

Area 1 HQ to home command

Situation report -Army -burma front
Sir-
the army in burma has been reviewd -and is reported as in excellent shape.
In detail
Pagan -2 naval guards -both at 90%, and assorted support units -good forts
Mandalaby front - 3divisions, 3 brigades and 3 tank regiments -all at 100%, the exception is 35 brigade -it is 75%, enroute to rangoon for reinforcements
taung gyi -3 naval guard units, 2 tank regiments, a snlf -all at 80-100%
Size 3 forts protect us behind the river

Moulimien -a regiment here is at 75%
tavoy -another regiment at 90%
raehag -the 16th division is enroute
Vic point is secure, and in deep reserve at Songhilia -the 53rd division digs in

All up -5 divisions, 6 regiments, 7 naval guard units, and 4 tank regiments are in position -all in very good shape.
The enemy bombing has been futile -the forts protect us very well

rangoon is a wreck -but well supplied.
I believe the only chance of an offensive before mid 43 from the enemy must be a amphib landing south of rangoon.
I was very dissapointed to lose the BBs this week to home fleet -i note the latest allied convoy to Akyab included R class BBs -so the enemy is worried merely by the possible presence of the Mushia.
i am confident of retaining this front.

Area2
sabang is building int oa nice fort
java and sumutra is very thinly held.
in the timor area

rabo -naval guards
Samba - naval guards
maumene -is building to a good sized base and fort
Timor -2 regiments here

The sorong, ambonia, kedari area / line
is well stocked -with a division at kendari, and 2 naval guard units in reserve at davao
Air forces are good
The BBs are waiting
I too am confident that i can make a good fight of this front

Area3
the solomons
All bases are stocked -as ordered -none heavily -most just with a SNLF or naval guard unit
fort building has been dissapointing -too few supplies .
56 div is the main troop unit -and is divided -some troops enroute to lunga, some detailed off for munda
with 3 divs at palua in reserve -i am satisfied that im as ready as i could be -fort levels excepted.

The airforce is heavily concentrated in this area

Area4
Concentrating on the phillipines -siapan has a division

Area5
Total overhaul of industry today -and the creation of a coastal command -ASW is a mess -so new strategy is being called for.
I am forming 16 ASW groups, and will really start to get serious about the menance.

Come on tabpub -i get more troops soon!

well after 2 huge stocktake turns -it is a weekend after all -i think i have covered the holes i have found

oscars tangle with i-16s over kumming
pagan is hit again
the enmy lands on my roadblock north of akyab -it will be a fight
i bomb troops in burma -just to remind him he needs CAP as well

In china the AVG ambushes some nates -ouch1
Moulimien is bombed

And i raid darwin -32 oscars escort 4 betties -meet lots of fighters -shoot down 7 for 6 lost

haranua is 78 flood -disbanding may have helped!
Coastal command begins to form.

Guess what -Tabpub does buggar all again today!

pagan bombed, moulmien bombed -twice - and hes trying to remove the roadblock
Nothing else happening

Tomorrow I am actually going to pull most air forces right back out of bomber range -let him strike into a vacuum.

Getting a handle on industry -think I might have sorted it out at last.

A terrible, terrible ASW turn -as tabpub E mails me -he can smell oil on the water
not one, but three tankers are torpedoed on the main convoy route -in a savage pack attack

Too painful -OH ouch!,

In china some oscars tangle with I-16s -and lose 1 for 1.
pagan is hit
massive fleet at Akyab today.
I really feel that a amphib assualt is on the cards
And it begins in the south

Area1
The battle to save haranua continues -she is at 76 flood today
Wellingtons attack moulmien -tojos savage them -good
I have 2nd div coming back from the front to rangoon -it may go here.
My troops on the road north of Akyab have surprised him -he did nt send enough 1st time to clear them.

Area2
lautern bombed again
A quiet day -training, forming ASW groups

Area3
6 helen and 36 zero sweep Ndini -8 w/c, 3 fighters lost both ways -we will have another go tomorrow
the big news is PM is absolutely given a max effort by tabpub -
95 liberators, 46 forts,22 hudsons and 13 P38
So -a lot of P38 on LRCAP perhaps?
because allied ships approaching thursday island

Orders are this - a 2CL, 5dd, TF based at woodlark (this includes the OI) is sent at max speed towards thursday
4th yokosuka SNLF at wewak loads onto air transport -and will go to thursday
majority of air is told to sit tight -lets see what happens.

