LangChow...this battle can be the turning point in China. If the Japs would win, then they could hold their foot in the north, park the mongolian divisions in defences, along with a pair of Ind.brigades, and move 4000 Assoult points towards Chungking, forcing the cinese to retreat from their advanced positions at Ichang....wow...that would be fantastic!!!
If i fail here, then all my offensive capabilities in the continent would be destroyed and he will have a white card to keep on sending partisans through my lines in order to finally cut my supply lines and create pockets.

For sure RAG-2 operation is somehow more important in terms of means involved. hundreds of ships, my whole CV force, the entire combined Fleet...but china for me is a matter of Honour, blood and dust. Is somehow similar to the european war.
BTW i'm not forgetting the importance of RAG-2. That can be a Midway. the decisive battle in the pacific.
If he brings his CVs everything can happen. It's an all or nothing gamble.
I have the chance of destroyin some very good american LCUs, conquering important pacific bases, closing the main route from US to Oz and dalaying his advance in the area. He's playing very conservative in this match, so probably he won't use his carriers....but Canton island is so damn important for his balance that i hope he will give a try.
The key will be the role of the combined recon capabilities of my subs and my Mavis-Emilies recon planes.
As we all know , without a good recon, the effects of Naval Bombardments are dramatically lowered, and i need my BBs to do the dirty job! I'm quite sure that he does not expect 4 divisions and 2 brigades in the central pacific now, so i hope not to find nothing more than 2 divisions at Canton Isl.......God, i cannot wait!!!!
I have to consider what to do if and when Canton falls. Baker and Nanoumea will follow as planned. Then it all depends wheter he brings his CVs or not. If i manage to sink them i can even go for New Caledonia and Lungaville. If he doesn't i will probably stop my advance and redeploy my forces.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/01/42

It seems that with March my dear opponent has started to think again about the counteroffensive.
Everywhere he's getting more confident.
Ok,let's get a bit of order...

BURMA-INDIA

His subs, every day, lay mines at Akyab. In reponse of that i keep on sending Msws there to clean the port. This routine has proceeded for days, but now something changed.
3 AKs were unloading supplies at Akyab and 2 APs were unloading a CD unit, when, all of a sudden, in the skies of Akyab appeared 3 waves of Blenheims, escorted by the dreaded AVG. 1 MSW was hardly hit and sunk, while one AK was hit but is still afloat.
The base was not defended directly. Only 10 oscars, based at Magwe took off and tried to intercept the enemy. They did not succeed.
My recon says 24 fighters with 78 bombers are now based ad Chandupur....he puts his nose again in the skies of Burma....and that's a problem.
As we all know from Chandupur, Dacca or Diamond he can bomb every single japanese base in Burma and Indo-China.
I have to be ready to defend my positions.
I moved one Oscars Sentai to Akyab and one to Mytykina( cannot risk to leave undefended the base from where my para operation will be launched).
The zeros defend Mandalay and Rangoon. It won't be enough, i know, but i cannot do nothing more 'cause i simly do not have enough planes.

OZ.

Exmouth now has 15,000 men.....incredible how fast it's growin!!!

CHINA:

Nothing changed from Yesterday. One more day of rest for my assault troops there.

NG:

Another Bombardment TF has been spotted, heading for PM. My betties do not take off from Rabaul....how in the world can i defend PM in these conditions?! Sent a CD unit from Rabaul and another Constr. Bn is being transported by air...but he can raid PM without any real risk at these conditions..... frustrating.

CENT-PAC

Another Sub badly hit.... it's really a hell for my brave subs!
His DDs are too precise and too effective to be engaged.

My main ships are refuelling at Truk.2 more days and we'll be ready to sail towards Canton Island.

JAVA:

The first assault at Sosarbaja went really well. Already 3-1 the odds. i think in 2/3 days the campaign will be over.

Now that Java campaign is getting over, i have to consider what to do with Exmouth. If i let this base grow up, it will be a pain in my western Flank, from where he will be able to launch a massive counterattack by the end of 42.
I'll have 2 divisions, 2 Mix brigades and 1 Eng regiment( the other one involved in Java will be sent to PI) ready for this operation. Enough i'd say. The problem is the air coverage. I do not have any CV in the area and there's no friendly base around. I will have 2 BBs and few other warships at my disposal, so the key would be to hit hard with my ships , hoping to close the AF, and then risk everything with a massive landing operation. 15,000 men can mean he will have let's say.....400 APs there? anough to cause me headhaces....but really cannot let him do whatever he wants here.

Darwin will be in danger as soon as he discovers that instead of 4 divisions i only have 2 in northern Oz, so this operations should keep him honest in the area for some more time....

