Lost 2nd sub of midway today, poo

The enemy in his E mails complains about my tactics, Im apparently cramping him - hope this means KB mere prescence is doing the job.

Burma
A sub spotted at Adaman island? what the?
We bash the enemy west, 2 divisions marching now towards Rangoon, and Moulmein will fall soon
The enemy is fleeing Rangoon, I now believe he shipped extra troops in, and will make a stand North of the river in rangoon

Malaya
Attack ordered for Kuala Lumpar
The air war goes well, the Nates are actually performing very well as CAP, Im just hammering in ground attacks each objective as it comes up.

INdo China
Loaded all the final troops for Phase 2 ops , and headed for Davao
Kaga and Akagi sail , plus lots of extra ships

Borneo
B17s (27) hit Kuching, not much damage , they are going to be a problem, my answer, capture enough territory that they are out of range of the oil fields - thus Darwin and PM must be taken

Phillipines
North - crawling towards clarke
South - davao will come under attack this week, 21 div reaches cotobo today, continues towards davao
Already fuel and supplies are arriving for Phase 2, wave 3 ops in davao bay
Jolo stands guard with Naval bombers.

CELEBES

Forces load, will sail to just south of davao, then we will take the Celebes
6 transport TFs, to be protected by 6 Naval TFs
Menando is about to recieve heaps of base forces, then some zeros.(from Kuching)
naval cover will be 2CV, 1cvl (shoho is still 5 days away plus sailing time),2BBs, 9CAs, 4cls and DDs
Op order to come

Solomons
Lunga fell, shortland is occupied
KB steams west, I have spotted ships at PM, I order Betties at truk to try a very long range strike, I think it is worth the risk

Gilberts
All quiet, need base forces, they are filling out in Tokyo

China
annoyiny I-15s are sweeping one of those Chinese cities. Why? have not a clue, nor care less.
Our house rule has killed China, which was the intention

Its all going to plan

Burma
The AVG keeps visiting like an unwanted neighbor, leaving nasty little packages
I try to ignore it
Troops reach Moulmein and will attack tomorrow

Malaya
Moving air to forward bases, the oscars come back to malaya as singapore air comes into range
Attack time kuala lumpar

Borneo/indo china
Far too many remnants left behind trying to be loaded, had to use AKs today
Nells from kuching hit Batavia from very high, no cap, and no damage to iether side
The zeros moved to Menando, dodging craters left by B17s, 4 zeros broken by them today

Phillipines
Troops near next objectives, very pleased with the co ordination

Solomons
Unloading continues at Lunga and shortlands, and now Buna as well
Supplies are being loaded, sent from Truk
The BB and CA TFs bombing Rabual are ordered to begin escorting the rabual and Gilli gilli invasion fleets as they enter the theatre
Betties from Truk do strike Port moresby, plant 3 bombs into the CL Adelaide, escorting a AK, so supply run only?

Lots of enemy action at Canton island

Invasion fleets are sailing , or about to

the main targets have garrison base and construction troops assigned
The main combat force will be 56 brigade, and SNLF or NLF make up the rest

TF 123 - 2 BBs
TF 11- 7CAs

little new to report today, as all plans are up and running
Took Sandakan, Buna, Kuala Lumpar today
Troops entered Davao, Manilla and Lingayan gulf today
Dispatched 1st resource convoy to Camrah bay
Had my 1st tanker hit by a sub near davao
sank a sub near menando, lost one near java

And lots of fuel arrives at Jolo

3 to 4 days and Celebes invasions can launch
canton Island has a huge convoy there, but KB cant be everywhere

OH, little Hosho is going around the top of the phillipines, a kate strike will announce a CV presence well north, while Akagi group is silently moving into the Celebes area
Ill tell Tabpub that I forgot to check all my plane settings.
Im fishing for force Z

Burma
March, march, march!, to rangoon we march!

Malaya
We bombed mallaca today, the enemy is going to make a stand here I think
The movement of base forces south from songhila is occuring, so the bombers stand down today, so that LRCAP can be provided.

