Interesting turn
CVs, .many CVs coming through the timor straight!!!
Invasion of Merauke!
52 betties lose about half their numbers attacking from holliandia -they miss 4 CAs, but sink 2 AKs.
Usual bombing all over the map
Heavy air engagement over Lautern, , I lose 50 planes to his single one -as his crack P38J move in

Its too late though, I shock attack and destroy the darwin defence brigade, and a base force.
Timor is retaken

The fleet is moving away, airgroups already re organising, some training to do, formations to reform.

By the time his CVs arrive, my division will have arived at lautern
Timor is more secure than before I hope.

Now Rabual is going to go -but it was written of ages ago.
I think Tabpub time table is slowing.
I may be slowly being crushed to death, but Im encouraged.
Every single time I have chosed to fight, I have won, or severly dented him.
KB still can influence this war, and as long as she lives, he must be cautious.
She will be "expended" somewhere on the inner perimeter.
But not yet.
Not yet!

This little duck will fight on!

I love this AAR, the slow pace of it all, and the scarcity of ressources for japan avoids the "bulldozer" or "over-producing" flaws of WITP... Really great.

Well a stocktake of forces shows Tony, Tojo, oscar pools empty
all transport pools empty
300 zekes
200 judys
no jills
300 zeros
400 george -but production stalled

Fuel state terrible, the fleet will reach davao, and there remain for at least a month until some scraped up can be delivered.
Actually amount of fuel available no longer an issue, shipping it is

a bad day, CV Hiryu takes 2 torps from a SS near menando -she is 40 system.
damn
Planes flying all over the map, tp what bases that have supplies enough to rebuild them.

Normal bombing today, plus Holliandia is swept by P38s, the zekes die
a unit of kami oscars leave wewak for merauke -all miss the DDs there, betties will try a conventional attack tomorrow.

The empire creaks and groans
tabpub tells me CHINA, LOOK, CHINA!
and i say -YES, I KNOW!, but what can i do about it, absolutely no reserves left in china!
Im a bit like a bubble, once you penetrate the skin, deflation comes quick!

little to report action wise.

Just the painful process of rebuilding airgroups.

the betties at wewak had a go at CAs near mearuke (missed), its depressing to se ships that you sunk earlier on, as the enemy power just grows.

For me today, 5 new regiments arrived on map.
One of them, and another i just bought will go to the northern command, i have a very bad feeling about there.

the rest, and some following in a few weeks , are all going to one central point, probably Palua, where they will form a counter attack force.
Would be great to do another lautern, but on a much bigger scale.
This will be the guttenberg battle, he invades some base at the reach of his LBA, and I will try to turn it into some sort of morass.
he keeps complaining that his timetable is slipping, and really, I have not fought him with a big, big effort for a long time, lautern excepted.
.

The bombing of truk has begun
Ive lost it as Japan against wobbly, not sure I want to lose it here quite so easily.

Tabpub continues his bombing all over the Map as he prepares for the next steps forward

I now have to reconsider the situation in Malaya -I was going to train pilots out of singapore (I bomb that island just south) but I suspect singas might be in Liberator range.

So I loaded up a large base force for Palembang, and set sail

None of it arrived -SS on the way, and mines in palembang ensured a watery grave for the 12th base force.
I am running out of ships fast!, the transports used already had 20-35 system damage, just to show whats happening to my merchant fleet.

Other than that disaster, I am still trying to gather the fleet at Davao -with enough fuel to actually go anywhere.

More bombing, he gets forts down to 5 at madang.

I finally can detach troops to Northern Command, and 4 regiments are loading into my last AP convoys for Davao.
Essentially these will have to unload, then get back to Japan for the next troop reinforcements.
I calculate a full 3 div lift left to me, if I concentrate all the APs .

Still going through the pain of rebuilding the CV airgroups. The fllet is at Davao -but it does not have enough supply to allow plane group restocking, the groups had to fly to soerabaya to restock, and are now coming back -with the usual dribbles.