Any suggestion? I'm starting to feel unconfortable, with his encreasing activity in India-Burma, with all those problems in China and with the Gamble of Raid'n'Go operations....and now this.... God, war it's a damned stressing job!

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/02/42

Ok, now it's clear: it's just a matter of time, but he will hit me hard somewhere in Burma or China.
Spotted 16 fighters, 144 bombers and 160 aux at Diamond Harbour.....i think that no comments are needed.
I just hope he won't hit Mytikina at first. I need 1 more week..... one daitai of zeros is now there. Mandalay will remain undefended

Another problem: Chungking. 80 fighters based there now. If he moves his heaviests here i'm screwed. Cannot face now the AVG over Chunking......what to do a part from hoping?

Tomorrow we'll attack again Lanchow...this is my only chance in China.
He's moving more men southwards. Canton is now almost sieged. 2 divisions are facing 18 chinese units...

The only good news is that Sosarbaja has already fallen. Now i have 1200 APs free for Exmouth, but lacking in fuel and supplies...
At Exmouth 17 units for 17000 men...

RAG-2 started officially today. My ships are moving southeastwards from Truk.....hope my heart will remain still

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/04/42

Nothing really new to report today.

Exmouth reaches 20,000 men.
The 5th division is already loading at Sosarbaja.....

My sallies at Sian have been ordered to bomb Chengtu, in the middle-north of china. Have to hurry with the para operation, cause every more day it encreases the chances of seeing Mytikyna closed by allied heaviests. Will be employed 3 para units instead of 5 ( the 2 parachute regiments are late on the roads towards Mandalaya...)- 1,2,3rd Yokasuka SNLFs....hope it will be enough....

he's trying to encirle my units south of Changsha. Tomorrow i'll try to shock attack and re-open the pocket.....but i won't last for long in this strategical situation...

At Lanchow i decided to try again with the encirlement. It's going t take time, but i've seen that there's no way to open the road frontally.

RAG-2 is on its way. ( 6 hexes southwest of Truk).
No signs of allied CVs....
3 units spotted and confirmed at Canton...not that much indeed

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/05/42

Ok, i have to fight against bad luck!
Altough it was a shiny day all over china and Burma, at Sian it rained all day long, so that my 170 bombers could not hit Chengtu....
A part from that the paras operation could be completed( at least the first round)...my brave paras managed to inflict some losses and to distrupt a fort. If tomorrow he won't hit my guys there with his heaviests and if my bombers can take off i should get rid of this damned base!

The RAG-2 operation is going smoothly. My ships haven't been spotted yet. Now sailing 5 hexes westwards of Kwalajein

confirmed 3 units at Canton Island for a gran total of 5,000 men...probably one division would be enough

In Java everything is being packed up.
the 35th Mix bde , along with one eng rgt, 2 arty units and 1 tank unit is moving towards San Marcelino( PI). This should be enough to conquer Manila with the other 4 units present at Clark Field.
The rest of the 25th Army( 5th division + 2 smaller brigades + 1 eng rgt and 2 arty units) are assembling with a surface combat TF...destination: Exmouth!

In China...oh well...in china is a mess!
I'm forced to study a brand new strategy, divided in 2 different zones of influences.
In the South i must mantain my positions and defend. No way to advance here.
Ichang is now a lost victory, so there's no reason to stay there. The 11th Army is moving back in order to estabilish a good defensive perimeter around Henkov.
West of Ankin i managed to shock attack and repulse his last attempt of encirlement. With the help of my level bombers this can be done for the moment.
At Canton the situation i more problematic. I simply do not have enough men to stop him. Will try to move my 23th army corp north of Canton, in order to clean the flank of my main army, but it won't be a walk in the park.

In the north i need to take lanchow. That's clear.
The units that were busy in the last months in anti-partisans activities have now been regrupped in a Rescue Kampfgruppe.
Its aim is to estabilish a bridge head beyond the river of Lanchow( an hex actually controlled by 2 chinese units) and force him to abbandon the city or to be encircled. it will probably take a month , so i have to gain time in the south with a defensive redeployment.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at Lanchow

Japanese Bombardment attack

Attacking force 210002 troops, 2325 guns, 15 vehicles

Defending force 95744 troops, 620 guns, 0 vehicles

Allied ground losses:
68 casualties reported

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at 47,38

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 15004 troops, 173 guns, 7 vehicles

Defending force 4599 troops, 29 guns, 0 vehicles

Japanese assault odds: 44 to 1

Japanese ground losses:
5 casualties reported
Vehicles lost 1

Allied ground losses:
19 casualties reported

Defeated Allied Units Retreating!

these units were those who tried to envelope my army east of Changsha

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at Chengtu

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 2511 troops, 15 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 2135 troops, 18 guns, 0 vehicles

Japanese assault odds: 2 to 1 (fort level 3)

Japanese Assault reduces fortifications to 1

Japanese ground losses:
54 casualties reported

Allied ground losses:
32 casualties reported
Guns lost 2

....one more day...please...i need some storms over allied bomber bases....