Borneo
4th regiment is loading at brunie, given a PP target in north java, and will move to kuching for Phase 3 ops

Phillipines
Forces landing at jolo, lots of av support, fuel, and supplies enroute
Davao will fall tomorrow, so will Lingayen gulf.
Manilla a deliberate attack is ordered, and troops will enter Clarke in 2 days
Davao bay is filling with ships for the next op - Timor, darwin and Port moresby
KB2 (Kaga,akagi) is about to enter the scene
Shoho arrives tokyo
little Hosho sends kates on a raid, I tell Tabpub that I forgot to reset a sq, hopefully he will think CVs are way up near Apirri (but really I dont think he is that silly

)

Solomons
KB will arrive off PM today, lets see what we sink, ships are there
Buna is mine
South sea detachment is 3 to 4 days north of Rabual, it picks up the BBs that have been pounding rabual
The Division for Rabual will pick up the CAs that hit rabual again last night, about 5 days and we land

Gilberts
Moving some subs, canton island looks very, very busy, not much I can do though - yet
A CS and 2 DDs are headed that way, lets see if we can do some convoy raiding

China
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
(bet something bites me on the bum there)

Tabpub invites me to pearl, where he claims his CVs are.
That has to be crud, they will be covering the Canton convoy, I expect them to hit the gilberts on their way to Noumea, my rapid thrust south here in the coral sea must be worrying him.

SO December finishes, and we are both being very very circumspect.
I personally am a Thane fan, a realistic type game is far more fun in my eyes.
It is pleasing that so far all the objectives I set have been achieved.
The real fighting I think is about to begin, I predict Java is turning into a fortress.

Keep on marching boys, lots of Aviation support now at rahaeng, but no fighters available

Malaya
Battle is joined at mallacca, and support troops are unloading on the east coast

Borneo
Still moving troops to kuching

Jolo
Getting heavy with troops
I begin heavy recon with nells of all the borneo bases, need to have Tabpub thinking and moving forces into Balikapapan, tarakan.

South Phillipines
Davao gave me a shock, more troops there than I thought, will need 21 div in 3 days time or so to take that place
Heaps of PH 3 troops begin to pile into the place though, let tabpub think again south borneo is next

North Phillipines
Battle joined for manilla, it wont be long iether

Gilberts
All quiet, except the subs are a plague

Solomons
Pounded 1, yep, just 1 AK in PM.
The blockade has begun by LB
Gilli gilli troops are near rabual, rabual troops are near truck

Celebes
The ships begin moving, Akagi and Kaga move towards Menando
Shoho departs Tokyo to join

China
A new plan is decided on.
The PP thing means he can fill a city with troops before I can hope to assualt, so heaps of divs will begin a long, long march to Canton, there they will assualt the south end of the railway

SUBS, SUBS, SUBs
Command, noting carefully the bleating and carrying on on other forums, and the successful tactics on others initiates a new anti sub tactic
Convoys shall progressively be guarded by only 1 escort.
Convoys will sail the shallow water hex route as much as possible, it means heaps of work but it will happen
Deep hex routes will be covered by 6 ship ASW groups, and from now on SUB/Convoy plotting will be the piority when plotting moves!!!
I begin forming the task forces
Little Taiyo has proven the shallow route, I think she will get home now.

I think my esteemed opponent went out a lot this weekend, only 1 turn played.

Very, very little new happened
Mallacca in Malaya fell
The Celebes invasion sails past menando
And the battle for manilla rages

What i did do is form 6 new ASW groups (maybe more), each of 6 ships
All convoys will have only 1 ship escort, to prevent surface attack
Escorts seem to do nothing to stop attacks, so I want to make attacks pay.

moved 72 nells to bangkok, for a port attack against rabual tomorrow, no air there at all, lots of crippled ships to sink though.

Tomorrow Im expecting fireworks

Gawd, how many AARs are there!