Painful.
Just love the micro management

Madang falls.
The ghost imperial division retreats, still cannot give it orders though

Heavy bombing of Wake, Truk, the Admiralties.

I reckon Wake must be next, no problems there, cannot afford the fuel to defend that now redundant outpost

China the pressure increases, allied deliberate at tatung is barely held I feel.
When the front cracks in China it will be dramatic.
I predict Tabpub will commence strategic bombing of Japan from there in 4 months time.

The fleet rebuild continues.

I have been reading the AARs about overstacking and atolls and forts ect.
Told all my opponents that they could expect only realistic levels of troops from myself, a Division plus numbers of NGs or SNLFs for each island in the Marianas, and regiment size forces elsewhere.

Tabpub says he don't care, If I stack a base he just bombs it into oblivion (he has never spent less than 2 months bombing a base before invasion) or will go around it and take something else.

Still, what I would actually like is for Tabpub too think that the Marianas is a fair ask to take.
I am especially keen for this

for several reasons.
1/ A chance for some real battles, out from under his LBA umbrella
2/ The marianas is the most interesting scenerio to play, and we could have a wopper.
3/ I have practiced this battle head to head, on the stand alone scenerio several times, and most times it is possible to hit the transports , if the plan works.
4/ A real chance for KB -still 1000 planes strong, to go out in a worthwhile way.

So, I let him and my opponents know, lets fight realistically -Ill make it hard but doable, and tabpub, you can come out from under your LBA sledgehammer -and lets see really how good you are

eleswhere today70- P38j sweep Kendari -a bloody battle, 50 rookies go down, for 10 of his, the Tonies just do not cut it anymore, I need Franks!

Fleet 3 days away from filling up the airgroups with the dribs and drabs, some fuel 2 days out, then we redeploy for the marianas -high command declares that this will be the next
deployment, a inner circle battle.

Hiryu is still battling her flooding, 40 odd system, 20 flood still.
her airgroups will be used on a CVE probably.

16/17/18th
last 3 turns have been work, work, work, as I re organise the fleet air arms, and the inner ring defence

The invasion of the admiralties is underway

Lots of comments from tabpub, he now totally suspects my inner defence

here is the last mail between us:
You must be puzzled by my lack of response

I will admit that I am curious about your positioning; from all that I can tell, you have 3 main areas of concentration.
Obviously one is the Far East vs. the English-Indian Army.
You are defending your Timor Celebes Java area
The Marianas obviously are well guarded, but the main concentration seems to be the Philippines; I think that you have 1/2 of your ground and air forces there. At least, that's the way it looks from my end of the scope....

The submarines are not fully engaged against your shipping at the moment, what with other demands that I place on them, as in mining and recon/recovery of pilots. And, you will be proud to know, you have put about 1/4 of them into long term repair in SF,etc I would say. That might be an overstatement, but there are 20 repairing in SF if there is one. And subs only go there if they have more than 20 damage....others repair at PH and other more front line bases.

Glad you have plans done; I have a couple more bases to gobble up and then rest time for a bit. Quite a bit of organizing to do and all that.

. As you have mentioned in AndyMac's AAR, (yes, I read it), I do grind it out quite a bit and I don't think that you will see the "Whole" anything going anywhere; especially with your fleet in being.
If you were down to a couple carriers and sundry BB/CA, then you might see me swanning about; since you aren't, I shan't for the moment.
I will be curious to see how the "early" activation of your kamikazes end up for you; I have to admit that I am slightly put off that my taking some bases on the Chinese coast with Chinese troops has made your "government" desperate enough to enable the suicide boys. I do have some trepidation about how many of the buggars I am going to see later on this year.

basically he has it right on the button.
The plan is to defend the marianas or paluas to the death.
I have told tabpub that only 500-600 AV on each island, to make it playable.
I do fear an attack on marcus, am moving to cover it right now.

I love the time he is giving me, I have 4 BB in repair at home -they would be handy at marcus, or as steel forts at Siapan.

