I'm playing Watchtower, Matanikau River, I'm in the third o forth scenario, ID: Node 10, Battle 04A.
I found a M3 75mm GMC with fast response artillery capability, but others M3 74mm GMC have not.
Also found a ammo dump on the beach, no usefully for anybody..., its carry cost 255 is too heavy for any of the transport in the scenario, and taking a piece of artillery to the beach is, I think, out of scope in the scenario.
Any idea?

Been a while but iirc there are a couple of scenarios where your M3-GMC's can or can't fire indirectly. Look them over and use the ones that can't as direct fire infantry support. The ammo dump may not be all that useful for resupplying your arty, but it will cost you a lot of points if the Japanese destroy it, so I wouldn't abandon it. In fact, seems like a likely target for an attack....

This is a great MC. Don't waste your arty, and expect a lot of hard fighting for your troops. It's even more fun if you play with C&C on, though if you haven't done that before it takes a bit of practice to get the hang of orders. (You have to be a lot more deliberate in your moves.)

Best,

Eric, I have this MC but believe it or not, have not played it to completion. The indirect fire 75mm SP is probably the T30 HMC. As for the ammo dump, it wouldn't hurt to place some AA nearby, but not TOO close--a good opportunity to take down some Japanese aircraft, but if it gets blown up, and you have friendlies too close...

Hi, Who designed this scenario (lower right hand corner)

Procruses, You're right, I'm on scenario 10 o eleven and I found again a M3-GMC's with indirect fire capabilities.
Do you know what is the meaning of these large maps, even if no action at all will take place on some parts of them?

Best,

Mogami, the scenario was designed by yourself. Good job.

Best

Hi, I wanted to make sure. The ammo dump is a Japanese target.

Map size is a relative thing. In the earlier versions of Steel Panthers we had enormous maps and a very limited amount of units. That has been corrected with SPWAW by being able to edit the size of the map.

Now in doing Mega Campaigns Watchtower and Screaming Eagles, we designed large...very large, general maps. Some of the chief map-makers were Orzel Bialy, Recon Hodgman and myself.

Then we cut portions of the maps out and made smaller ones.

There are occasions when the map seems larger than what is needed for a fight. This is usually due to the fact that the designer wanted the scope of the entire area to be visible, to see where the map fit into the bigger picture. For example, Edson't ridge was to the west of Henderson Field. The idea was to show the relation between the two.

And basically all of the designers wanted enough map for you to take whatever space you needed to get the battle done. I've seen scenarios where the units were too crowded and I prefer a map that is too big rather than one that is too small.

Oops! Sorry, Bill, but seriously, I haven't played ANY of the MCs to the bitter end--yet.

To tell the truth, I haven't even finished a long campaign in months. I get thru 8 or 10 battles, and then think of yet another OOB tweak--I go back to the editor, and start all over. (insert "smashing head into brick wall" smiley here)

Not acceptable, Gunnery Sergeant Higginbotham! If you don't finish that MC-Watchtower, I'm going to tell R. Lee Ermy on you. And I know you don't want him kicking your door in!

"Aye aye, sir"...and the red-faced Gunny knows what he must do. He tosses the half-empty bottle aside, gives the native girl a goodbye kiss, and rejoins "the Old Breed".

Lest anyone misinterpret my meaning here, let me explain. I have none

Every once in awhile I get a bug up my butt and kid folks a little. No harm meant. Glenn is one of the hardest working, active gamers I know. I respect him highly whether he finishes the MC-W or not.

He is my buddy.

Hi, Hey Gunny don't lose that half empty bottle. We'll finish it in Columbus.

Thanks for your kind words, Bill. I was just going with the inside joke, as everyone knows
of my support for the Marines.

As for sharing a bottle, Mogami, we'll see. This is, of course, why my wife & daughter are coming to the convention--to make sure I can find the correct hotel room after hours.
