Mutsu shrugs a bomb from a hudson
I sink an AK with a sub
We Naval Bomb darwin

At Lingayen gulf, we throw the phillipine unit out
At aparrir his tanks hold on
And south of nanning 4 chinese units route my division there.
Paras take Saarinda, a new offensive opens

Burma
Little happening here, IM going for Akyab, 2 divisions move north
Malaya - 2 fast BBs sent south to bombard. rest day for the zeros
Borneo
Zeros at Kuching - your turn, lets keep up the pressure
at samarinda the airlift begins
Davao - ships dispatched

North Australia
Tanaka is diverted to hit Derby, lots and lots of ships sighted there. Timor is filling up with a/c

Darwin - KB is ordered to attack
of the 4 BBs that attacked Yamarishio will have to go home, she has 21 system damage.
Tonight Mutsu and nagato will hit, and the real landings continue
It could be an expensive battle.

In China I have ordered units to advance up north, more as an distraction.

Little Hosho continues her lonely vigal east of brisbane

Mutsu hits darwin. But I just cannot close the field ( This whinging about naval bombardments ---- Ive had 6 BBs on station bombarding now, and I cant close down the field, it all seems pretty balanced and realistic to me_)

2APs hit mines
Ta Aparri his tanks are destroyed
darwin defences are revealed. 1 coastal gun, 4 base forces, 1 defence unit, 4 forts
Derby has 7000! troops

The sweep over palembang achieves little
And KB refuses to hit darwin

The battle for darwin rages
More guns, more mines, and tabpub has left his liberators at darwin, they too hit my APs
Yet only 3 APs are hurt, but 2 DDs will sink

The troops get ashore
100 sallies hit palembang
BB haranua hits a mine, bombing palembang, 1340 casos reported
She shrugs the damage
MSW are at work, clearing, we control the air it seems
At yenen my Sonias are hurt, but we advance
The phillipines settle down, troops are recovering - it will take a month

Ships enroute to derby
And a snlf lands in the gulf of carpentaeria, and has only 1 hex to cover to cut the road south from darwin

And We have air superiority in the north DEI, with troops now enroute to Medan

22 Lillies attacked wunchow , and met the AVG. OUCH!, I lost 17

8 zeros swept mandalaby, but met nothing
15 B17 kuching - persistant aint he-met by 48 zeros, and no losses each side
110sally, 80 Nells hit Palembang, escorted by 78 zeros
13 nell hit tarakan
96 sally hit bataan
finally 38Val, 136 KB zeros hit darwin, results were very poor

15 helen, 20 zero hit derby
29 liberators attacked at darwin, met 30 zeros, 15 confirmed liberators shot down

In burma Im attacking west of taung gyi
Sumatra I capture sadang
malaya, the rebuilding continues
Borneo, trying to get AV support into samarinda
Celebes we rearm the BBs, and they are sent south again
Timor, supplies arrive, troops told to prepare to move to aust.
darwin, the attacks continue, these divisions will be badly hurt by the end of this
dont ask the naval cost - its terrible, Im going to lose 10 APs here at least, with 3cl,damaged for months, and at least 4 dds lost all up
In the gulf, the troops unload, and begin marching
Phillipines. troops rest. at Naha recovery is at 5 points a day - this is very good
Brisbane - hosho remains on patrol
Noumea, a sea of red dots surround the place, but no contacts for the subs
The ASW war goes well - he keeps deploying to shallow water - and keeps dying!

Next day
tabpub claims he knows my plan, as if it aint written in red!
Its the 6/2/42
darwin continues, a deliberate attack kils more allied troops, but the odds are 0 to 1
I will rest several days, naval bomb again
The APs are empty, headed to Timor for more troops
KB moves west, into the Indian ocean we go

Finally at Mandalaby the british airforce turns up
lots and lots of planes from there attack my ground troops
I sent 3 sq of zeros to rangoon today, along with 2 of oscars we will rest 1 day, then destroy the british air
Im sure he is convinced that I am committed to Medan or darwin, the numbers of zeros I have is growing very very quickly, Im pumping out nearly 160 a month, while they dominate the sky I want my good pilots to have good planes

Port Moresby grows to size 4, AV support still at sea.

The landings near derby begin/continue, units to the hex NW, and units to the NE of the place

The next target is medan, the invasion of sumatra is not far away

Subs attack KB, but miss
We Naval bombard Medan in Sumatra, and its a good one for a change
More stragglers get into darwin
79 sallies, 66 nell hit medan
today his B17s from soerabaya hit timor, no damage iether side - the difference between a base you recon 1st and those you do not is startling

His Mandalaby AF attacks again
Derby planes cant hit anything, and we see lots of ships now at bali

Today I will attack Mandalaby, 3sq of zeros, 2 of oscars
We land medan tomorrow, 3 full brigades are assigned
In borneo, Samarinda will soon be occupied with support, and AV troops
Im surrounding Derby, and with 5 BBs about to bombard darwin the attack is ordered resumed

KB moves into the Indian ocean, trying to fade from the picture
Little Hosho gets an attack of the nerves, and heads home

In China I try a single brigade shock attack against 1 corp near yenen, and its a fiasco

yenen "offensive" is cancelled.

today sees a sub off japan, laying mines?