Area4
trying to form several ASW groups

Area5
Industry is recovering HI - but the main focus is ASW -I am trying to reform ASW groups, 6 new PGs, MSWs in 2 days, i cannot afford another tanker day like today!

well the nibble feels more like a bite -yet tabpub warns today was a mere snack compared to what awaits me -and i regret to say -he's probably right.

But what really worries me is Tabpub says he is trying to give up smoking -his third day -and he is feeling really mean and nasty

11000 troops invade at Thursday island -11000!!!
masses of APDs and DDs and PTs
My CL task force sees dawn just 2 hexes short -OH OH!

lautern bombed
109 B17s hit lunga -21 Tony damage 20 odd, shoot down 6 for the day
Mu LRCAP of the task force is blown away -the force is attacked by 31B17, 16 hudson and 15 liberators at 7000 feet.
The hudsons miss the liberators hit everything they attack -
DD -7 hits -sunk
DD -2 hits-45/11/15
DD - 1hit- 40/30/39
CL OYODA is hit 3 times -and she too will not get home.
very annoying
In for a penny -in for a pound -CL OI and 1 DD will press the attack -suicide -but OI might get a few torps in.

Days orders
Area1
Pretty quiet -haranua 71 flood today
31 days until new troops
Mandalaby has now 17 units in it -not long now, and he will pour across the river i feel

Area2
The DEI are quiet

Area3
In two minds over Thursday island
The fleet is all but concentrated at palua - along with 3 divisions, transport and fuel.
Very , very tempted to send them via the timor straight -and begin a struggle here -will see what tomorrow brings -and make the decision.
locally only going to send 1 bomber unit, 1 fighter unit at very high altitude against Thursday -the idea is to fatigue his LRCAP tomorrow -and begin bombing properly in a day or two.
I suspect though that no matter what I do -my airforce will be destroyed in the week ahead.

Area4
ASW forces getting together

Area5
nothing to report today

The decision to press the attack was a disaster -yet I had little choice -as the day showed.

CL OI and 2 DD atacked the enemy at Thursday island -CA Quincy and CL raleigh and only 5 DDs responded
Sometimes when you see that as Japan you do hope to inflict a good bit of damage.

It was a slaughter -all 3 japanese ships sunk -with hardly a hit on the enemy.
OI took 150 plus hits!!!
and my torps missed -his did not.
Then the silly CL Oyoda got involved -she too was sunk
Dawn saw his LBA attack the cripples left over from yesterday -no escape -all sunk
So I think OI would not have got away anyhow.
A bad beginging of the defence -2 CL, 5 Dd lost for 3 enemy DDs scratched

Burma front
2nd division arrives in rangoon -hope to recieve some reinforcements -if not, I will send it back to the front, or moulmien, not decided yet.
Haranua 63 flood! -might save her yet

DEI
he lightly bombed maumere -10 b17 vs 3 zeros -this is interesting indeed -tells me that he does have intentions here -but to what level?
lautern got its daily hammering

Solomons/PNG
the 30th aust brigade -2 base forces, 1 EAB and a hq? landed at thursday island, no attack yet, expect it this next turn.
My sweep over the place encountered no CAP -very strange!
In for a penny -tomorrow the Army bombers will attack -and 1 unit of betties.
low experience zeros to escort

I think this is a real diversion, so I am adopting a wait and see attitude

Saipan, palua, the phillipines
Dig, dig, dig.

Home front -China
Some training flights, and the ASW war begins -most ASW groups reformed

BIG LESSON -escorting convoys does not help to well at the moment -one has to escort them with a ASW group.
Industry is recovering -but is still very, very sick.

What next
So far my thinking has gone from - lets counter attack the 1st opportunity we get -to, lets fight every foot of the way without committing too much -too lets use the CVs now -and the BBs now -to lets keep a fleet in being.