The storm is gathering!

The 19th

Posting from work, and memory

The news is an invasion of the Admiralties has begun
It follows the standard Tabpub pattern
Intense bombing has switched from all the bases in the area to the target, and 2 battle groups naval bombard
The death star is in the immediate area, and launching some strikes against the area,
Troops are pouring ashore.
The japanese response has been for today 6 Sally kamis from the shortlands missing one of the BBs involved, and little else.
kavieng also is naval bombarded, so it too must be on the list.

Troops defending are just base forces.

I have rebuilt the fleet.
And all forces for operation A GO 1 are now in position.
I have put a freeze on all the air units in this plan, any new ones arriving will be put into the fight from here on.
Operation A go 1 has 2550 planes available -thats all I have.
Most of the fleet carriers are sailing to Iwo Jima, while the rest of the fleet remains in Davao.

Spent a lot of time trying to scrape ships to cart fuel to the fleet.
I have actually a smallish reserve building now in the home islands -but little to transport it with!

Economically the death of 1000 submarine cuts have bought my defences to its knees.

Elsewhere I have 7 DD on a desperate Tokyo express shuttle from Formosa to Hong Kong, where an entire 2 armies are steadily starving to death!

The troops keep landing at kavieng
The death star has departed there -and is headed towards Truk.

Its strike is huge -200 plus TBDs, 280 DBs and just 20 Hellcats -all targetted to wreck the place -which they do.
In return just 6 betties strafe heavily a AGC at the Admiralties, they are operating from Wotje (or whatever)

Plotting turn nort so hard today, the airgroups are basically in position, more planes headed to the training grounds.

The re organisation literally sucked most pools of planes dry, but with the low loss rates Tabpubs tactics have allowed, I am managing to keep up.
Even the Francis, which is arriving at 3 planes a day at the moment, has now filled out to 3 squadrons, the first goes to china today, for some nuisance bombing.

Kavieng falls
Admiralties gone
Rabual now a allied fortress and major bombing base/fleet base

Terrible.
But its OK, the army in the PNG can still fight on, and high command pins all faith on operation A GO 1.

The war is not totally quiet, one just gets used to the daily bombing of units in Burma, and China, and PNG.

The current allied advance is particularily insidious
5 Chinese corps are attacking Pisanuloke, here a brigade and sundrys are being steadily battered, forts down to 3 now.
This attack severly threatens the army in bangkok.
I am going to have to make a decision about the army in bagkok soon, its effectively cut off from the world now, what with Hanoi in allied hands, only Siagon remains as a refuge to retreat to.

I probably will commit this army to a stalingrad defence where it stands, lose it here or lose it south -it still will go in 44 some time.
fatalistic, but it keeps the bombers away from the oil of Brunie for a little longer..

The francis makes debut in China -long range ground attacking, this will be fun trying to avoid alied fighters.

I have a single large tanker left at singapore.
Over the last 4 days it has had a very interesting life.
This is a good example of what Im reduced too .
Medan/banka has some 22000 tons of oil -and thats a lot to me!
So the tanker forms up with 6 PG, msw , a CL, and a AS
The AS is the decoy -I hope as its a high value target the planes and ss go for it.
Day 1, a dutch ss misses the tanker -and is hit for the 100th time in return.(it seems)
DAY 2, A BRITISH ss MISSES AS WELL.
dAY 3 A big raid of bueforts straff the tanker -some damage
Day 4, Medan, and I have a squadron of Tojos defending, half go down as the AS is hammered.
Loading oil, as the tankers escorts sweep mines in the harbour (losing a PG) and I try to scrape more planes for CAP.
I used to put less effort into planning a major invasion than this single oil grabbing convoy is getting now!

Oh the joy of WITP as a japanese player in 44!

Kavieng and the Admiralties fall silent today
Pisanloke in Thailand falls to the ever growing army there.
despite best efforts of LRCAP, the transports just keep on delivering enemy troops into the flank attack.