We Naval bombard Medan, moderate damage
We naval Bombard darwin, 3 BBs, 1600 casos, 43 guns,13 vehciles, and 2 liberators
Another AP joins the darwin artificial reef, man the fishing will be good in this harbour one day
I try to hit mandalaby, the oscars go, but the zeros did not fly, I think rangoon is overloaded
His hurricanes, and P40s a few lysanders strike at my troops, a few casos
At derby a wirriway hits a AP
B17s attack Massacar this time, no hits
Another naval bombard of darwin, 350 casos, then again, another 587 casos
The BBs are parked and deliberately shooting.

We begin unloading at Medan
At darwin the troops attack the vital objective of the Victoria Hotel, the troops tell me that this will allow an observation post for the artillery to be set up on the upper balcony.
In a 2 to 1 attack the forts fall to 2. The target of the Tin Billy bar (forget the exact name, but its a beut pub) is tomorrows objective
Although short of supplies the troops reliably inform me that capture of this pub will cut of the airfield.
Its all about the beer in darwin

A unit is sighted south of darwin, I really, really hope that that is retreating troops

west of Wyndam my little NLF has run into an un identified unit, this should be interesting

Derby is being cut off, more troops enroute here, and to darwin

Way down south in the gulf, troops are 15 miles inland, 45 to cutting off the road to darwin
In the phillipines all is quiet, troops recovering about 5 points everyday

China, I pull back from the north, I just want him focused to the North, as my troops slowly crawl to the south by the coast road

Have begun to think about the next phases
As I see it, Sumutra will need the 3 divisions
The 5 in the phillipines will be needed for the south DEI, especially soerabaya, and balikapapn and tarakan have to be taken
This is at least 2 months, cant release the phillipine ones for at least 2 months

I cant see all the invasions finished now until may
So, it will be KB as the only offensive weapon I have, for new conquests.
I cant get around it, after the phillipine fiasco, capturing the DEI will be the end of my offensives
No adventures this game.

Long term plan for a victory
Build a huge reserve at Truk.
Then crush decisively the first tabpub offensive.

troops pour into medan
ASW action of Kupang, and Samarinda
Mutsu and Nagato pound darwin
We sweep mandalaby, and nothing rises to defend, very frustrating!
helens hit derby
Wirriways at derby get into stride, hitting a PG and a AP
I can attack north of kendari, the unit there will not resist long

After bitter fighting for the last remaining pub in darwin, a last 16 inch shell destroys the Aussies last keg. Looking around a rumour starts of more beer in Alice springs
Being only 500 miles away ( a quick duck down to the shops for an aussie) they retire

Troops in Darwin spend day recovering. 38 division will need forever. 21 div will rest 1 day
More Naval guard units are enroute
The airfield is a mess
But supplies are good

Over at Wydnam we chase remnants of sparrow force back into wyndam, with more troops about to be landed there, this will be 1 unit not coming back
Derby ops continue
Troops in the gulf have marched 20 miles towards the railway.

KB sails further into the indian ocean
Im watching very, very carefully the recovery of troops.
I must delay the 1st invasion to march 1.
I expect to resume the phillipine invasion at the same time

Concentration of forces, and more supplies are to go forward!

A very quiet day, sweeping mines in darwin, moving planes about

I counted 19 liberators destroyed on darwin field, the pursuit is ordered.

In Burma our advance on Akyab must now be apparent
Will attack Medan tomorrow
160 Zeros will cover the Sumatra invasion
(does not include KB)

Elsewhere, especially in japan, lots of base forces and SNLFs are nearly filled out.
I have put no replacements for all china units, this seems to be helping the manpower fill out quicker
After DEI I am seroiusly considering calling a halt to further invasions, ( other than Burma)its only Febuary, and already Im digging in.

Australia will be very interesting. I will have 2, 3 airfields, he will have alice springs, maybe cooktown. The counter attack will be bombed a lot enroute.
At worse, this gambit is going to give Port Moresby and the solomons a lot more time to build up (and Im a busy beaver there at the moment)
I await his response with interest.

Building far too many zeros, nearly all claude sqs are changed now.

darwin beer runs out, 21 div heads south.