I have 3 Divisions with transports, the entire fleet and fuel for one big op all at Palua

Options
Crush thursday island
Do nothing yet
Or -look very carefully at the reinforcement schedule -a lot of troops -a lot -are due to arrive in Burma , malaya in the next 6 months -but if they are lost I do not get them.
So i could send the troops -or some of them there -mandalaby now has 17 units in it so he's going to come hard and fast south very soon!

2 divisions more in burma would really help (curse that missing unit bug) - now the 2 missing divisions really bites -Im sure Tabpub does not even notice 2 missing from his OOB now.
I will make my decision tonight
Option1 -send 2 divs to burma
Option2 -send 3 to thursday island
Option3 -wait -and reinforce in dribs and drabs against his main thrust.
AAAARRRGH -command is so tricky!

My honourabril opponent. Thursday may indeed be a diversion but if he builds the place up landings on PM will have Land based fighter cover. B-17s from here can also hit Rabaul...sooooooo

Good advise wobbly old chum.
Nice to have someone test run the herb defence tactics for you?

13/2/43
A really strange day.
iether tabpub has really made a mistake -or -well I do not have a clue

A Grand strategy decision was made
KB will remain as a fleet in being.
It is ordered home
The CVEs will get busy and thursday will be fought for -bitterly
A division begins to load at palua.
4 BBs begin to raise steam at menando
tankers head towards the timor sea.
operation quicksand begins.

Area1
daily bombing of taung gyi - he might still have hopes of throwing me out of here -doubt it!
rangoon bombed - of no consequence to me now

Area2
As described, 5th div begins to load at palua, and the route to thursday island is lined with fighter groups to provide LRCAP
Mini KB is nearing Jolo -obviously the counter stroke is going to take a while.

Area3
17 helen attack 4 AKs at thursday -hit one
53 sallies hit his troops
No CAP
This is wierd
and then the attack -a deliberate one -that gives him a 0 to 1
SO
Now what?
I re order troops flown into thursday -the rest of the snlf should go tomorrow.
More bombing ordered
OK -it must be a diversion -but i HAVE NOT HAD TO DIVERT ANYTHING
Im going to fight for the place -hopefully turn it into a quicksand pit.

Operation quicksand continues to gather pieces required

Burma front
2nd div is ordered to tuang gyi
more bombing in burma -tomorrow some tojos will try to oppose -and we will do some of my own

DEI
quiet -

Solomons
No attack at thursday from him
I get another SNLF flown in
The transports move to PM -will fly yet another in from here
Lots of fighters move to PM, and some VALs
Bombers everywhere are ordered to bomb thursday
The CAs go home to Truk -going to re organise the surface groups -learnt a few things since they were formed -a BB in a group is essential -Mutsu and nagato are at truk
Lots of subs are returning to the field

Home front

A completely new convoy system is instituted, with totally new routes, gathering points, and escort philosophy.
Its BIG convoys, with ASW group escort .
Must slow the losses down, must especially in tankers.
japan is now filling fast with ships requiring repair.

a really wierd turn

The 2nd division is in the hex north of rangoon -i call it the twilight zone hex

I click on the unit there -and up pops the IMPERIAL division! -missing since early 42!!!!!
NO SIGN OF THE 2ND But!
OH crap, i think, another unit swallowed by the bug
I try to move the imperial -all i get are messages about no supply trail?
Then POOF -they both disapear.
more frantic clicking, and POOF -the 2nd comes back.
Its ordered to such and such hex, all to follow

very wierd
it would ber nice if the imperial returned though -I NEED IT!

Area1
Pagan Hit
lots of places in burma hit

the poor 35 brig blocking the road is really distracting him -99 to 1 today -the troops hang on!

Area2
its all about convoys and ASW today

Area3
The operation quicksand sails -lots of shiny ships and planes and troops headed south
I bomb thursday -so does he
the biggest shock is a raid on ships at Munda -how far can a liberator fly!!!

Area4
convoys are organised!!!