Little action today as Tabpub re deploys -I guess Wake is next, and maybe Marcus.
Wake is a worry -how many B29s can he deploy from there? -if any?
I cannot fight for it -I need LBA to support KB!

marcus is getting more troops.
The war is going quiet again -OH how blessed are these pauses of tabpubs, another 3 or 4 Francis built here, another squadron allowed to fill out there, more training, and a few more units of precious fuel delivered.
I am even considering restarting some ship construction.

64 P38 sweep kendari, cull a terrible toll of fighters , and depart.
Some days in WITP as Japan can be quite annoying!

Other than that the war is deadly quiet.

24 and 25th of the 2nd of 1944.

His bombers are hitting Truk, and wake island.
Enemy fleet spotted moving through the gilberts -so wake it is
The troops on the island write wills, final letters.
They canot be supported.
troops enroute to marcus
Francis bombers moving into the PNG theatre.
KB reaches Iwo Jima
Bombing in Thialand, wake, Truk, usual stuff.
A couple more poorly trained zeke units arrive on map, numbers of squadrons is growing well at the moment.
If he attacks marcus (which I doubt) I will be in trouble.
I really am gambling on a battle for the marianas!
Still, marcus without LBA support is an adventure for sure!

Its almost march 44 -and Tabpub has a long, long way to go.
Heavy bombing of shortlands last 3 days -he appears to be detirmined to occupy every single dot behind his lines.

I am absolutely convinced the next thrust is against wake.
Even with the entire marshall islands long ago in his control a Emily manages to report a CV at Kwal -part of the death star last spotted headed in that direction.

I now have a problem.
Wake I think is doomed, but Marcus must be held.
A regiment is enroute to bost the defences, and after debate 3 understrength naval guards are going there as well.
The problem is KB, nearly a dozen carriers are at Iwo -should I risk them?
The defence of the empire is built now around a thrust up through the marianas/paluas/biak axis, I dont wont to drag forces north.
Yet, Tabpub tells me today that he is fighting temptation just to sail 6 divisions to formosa or japan and have carnage( I hope he does not, simply for the games sake -this is a really enjoyable battle with a very real feel, and that would stuff it big time -anyone care to hint this to Tabpub)
But then if tabpub took marcus, I can isolate it, the fleet after all is still fully functional.
problems!

Another quiet day, other than bombs in Thailand, some poor zekes getting slaughtered there at siem riep.

Quite a steady stream of replacement planes arriving, and today I was able to build a very deadly ASW group, I think I will get about 20 odd escort ships and 3-4 tankers built before I have to turn off the ship building again.

can a person disband a Kami unit -I mistakenly turned a george unit into one

Its almost the end of the month -and a new Tabpub attack is due -he takes an OB per month at the moment, depending on the front
Today Liberators at darwin hit Bulla today -and Timor is attacked again.
Another effort?

More worrying is the new Recon effort further north west of timor, mozzies reaching almost to soerabaya -and all bases right up the chain being investigated.
I have made a new decision, Im going to do my best to get quite a few of the troops out of Timor -a large (the large) transport group I have left is dispatched from davao -time to get a reserve together again.

made a silly mistake today -BB Ise repaired, and then when into refit -180 days and I get a useless floatplane carrier

Some good news, the great retreat to new positions at Songhilia and bangkok is reported a great success -all but a single unit at both places are now reported back at 95% or better strength -and no disruption.
Several new regiments arriving at georgtown this week too.

Very quiet day.
Bulla and wake bashed today

tabpub promises me -a rough 2 months ahead he says..
More attacks on the perimeter he says.

As long as the vital centre is left alone, and the oil keeps dribbling through -he can nibble as much as he likes

ALARM

ALARM

ALARM

A large invasion fleet spotted south of Adaman island -target unknown!!!
Georgtown heavily bombed!.

Please let this be a Sabang invasion, if it sails past and hits the DEI -its all over!