Sub action south of GG
CL Kashima sinks in darwin harbour
16 oscars tried to intercept his mandalaby raid - he thinks Im coming north to manalaby, I aint, its Akyab Im after.
An inconclusive clash
Lillies at legaspi start training, the shattered group from the fiasco in china
Im sending paras to banjarsmin, it appears empty

A massive PP turn, as allocate all the units from the russian front that will be coming south future objectives
Ive been saving PP for an extra division for the phillipines, but as this crises eases, and it becomes evident that I will not be able to go on any adventures

its dig in time

base forces, engineers are growing in strength in Japan, very soon we will begin the real dig in phase

Port moresby airfield is up and running, size 4, betties on the field.
darwin is going to become a hard nut to crack 9 I hope)
going to string a heap of units down the road, dig em in, back them with bombers, probably the helens.

Should be an interesting experiment.
At least the oil will be safe for a little while

The grand plan is nearly ready. Tabpub has fortified Java, and all his ships are there. Now with kuping in Timor built with betties, and derby also with naval air, macassar, and kendari also with air, the southern gate is closed.
KB refuels to the west, plenty left
North , every nell on map awaits, under a massive zero cover.
I intend to sink every ship left in java

Mandalaby air hits me again - tabpub has found the answer to the problem the british have in Burma
NO CAP at all
My LBA is too light at the moment to close fields, so why challenge my raids
Very very annoying

Helens begin operating in Darwin on ground attack
The philipine air force continues to drop a lot of iron
KB is sub attacked , no hits, although I think his sub was damaged

The paras capture Banjasmin in borneo, now to fly in the AV support, and begin to really close the net on java

Burma- march!
malaya - rest, attack troops with LBA
Sumutra - Medan oil is OK, 100% available, tankers enroute
Kuching - zeros to 28000 feet
Borneo - Troops about to pour into samarinda
Celebes - Kendari, moved more air power in, and 35000 resources to be picked up
Timor - Kupang repairs
Australia - troops taking up positions, engineers enroute, derby has 13000 resources
Gilberts - quiet
Phillipines- on current rate of repair, 1st of March will see the resumption of the offensive
China - we begin a new manouvre game near nanning

Other things
The convoys are begining to take shape, with the 1st oil convoy about to get home, and several resource convoys enroute
each and everyone is being individually routed, which means a long turn, but is worth it.

Ive been lurking KB out of range of Java for 2 days, tabpub leaves his bombers on naval attack
KB closes the coast, 90% CAP
52 martins attacked - 164 zeros defended
52 martins shot down

KB will fade away for 2 days, then try again

Burma - enter pagan tomorrow, Akyab 30 miles to go
Everywhere else is very, very quiet

but turns still take an hour

Convoy routes are really starting to get going, 1st major oil delivery will arrive this week.

KB will move again, subs are as thick as nats.

Hoshos announces a CVL in bismark sea
Phillipine airforce continues its job
Troops enter Pagan, begin an artillery duel

Junyo CV arrives, needs to fill out some air.
Samarinda unloading troops, and AV support sails from Jolo for banjasmin

KB closes thecoast opposite of Palembenang

I have looked closely at troop disruption levels
The invasion proper of Sumutra will begin in 3 days
The return of 2 full divisions to the phillipines will begin in 5
KB has about 1 week of fuel reserves ect left, she will go to Truk , change out the extra zeros, and then go and park herself almost permanently between noumea and brisbane- and annoy the crap out of tabpub

FIne, he aint going anywhere, KB retires south, intend to park south of bali, fill banjarsmin with planes this week, and force him out into the open sea
I do wonder how a port attack would go against palembang?
In burma i will attack at pagan
In china 5 div, 3 ind brigades are near canton, to blow the southern china front apart,
Im hoping to surround at least 8 units on the road to nanning.
18th div, imp div and all support troops begin loading at singapore
PH 3 will soon begin.
Im going to sieze adaman island this week (I hope)

The DEI are doomed, and I spent half the turn looking at all the units building in japan.

loss of pilots is a worry, I did however have extra zeros on the CVs, and these seem to have suffered worse. I will disband them into the proper carrier groups.

I clear mines off palembang
104 nells hit batavia, and score just 5 hits
43 betties hit batavia, and score 2
hurricanes from mandalaby continue to harass
helens are training by bombing isolated troops in australia
97 sallies hit bankha
Some swordfish hit 1 msw, and sunk her off palembang
I recon soerabaya, no cap left - a telling sign