Burma
The Nells went in, hit nothing of note, and will now return to saigon
Troops headed to hex north of rangoon, which is being abandoned

Malaya
Sent a sq of Nates in against singapore, they had a 1 on 1 with the Buffalos, 30 individual combats, he lost 5, I lost 5
This mob is going back to bangkok to rebuild
But the sallies then went in, only 3 oscars escorting 123 sallies
Creamed the field, and caught 18 vildebeests on the ground, plus a few others
he struk back at kuantan, hitting a pg
Im still resting troops, awaiting east coast troops to get across to the west, before continuing south

Borneo
Tapbub is convinced tarakan and balikapapan is next, lots of fighters there, mainly P40s
I keep reconning the place

Celebes
The invasion fleets are south of menando, a sq of hudsons attack menando, and are obliterated by the zeros

Phillipines
davao will be attacked by 21 div soon, so many troops at the place I could take it easily now, but I want him to see them all and draw the conclusion of a borneo or south java invasion
In manilla Im a bit stymied, 40000 troops to 10000 and I only get 0 to 1

More bombs maybe,

Holliandia will be invaded shortly

rabual troops arrive tomoorow, order another bettie bashing

The ASW war goes screwy, his subs dissapear. A tanker is to torped at Kawelejien, add that to one mined there as well and I have a very bad day with tankers

The first resource and oil convoys are nearly loaded, only a trickle so far, its a beginning.

25 kates unable to locate target, and kendari is suddenly full of ships
I will send in a 1cl, 7dd force to sink any annoying pt boats tonight
2 days until we arrive kendari, the CVs will lurk and attract LBA, on heavy CAP

Phillipines
Will attack tonight davao
manilla I rest for 1 more day

malaya
Just marching today, or resting, or unloading supplies

Rabual
troops unloading over the beach

Gilli, Gilli, troops 3 days away, KB is doing race tracks off Port Moresby

Little shoho races to the war
Hosho is headed to truk
and a cs is now prowling east of baker, hoping to create trouble

And I need to poke Tabpub with a big stick to get some sort of reaction, his CV usage is plain now - HIDE!!!

55 DIV now north of Rangoon is ordered towards the place, 33rd division is the block
Must figure out what to do next, are 2 divs and a regiment or 2 enough to continue towards the north?

Malaya
I rest again, he strikes at Kuantan and puts a second hole in a PG.

Borneo
This is getting annoying, 44 B17 hit Kuching, the oscars are brushed aside.

JOLO
Lots of troops, and fuel and ASW assets, I hope he believes this is the next thrust

DAVAO
It falls, all of the southern PHillipines are mine, spent ages again assigning future targets for the forces gathering at Davao

Manilla
I order a shock attack for tomorrow, the delay is hurting bad

CELEBES
KB 2 announces its presence with Kate strikes, sinking 2 AKs
The zeros take out more planes
1cl and 9dd clear the harbour of Kendari of PT boats, but I will lose a DD to a torp, better than a BB I suppose
The invasion fleet is to land tomorrow

Rabual
troops unload, wait until all landed, then the place must fall

Gilli, Gilli
1 day to go and the south sea detachment will land

Port Moresby
Tabpub is paranoid about Darwin, KB moves 2 hexes towards the timor straight
and he mails me, air raid Darwin. Wonder what signit is telling him?

Despatched 1 snlf to baker

The CS announces its presence by attacking a tanker convoy east of baker, 2 days of chasing them then RUN AWAY!!. Pity the Jakes missed

Little Hosho is going to help her create doubt and diversion (or find the enemy CVs

Continued to unload troops at Gilli Gilli, rabual, Holliandia
Nasty CATS from PM attacked KB, missed.
Nasty sub attacked KB, was sunk
3 seperate ASW actions, sunk another sub. ASW groups are the go

Darwin B17s go for Kendari
The CS attacks again, and misses again
I try a deliberate attack at Manilla, it fails too
Kendari, davao,GG all fall to me

In malaya the sneak sends a single delaying unit to face me at macassar

The troops arrive at clarke tomorrow

Its the supply situation that has derailed me there, convoys formed all over the place- mush , mush!!!
davao will be the next jump of point.

Began pounding Johore bahru
His air is attracted to kuantan, and hits 2 AKs unloading there.
I decide to keep them there, to act as a honey pot
4 bbs hit Port moresby
Malaya the march continues, pushing aside the blocking unit

In the celebes a big turn, ships sail from kendari for macassar, Kaga covering, all the ports in the celebes have ships enroute
We enter clarke

The nates are hammered today by the AVG, ouch!!!!
Malaya
marching south, the usual gang attacks the AKs at Kuantan, more hits, but it frees my airforce for action elswhere
Borneo
The 1st tanker convoys sail. A trickle of resources are now headed to japan
Celebes
Ships everywhere covering the invasions, betties from kendari attack balikapapan, announcing the presence of my air force, the escorting zeros shoot down a lot of P40s
Phillipines
Is all crap. he shock attacks my forces at clarke, and throws them back
shattered divisions there, wrecked ones down south at manilla, grrrrrrrr
Solomons
KB lurks again, the cl adelaide tried to make a run for it, i believe it sunkby a sub on blockade duty there