What francis I have are racing north to the Singapore area.
So are some fighters (but NONE from the A-GO defence plan)

Not enough fuel to sail all that way.The fleet remains at anchor.
As Palembang produces nothing -this attack is not as serious as it might be.

But the empire is in trouble.

I have moved 3 killer ASW groups to the marianas -and they sink a SS today enroute

The luck of the Irish for tabpub at sabang
In the AM phase his fleet is 1 hex of the base, and clouded in
So is everything else.

In the PM phase huge raids catch all the planes I have there on the ground -wiping out a Tojo unit, a kate unit, and a betty unit.
And I mean wiped out.

Nevertheless the battle will be joined
3-4 CVs?, numerous BBs, a bucket load of APs ect.
Malaya is filling up fast with planes, Francis is a glimmer of hope.
George moving to Singapore, where this 54 plane unit will fight until destroyed -it has 72 pilots, so replacements on

Lots of zekes enroute
And After the first actions, kamis will have to go in.
I will fight here -but just do not have the strength to win.

A typical situation for us Jap guys in 44

You know one reads PZBs AAR of this period, and its 100's of planes and ships going up in smoke, or gurgle gurgle everyday, here in this AAR the action is , so, so sedate!!!

tabpub buries a base , and every base in range - in a gazzillion bombers, and then shortly later, it falls.
Take note Allied Fan boys, this is how to run a war.
Just cannot come to grips with him -but then again, I just do not have the fuel to even leave davao at the moment.
At sabang several BBs pound away, a AK hits a mine
All the fields in the area are iether clouded in, or craters.

Heavy bombers pound sabang, under corsair LRCAP
The troops storm ashore, and 56th brigade begins its fight for its life
Tabpub has bought a lot of stuff -but again he will have to be patient -I have 356 AV to his 300 at the moment.

Elsewhere my ASW groups sink another SS near siapan -if only I had figured out my ASW war routines at the start of this war!

Hong kong tokyo express still operating , and supplies are actually building -how long I can maintain this? -no idea.
Tomorrow I have a lot of planes ready to attack sabang shipping -if the weather allows

Shocking weather today, and a pretty pathetic japanese response to his invasion
Georgetown is pounded, sabang pounded.
All my Topsys committed are wiped out -and it took a month to build em, so again I have virtually no airlift capacity.

My response -11 Francis attack a AK to the north of Sabang, and get 1 AK

I surrender the air over Kendari -for about the 3rd time in the last week P38s sweep over it -and I just lose so many planes, its time to give it up for a while.

The final, fearful news -a huge fleet -it must be massive -spotted west of Kwal -many LCVP reported.
If Im spotting him at this distance -then here comes real, real trouble.

As boring as it is -even if its Truk, or Wake -I must let it invade unchallenged -its Siapan I fight for -and not before!

Little action today -except at sabang
I really am trying my hardest here -have flown in a big George unit to Alor Star -many Francis bombers, a few Kami oscars -even some Tonies -all to malaya.
His Cvs pound the place, and tabpub tries a deliberate attack -289 AV me, to 362 him
0 to 1 -but forts to 8

My attacks -26 Francis attacked his CVs, only 5 lost as the rest turned away
Interestingly i also tried 6 oscar Kamis -now there has been a lot of debate about the oscar flying at max hieght being non interceptable -well his hellcats could not -but the corsairs took all but 1 out -and it missed..

The francis sq is shattered moral wise -but I move another to attack tomorrow.
Frantically trying to get fuel from home island to the fleet -now at Davao, and Iwo Jima.
I have lost sight of his invasion fleet -but it cannot be far off!