Area5
Again, its institute a new convoy system

overall the operation at thursday must be a diversion -thats ok -if he's trying to drag assetts away from the tarwana area -so what -the whole area is empty -so that the solomons have become an absolute quagmire (i hope)

4 pt boats stage a cheeky raid into PM -sink a AK

If this is not a heads up that PM is next -what is
pt boats at thursday too -and APs
stupid vals from PM cannot find their targets
plenty of bombing in burma -and at pagan it is hurting

I bomb thursday -he bombs it too
Lunga -3 APs hit by liberators -my Tonies are doing very poorly

Most of the day spent getting about 11 DDs sent home for upgrades -only ships left that do not need em.

Tabpub reckons he made a mistake with thursday -not so sure on that.

A SS hits a fuel filled AK of operation quicksand near menando -so not a good start
18 Val again fail to find a target!
Lots of bombing burma -particularily pagan -112 mitchells -nearly 200 bombers all up
lost quite a few fighters over burma today

At thursday a squadron of zeros attacked pt boats -sinking a few
PM was hammered- almost felt the Vals deserved it
The CAP was not good enough, and I lost 30 planes on the ground all up

Thursday -I now have 2000 troops to his 4000

Area1
The troops at Pagan are suffering -so i order a rotation
haranua is at 46 flood, she is looking good
Convoys up and running

Area2
Is quiet -the convoys are up and running, training continues
I move a few squadrons about getting ready for the ships of operation quicksand

Area3
Ships of operation quicksand wait at Ambonia for the troop ships
An advance unit of 5 DD with troops is at babo island -it awaits some more fuel -then its a sprint in with another SNLF
2CVL, 3CVE, 4 BB constitute the fleet committed to this op

Rest the bombers today, rotate a few about
Pull out of PM, and the transport units are destroyed, they have to rebuild
troops at palua -a NG unit sail for wewak -a back stop unit -if thursday holds a bit longer
I might gather the paras and deploy them to this theatre too

Area4
very pleased with the convoys now

Area5
Industry working again

Tabpub e mails -says he feels he might be a day late at thursday island -I think he expects KB or heavy units to turn up today -unfortunately no
he has been very shy with his CVs -not a sign of them -obviously trying to confirm the location of mine, or draw them out before his next Op
He called this A1 op -A2 is to come he says -reading between the lines -the heavy bombing of PM, its constant recon, the PT boat -the thursday OP -well its not hard to guess I think
Today KB was sighted by a sub just outside Tokyo -he must guess thats KB leaving for waters south -in fact I have no intention of sailing KB until mid 43 now -not until it is zeke fitted at least

Today most action was around Thursday
2 DDs missed one of my SS off the base -the waters are thick with subs now
another ss missed an AK of his -surviving the counter attack
Taung gyi bombed -he seems to be hitting a lot of jungle lately -not many men
However -there is very little recon iether -and I think this does affect results -so Im not blaming the game at all for his 30 odd days of bombing for little effect

i sent 14 sallys and 12 oscars north in burma -15 spits only hit 1 sally

Then at thursday 26 betties and 26 zero attacked the CA chicago, CL helena and a DD
CA chicago took 3 torps -and sunk
helena dodged well
1 betty lost -22 damaged
He hammers PM again 17 planes destroyed all causes there - for me Tonies are not doing so good

and elsewhere the new ASW goups get a kill -the new convoy system is fully operational now.

Area1
No new orders issued -troop rotations going on -and some movement
16th div was stalled in thialand -gave it a new destination -and hey presto -it now is headed to the front at last
haranua is 41 flood!

Area2
Convoys, convoys, convoys, training of fighters

Area3
Operation quicksand
The fleet still awaits the troops to arrive at Ambonia
some DDs have started a shuttle run of troops to babo? -the base north west of thursday
tenibar island also has some shipping there -the trick is to make sure the carriers DO NOT attack it as they sail south
the betties are told to try again tomorrow -a mass of shipping now at thursday island
Tomorrow all the Army bombers will be activated in the theatre - thursday must fall tomorrow, and I hope to catch the fighters that will fly in on the ground -and keep them on the ground
A lot of bombers have not flown yet
My reserve of 100 betties will have a crack -a once only attack, then back .
All that shipping is too tempting

Area4
Im sure that if the gilberts are the target -now that KB is sighted he might go for it
all else is quiet

Area5
the home front is very quiet -a mass of ships in repair and upgrade
Yammato even finally gets home tomorrow -into refit again