Elsewhere I find a CV, it sinks my CS near baker island.
POOOO

SUPPLIES!!!!!! you need em to fight a war guys.

despite the disaster in the phillipines, Im pleased with other places

Every port in the celebes is invaded simultanously today, with sorong and ambonia, bulla and sansapor as well.
Pretty pleased about that
The Shoho gets into the fight, bombing ambonia
We intercept lockheeds over singapore, now what are they doing?

Burma
Troops attack at rangoon, reducing the forts quickly

malaya
marching south - again (my feet hurt boss)

Borneo
He keeps dropping bombs from high places using B17s from soerabaya.
Had a gutfull, I move the ships there back to saigon
The convoys are going OK, he does lightly damage a tanker with a sub, it diverts to hong kong

Phillipines are a mess, silence descends while I await supplies

Celebes
All the ports fall, excluding maccassar. I hold 1 hex off with the main invasion, hoping to cull any airstrikes, or naval strikes

Solomons
Still unloading troops at rabual - no hurry there.
Supplies enroute

Elsewhere
The delay in the phillipines has wrecked my plans.
I order the invasion of timor, troops at davao are ordered to load, 21 div at davao is ordered to Port moresby.
Darwin will have to wait- it remains a target, but the phillipines will have to fall 1st

So much shipping down near PM, and so few resisting troops, I would be crazy not to take the opportunity

he is building canton island
China - evil plans are afoot, basically every available division has been marching towards cantom hong kong area, they have PPs given, it will take several months to get there, but then we attack

1 division is attacking rangoon, lowering the forts, today down to 2
Other troops are marching about.
The lost regiment 1st tank may actually get back to the war this month

Malaya
We are now fighting in the hex 2 north of singapore
he keeps raiding kuantan, today new zeros moved in and gave him a shock
This campain is going well, airforce is in good shape, the army is in great shape

Borneo
The majority of forces are at kuching, 3 mixed brigades
Oil is flowing from brunie, and the nates seem to be keeping the flies away

Celebes
Just cleaning up here already, starting to reload some of the smaller units for further island capturing down south
The ships for timor are loading. have enough fuel (just) for this operation
Macassar is still his (I got a report wrong) but not for long

The solomons
Going very well, will take rabual tomorrow or the next day
KB continues to deny a huge area to tabpub, so lots of supplies are sailing about to the liberated areas

The phillipines
are a disaster. Off naga a deadly ASW war is developing, he knows my supplies have to come in here, so do I . 3 ASW groups, 18 ships are operating in the area, I sunk another sub, he gets one of the ships
talking of subs the cheeky sod has one in the sea of japan!

My subs are coming home, beggining to rotate them, quite a few have lost there glenns, they are the important assets.
My subs are doing the recon thing well.

the gilberts are quiet, a NG force is approaching baker island

Overall the war is balanced, Im facing a major problem with wrecked divisiuons in the phillipines
Can I take the DEI with just 3 divisions and 3 brigades?
Only with max concentration of air and naval power
KB will soon have to go to saigon I think
But PM first!

Today must be the 4th B17 raid in a week. getting tiresome. they do buggar all, yet chew up supplies, damage 2 or 3 planes
JOLO is looking good as a base now

Celebes
3 pt boats get sunk by tanaka and his CAs near balikapapan, they will bombard the place, and get away this turn
Macassar will fall tomorrow, making the entire celebes mine

Phillipines
the supply convoys battle into naga, subs attack, but we get in

Solomons, tomorrow we attack

Ive skipped fwd 3 days of fighting to catch up.
Its been a pain to post all the turns over easter
date 16/1/42

here is the grand summary, and future plans
everything is being dominated by the fiasco at Manilla

BURMA
Rangoon is mine, and Im marching troops towards the place
to give support. No resources or oil in the place, as expected.
Im not going to be able to do much with 2 divisions and 2 regiments, so its defensive for a while.