In China he is winning
In the Burma/Thialand theatre he is well ahead of the historical time table, in the pacific -falling behind a bit, I think

Think it would be cheeky to give him a "rating"

Bit annoyed today.
tabpub sends next turn, with a shot across the bows about a "boring game"
Obviously he's heard about some of my comments on this AAR
heres what I wrote back -

Rob
Re-boring
Jump into my shoes mate

Fuel left for just one , maybe two big battles -if that
attacking with air force just means losing 30 or 40 pilots every time
Literally no options for attack left at all
Flat out just trying to preserve whats left

and after all, its the 3rd month of 44 -its up to you rob to set the pace, not me -its not my role to take any risks at all at this stage until I have to -and its up to the allies to force that point.
So Ill just be very, very patient, and let you make the running, because time is on my side now.
The way I read it, it will still take you until mid 44 to get to singapore, mid 44 to clear thialand, mid 44 to clear the north coast of PNG.

Say june 44, and you will still be historically on track
I have already laid out the challenge, there is no more than 750 AV on each of the marianas islands -if you want a real fight, a real challenge -come and take them, .
The boring route is of course crush china on land, fill it with B29s and flatten me.
I have few choices left, other than picking just the right fight, which i intend to do.

Herb out!

I don't know how many, if any body reads this anymore, but it ticks me off to be accused of playing a boring game with the situation Im faced with, and with such a cautios meat grinder player as an opponent to boot, especially when in fact his tactics probably are the most correct I've seen on the forums, unlike the whats losing 30 ships matter -Ive got gazzillions more -type players you read about.

Anyway -the challenge is there -some one please pass on to tabpub that Im fair dinkum -if he really wants to rate as a player -take Siapan -or try to, and stop trying to win the war any where else but in the pacific

You are doing a good job, the game as we know goes between boring and exciting with more boring days being the mix. He is probably bored
with his style of advance, he might be indicating a shift up.

As to putting or directing your opponent where to go, to me that is up to the two players.

btw, I enjoy your AAR.

Good Luck.

Well tabpub says -don't play under the influence -and substitute routine for boring -so all is now good

7/3/44
And the war heats up, and the Tabpub routine occurs again.
heavy bombing, a landing, under massive cover -but again not enough troops.
target is sabang

First i now have 3 killer asw groups operating near the marianas -and they are killing SS -2 down today!

he keeps reconning raba in the DEI -a bypass of timor?
heavy air action over songhlia opens the offensive, 9 tony and 9 george fighting spitfires and medium bombers, light losses.
62 p38 sweep kupang -no opposition

At sabang pathetic small strikes of zekes go in -all lost against british hellcats
a mix of helens and franks attack vic point -only 3 out of ten live, no hits

And Dilli is atacked -28 zeke in CAP vs 58 P38j -and all but 5 are lost -for 1 lousy allied plane.

6 helen attack the BC renown of vic point -but miss.
9 francis meet hellcats, 6 attack a AK -and hit with a dud

Nevertheless, the resistance will grow, slowly but surely, I want tabpub to feel that this invasion is safely ashore, leave the area, and find suddenly he has another struggle on his hands.
plans are afoot to evac the Thialand army to the phillipines, ships are assigned, a trickle of troops headed towards siagon.
going to be at least 2 weeks before this op starts.
also tomorrow the timor evac will begin to roll.
Lots on, not much fighting, but plenty of effort.

Its still sabang as the focus -troops still unloading.
4 Ss are deployed in the area -i-155 sunk, i-35 gets a msw -and lives
Terible weather over malaya -again.
A huge raid hits vic point -18 fighters lost, and the place shut down -almost.
The george unit did OK -taking 8 planes with it.
sabang also is pounded by liberators.

In the PM phase a real shock, liberators out of China hit 2 AK at Aparri
Gawd I hate heavy bombers on naval attack at low level.

Some planes do fly from malaya -small numbers of francis -again the renown is missed, but 12 Jill sink 2 AK, and zekes get another one.

Strange attack south -Emiru island taken today.
tabpub still following the policy of taking every red dot

Tomorrow I will try a risky plan -3 DDs and another group of MSW, which had been escorting that single tanker at singapore (note -had, she hits a mine at medan) will attack near sabang -maybe some CVs will react towards malaya -and my Jills, zekes and kamis that I have for tomorrow will get a chance at his shipping.
