Gents or Ladies;

As per zumHeuriger's suggestion, I have created a separate thread for discussion or questions in order to improve continuity and readability fo the AAR. Please post comments there. Thanks.

Figure 21

USN 531st Engineer Shore Regt at work preparing beaches. I felt bad giving the 531st a Troop Quality rating of 4 on a scale of 10 ..but this was more about doctrinal training and weapons than courage. For comaprison, the Rangers and Br. Cmdos, US 82nd Airborne, and German 1st FJ are at 8, parts of Hermann Goering at 7, British 46th, 56th and US 45th and most of the German units at 6, and US 36th at 5 (they were green).

Someone is going to be getting a call from Mr Churchill

The highest losses of any Allied unit so far......B Coy/3rd Bn Coldstream Guards (56th Div)...31% Casualties

For Wodin that is 7 KIA, 21 WIA, 2 MIA

At the Bn level it has to be No. 41 Royal Marine Cdo with 12% casualties (one of the LSI's got hit by a mortar round)

Paestum sector has the densest minefields. It takes a while to clear. mine clearing seems to fatigue the engineers very quickly...I think its the pucker factor. Blue indicates cleared (I think )

Thankyou for that:) 31% fair enough though very technical and no human element. What youve just said, brings in immersion and the human element.

Much appreciated

I just read this AAR for the first time - great job, Cap! The downside is that I've now added this game to my 'must have' list. Matrix is just overwhelming me with good games! I recently got BiN and WaW but haven't had time to play either one of them yet. And now I'll have this game, Empires in Arms, Crown of Glory and Maximum Football to add to my gaming agenda. Oh well - better too many good games than too few!

I'll second that, Guderon, this baby looks like the game I've been waiting for since V4V/WaW. Keep it coming, boys!

One of the problems with the landing of the Special Service Brigade on the Sorrento Peninsula is they dont have a fulsome logistical apparatus, so they are living on "organic" supply (the stuff they carry with them). The plan was for the the 46th Div to push through to Salerno and bring the franks and beans.

Here is a pic of the 4.2" "Four Duece" Chemical Mortar battery attached to the Rangers. Mortar rounds are critically low. The Special Forces Bn's are still in good shape as far as supply goes.

PS..In the newest version of Salerno this battery is foot-mobile. Though sometimes mounted on Jeeps, it appears this battery was transported on hand carts during the battle. The remainder of the 83rd Chemical Mortar Bn that landed with V Corps was truck mobile.

Here is a nice view of the artillery range "circle" (more like a hexagon )

In this case the range is 4km (this was beyond the original desing capacity fo the weapon, but it was retrofitted with a bigger charge)

In cases where there is a hybrid artillery unit with mixed gun types, it is possible for the scenario designer to set two ranges and divide the strength of the unit among the two ranges.

Sorry to dig up an old thread.

Why aren't these types of images put into the game itself? They obviously add alot of interest to the "story" of the scenario, and by looking at a hexagon map I gain no real appreciation for what the area looks like in real life. Reference like the above image gives a good sense of the type of terrain that was fought over and serves as a great primer to the scenario. Are there options for scenario designers to pop up these types of images at the beginning of a game? Or perhaps even in the middle of the game - reinforcement events, or end game photos, whatever.

While some battles have far more available images than others, it would not look too consistent to include such images in every scenario. However, perhaps there can be a website dedicated to the scenarios offering in-depth discussion, images, maps, etc.

I already have one such website designed but not launched yet. It is mostly for historical maps for gaming.

Each scenario does allow a "picture" in its description.

Somebody mentioned GoogleEarth. No doubt it gives one a valuable perspective. Here is part of the Sorrento Peninsula looking Northwest. Maori is where the Rangers landed. I don't think there was any snow in September.