MALAYA
The army is now in the hex north of Singapore.
Soon we will attack the place. 3 divisions 1 tank regiment.
He still battles in the air, soon I will have to send the full weight of the air force against him.

Borneo
I hold the north coast, he the south. raids cross occasionally, JOLO is threatening, and full of units, hope he thinks they are assualt units

CELEBES
Are totally mine, Kendari has a lot of planes

TIMOR
A new operation is in progress
Kaga and Akagi ,zuiho are covering 3 invasion convoys , little shohs took a 500 lb from a B17 raid. the CAP culled a lot of B17s, but darwin worries me.
2 BB are headed that way to bombard
Plenty of fuel, and 5 seperate surface task forces are in the area
Also 21 division is amongst this lot, enroute via the timor straight to Port moresby, that appears to have just 2 units in it

Papua New Guinea
picking up bases on the north coast, lea, Gilli, gilli buna are mine
38 div , fresh from rabual also sails to PM today, covered by 4 BB, and the 5 cv/cvl of KB
If PM falls easily darwin is next using these 2 divisions, and all the naval forces
rabual is building, air power flowing in

SOLOMONS
Are lightly held, supplies going well

Gilberts
Quiet. Baker fell, only subs opposed
Canton island is crawling with ships and men and planes
Already believe this will be KBs long term target

Phillipines
A mess
4 shattered divisions, ruined. Plenty of supplies now, but they have to rebuild. So Im retiring them to legaspi. Its mid january, febuary 15 and they will try again
To the north the division outside clarke is OK, but will have to wait
The airforce will just bomb and bomb and bomb the ports, destroying his supply
Effectively I have ruined half the army, can I conquer the DEI with what is left?

THE DEI
With the forces available I can do only 1 plan
Land 3 divisions at the port nearest to singapore, and under an umbrella of every zero and naval bomber I can muster march south to palembeang ect

If I hold Timor I may cut of his reinforcements

Eventually the phillipines must fall, hopefully now by April, long term I may try for Akyab, but essentially the land grab might be finished.
Essentially all, and I mean all depends on how quick 4 divisions recover their disruption (some at 50%)
KB must recombine soon. If all goes well some time in mid febuary, early March I intend to cruise to Suva area, and seek the enemy CVs, that or smash Canton island into dust.

And I thought my plans were perfect

A very quiet day
Some air raids in Burma ( very small), some in malaya, a big one on manilla
Landed troops at gasmata

In Burma Im consolidating, moved some nates to the front
In malaya his airforce has withdrawn, I captured the last base on the penisula with 19 men of a DD

The TIMOR invasion forces sail to a revendous in the banda sea, about 2 days
Little Shoho retires, 32 system after the fires were put out
KB puts a cap over PM

In the phillipines I record very carefully the disruption of the divisions, extra base and support troops enroute. lets see how long it takes the disruption to fall

Have began to transfer every zero sq not on a CV towards malaya, in anticipation of invading the DEI
some how I feel that tarakan and balikapapn will be the last places captured this game.
Im trying to save political points

In china a enemy unit appears on the railway south of Naga, so the buggar is up to something too!

Attu island way up north is occupied by a base force, just need some sort of outer warning base

No sign of activity from the enemy, except pago pago now has ships, and canton base is very heavily manned.
Not much I can do about it

Convoys so far are working OK, a pain, but worth it.
Little hosho docks for fuel at shortlands, going to send her south to between Aust and noumea.

Nates intercepted some blenhiems today near Rangoon.
Moved 2 sq of lillies and 2 of zeros into rangoon today from malaya, as there is no air resistance down there, the zeros can do some damage here for a while
offensives are cancelled until the phillipine disaster is fixed

malaya
over 150 bombers hit singapore port that turn, AA was nasty, but no air resistance. Troops about half way there, and in good shape. Aiming to take the place by febuary

Today marks another operation, TIMOR, as the invasion units sail
Again I will try for simultaneous landings at multiple points

Tabpub smells a trap in the phillipines as I withdraw closer to supply bases.
This could get messy.
Today all the troops entered Singapore, and the Nells hit the place. No air resistance

Little Hosho fuels and heads way down south, to lurk east of brisbane, maybe she can catch a troop ship.