In Burma only 9 miles to Akyab
In sumatra we are about to land at Jambi, 4 BBs covering
In borneo, 2 days and we will land all the aviation we need at banjamasin
In Celebes I will build up Kendari as the central base for this area
In North Australia all facilities are repaired, an amazing amout of resources are available at derby.
Planning to build the main defences about 5 hexes south of darwin
Solomons are building now. 4 bettie Sqs and 2 zero in theatre
Gilberts are very quiet
In China troops are trickling into canton, to the North the numbers of troops in Wunchow , and on the road to nanning fluctuate daily. This will be interesting.
KB retires, I want it settled into TRUK, or Rabual. AKagi and Kaga are due for refit
Examining the airgroups, 4 zero ones on Akagi and Kaga were half strength.
So the Vals left behind in Japan are coming south to rejoin Kaga and Akagi, and thezeros flew off to kendari. here the guest groups were disbanded into the "proper" airgroups.
Overall KB fliers remain at full strength, and experience levels on the reformed groups are extrodinary.
BB Hiei struggles along, she will need a lot of yard time.
troops are recovering nicely everywhere. I ahve high confidence this next offensive phase will go well.

little action overall today, several fast transport missions ordered to invade empty hexes

By now his pilots will be getting quite experienced, noticed the last few raids were at 200feet, or 1000 -low anyway

Ouch, driven out of lamon bay.
bankhla is heavily damaged, 4000 oil. the actual oil facilities are in very good shape

All Divisions are now battle ready again, the recommitt to battle is given, ships are loading again.

Getting the malaya campain troops into sumutra
Moving convoys about, the oil is flowing ata trickle, resources as well
i must spend 20 minutes just directing each convoy, most are unescorted, 2 or 3 ship at most.
Lots of troops in japan that have now reached full toe, the convoys are loading up for the south
Subs are inactive, gathering in the gilberts for the next op
KB is moving through the Celebes, enroute to Truk

I have 2804 political points, 10 more days and I will be able to tranfer a home division to the front, then its a flood of engineering and base forces

The attack at wunpunko goes in, 0 to 1, forts 6, I lost 2600 casos to 281

I am becoming very aware the clock is ticking, and so much yet to be done
In 6 days I can purchase a new division, and then finally start buying eng,av units for the south

Not such a good day for me.
Burma
This whole front worries me very badly, 2 divisions are retiring from Akyab, the enemy has a unit due east of it
South of mandalaby I have 2 brigades and a tank unit
Mandalaby has a lot of units
Its in the air that things are going wrong
40 B17s attacked rangoon, only 3 hits, but I have nothing to stop him with yet, the Nates are of course useless
41 oscars and 22 lillies attacked mandalaby, and met 36 hurricanes
Disaster as 27 oscars were shot down
Only 5 hurricanes lost
I have to withdraw my air in burma until DEI taken, then come back in strength
His attacks cause little damage so far, lets see how we go

Malaya
Almost empty of combat troops, lots of aviation support left
4 sally sqs, 4 Nell sqs and 5 zero sqs are in singapore
The nells will hit batavia airfield tomorrow

Sumutra
North is secure, lots of units will have to remain on guard
At jambi still 2 or 3 days to get all the invasion ashore, it has been so slow
MSWs are sent to clear the harbour at palembang
Some enemy air operates out of batavia

lost 2 , shotdown 29 various planes, no compensation though for burma

deliberate at wunchow, 1800 casos, no fort reduction
No engineers - they went to the wrong place
So this attack is a disaster as well
China is a mess

Other things
the 1st sub I have seen on my dedicated convoy routes is spotted, 3 asw groups are dispatched

personally very frustrated that all the offensives have stalled.
2 sub attacks today, hitting 1 AP
April 1 target is slipping right rapidly

The Dutch navy will never get over the shame
For the second night running DD kortenar, DD van ghent attack a lone AP - Ayatosan maru
For the second time she fights them off, and is lightly damaged
demorilised the DDs go home.

Akyab is viosited by B17s operating from dacca
BOOO HISSSS, a sub sinks my heroic AP

Im landing at Noemfor, the north coast of New g is almost all red now
Allied deliberate attack at Wunchow - 0 to 1, 862 enemy casos
Allied Naval bombardment agaian Adaman island, and Akyab gets a 2 BB visit

Tabpub will be very dissapointed with the results, very few casos, and literally no damage

Overall:
Enemy pressure is rising in Burma, Im going to set a trap at Akyab, the army is pulling out here, I hope he tries to re occupy it this early on
Malaya is quiet
Sumutra - very frustrated with troops marching faster than others, I can understand why, just trying to make sure a single division does not get thrown out again is the tricky bit

In china, I finally clear the road to nanning, now to try to surround wunchow, and try again.

Ooops.... Seems to me you lose the war today with such a wrecked Palembang.

Every attack I launch there is with troops having at least 50 prep for this place and 2-3 ENG Rgt. Having engineers in the hex when you take a base with ressources/oil seems to really reduce the damage to oil/ressources.

Im really struggling with the short stick, ive siezed a lousy 250 oil points undamaged out of a possible to sieze of 1200 so far

yes, the war was lost yesterday, but I cant quit.