A real mix of a day

In Burma I rest the airforce for 1 more day, it will go again tomorrow then hopefully begin moving to Singapore.
Oscars to Burma, zeros to the Dutch

Malaya
Singapore fell today. It will take about a week to get all the base forces down to it, another to get organised. Next stop Sumutra

Borneo
Began loading the 3 regiments at Kuching for operations in northern Sumatra. Oil is being loaded Nells operating from Kuching struk a tanker at palembang today, no CAP

Jolo
Here I am gathering the para troops and transports, for operations against south Borneo

Davao
Is still the gathering place for lots of base troops for occupation duties

North phillipines
Tabpub has a tank regiment and 1 other unit racing to tugero, obviously with my troops at lingayen gulf, he is thinking a quick grab of aparri might catch me out, kill my airforce on the ground
Several NLFs stand in his way, a division that was retiring to nala will drop at aparri , just in case
At Naga 21 div - which is repairing nicely now - smashed the regiment snooping down
2 divisions are repairing, going to repair at Nala to the north, lots of supplies, support and no malaria
He can run all over the place as far as I care, he can do no harm, only a successful plan orange can change the strategic situation.
The secret is :DONT PANIC!

Solomons
This area will require a lot, and I mean a lot of effort to consolidate. Rabual, PM shortlands, lea and lunga all require construction troops base forces. The worst thing is it will take weeks to get the dribs and drabs re united with parent units
Currently 27 zeros, 70 plus betties are at rabual
Port moresby has the south sea detachment, several DDs are running supplies to thursday island

Timor
It was a hard battle, all units are at 50 % disruption, I will look carefully at trying to get reliefs
In japan lots of small units building, they may have to be them - I don't need them for a solomons offensive!!!

Kendari is going to be the base for our next op, 6 tankers are 3 days out with more fuel, with 1 AO torpedoed this week, and others sucked dry, this is the issue

Darwin
This is the next op
In 2 days I will have the entire KB refuelled and ready 8 hexes east of darwin , with 4 BBs, and 2 divisions .
At kendari 2 BBs, a very large CA TF, and several smaller ones gather
At wyndam a SNLF is strugglinf ashore on the hex beside the base, martins from derby hit it yesterday. She is pure diversion, recon.
darwin appears to have the bulk of Australias airforce, but no fighters
Why take darwin?
Tabpub is faced with iether restrict Port Moresby - B17 it to death, or hit darwin.
At this stage he cant do both

In addition 56 regiment is at sea, and several units from Ambonia will join this week north of timor

KB will then refuel at Kendari, and cover the DEI from the Indian ocean side, where subs are a lot less dangerous

The situation in the north phillipines is terrible!!!!

2 enemy tank regiments blew away 2 NLF at tugero last night, and rolled straight on into Aparri
Although now totally cut off from Manilla, they could cause a major, catastrophic defeat today
Personally think Tab pubs liitle attack the best move I have ever seen anywhere on these forums
All my forces are at Lingayen gulf, he just went around them, steamrolled my little road blocks at tugero
I hurridly moved all my air out last night, the base forces ect there have an assualt value of 64, is it enough
The division slated for aparri is 2 hexes out, it should unload tomorrow too
This is terrible news. 30000

supplies at aparri.
I cant afford to lose them
This will be the most important dice roll ever for me

Elsewhere Im moving in and setting up shop in singapore
some martins from Palembang are active, but inaccurate
Burma was quiet

Off darwin KB needs one more day, then here we come!
At Wyndam the troops get ashore, in the hex east of the base, now to cut the road. Tabpub wants to know what BS I am pulling here.

This is interesting - tabpub is getting a bit slack in moving some subs, and the dedicated ASW groups are getting chances. This is the second deliberate I see you - i hunt you attack this week.
Plus subs in shallows are doomed.
I still reckon THERE IS NOTHING WRONG with the ASW model, keep shipss to a max of 6, and things are fine
In my AI game late 43 now, as japan I am finding it a lot, lot harder to kill subs as they gain experience

I order the paras to take Samarinda in south borneo, most transport planes are on jolo, this will be an airlifted invasion
Finally another allied tanker hit today by subs, and a sub is sunk in shallow water of kendari - this one a definate ASW kill

Talking to tabpub Im probably claiming 75% more subs sunk than actual, he says he has a lot of damaged ones. sunk, damaged, as long as they go away!