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/06/42

I'm proud to announce that the paras-gamble at Chengtu has given its fruits: the base is under control of the Rising Sun!
The cost for this operation has been extremely high however.
59 planes lost only today. Most of my trasnport planes are gone now.
He had two chances to interrupt and stop my operation: bomb Mytikyna or bomb directly my landed troops at Chengtu. He's chose the first one. Well....probably i was lucky with this choice.
The first CAP vs 4E bombers was a no-match! After 1.6 the Box tactic is deadly for fighters!!!!
Lost a HUGE number of Zeros and experienced oscars in A2A battle!
They did not manage to havoc the base howver , so we can fight another day!
He moved his p40Bs to Chungking and LRCAP over chengtu. Managed to shoot down some unescorted transport planes, but could not stop my operations!

This is a very good victory for my morale!

Nothing much happened elsewhere.
the usual commin' and going of ships at Canton Island and Exmouth
and the usual mouse and cat war between my subs and his DDs in cent pac

Today i spotted the usual 24 fighters group at Sining. It seems that he goes around looking for ambushes! But this time weather was on my side and my planes did not took off
No more unescorted raids BTW: too risky at the moment
I managed to catch few P40s on the gound both at chungking at Manila.
now i plan to hit hard both of these bases in order to force him not to use them for a while

3 units have been spotted moving from Chungking to Chentu. Well, i know i cannot hold that place, but i will fight for it....every single resources center destroyed is a little victory now that he's attacking me in central and souther China.

The situation grows worse in the latters theatre named. I managed to put the 23th army corp in the contested hex north of Canton. With some close air support i hope to push them back.
At the same time my 22nd division tried to shock attack a chinese corp in the road between Changsa and Henkov. Results were poor due to the unexperience of the division and the terrain, covered with woods.
the 11th Army is slowly moving back from Ichang. i still do not know if i will be able to defend once left ichang...he has 27 units there plus 7 more around the city...i'd need some more divisions.....30 days and 3 more divs will come in China...hope i will last that long

More APs comming to Baker Island and Canton...hope this means more troops to kill!
My Invasion TF hasn't been spotted yet. Good! 10/15 days from Canton island i guess.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/08/42

great storms all over China and Burma.
No air missions today.

The only thing that needs to be reported is the battle won by the jap 23th Army corp in the hex north of Canton.
Now the flank of my main defensive army ( 2 division and 2 artillery units) is clean again, but there's already 1 more unit waiting to push on my right side( so now 3 units are trying to flank my positions and attack Canton from the North).
The 11th Army at Ichang is retreating in good order. Tomorrow new defensive positions will be estabilished one hex west of Hankov.

the RAG-2 invasion force is now moving in the waters between Kwalajein and Tarawa....more ships movements reported around Canton island. Still no sign of allied CVs.

Exmouth remains my main objective for the southern front.
20,000 troops for 14 units spotted and confirmed there.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/09/42

He's getting ready for another big air action in Western India.
At least 5 bases have fighters present. Chandupur,Imphal,Diamond,Dacca,Jansepur(sp?) and Calcutta....
my defences are underpowered. No way to defend burma with 3 oscars Sentais and 3 Zero daitais. Not with the new rule that favors the big concentrations of heavy bombers!

In China he's moving his planes around apparently with no reason..probably trying to catch me unprepared.
Few p-40s are still in Manila. I pound them every day!

The 11th Army managed to disangage from ichan with no problems! This is a piece of strategical masterwork, E.Von Mainstein would be proud of me
Now it's time to move few divisions southwards and to counterattack!
A 50k cargo convoy is moving from Tokyo to Shangai in order to provide some more supplies for the further chinese operations.

in 2 days my invasion RAG-2 TF will be in range of Catalinas from Baker....we'll see if he eats the bait and comes out with his Cvs....

the 25th army is moving towards Exmouth. Shortage of fuel and supplies but i simply cannot wait any longer!

40 rookie navy pilots will start today their training program in China and PI.

recon confirms 20,000 men at Exmouth and 6,000 at Canton Island

Over

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/10/42

He keeps sending fast bombardment groups to PM. This time my mavis managed to spot 10 ships..probably there are few more!
My 9 Vals at PM took off but in 3 different waves managed to lose 4 planes and not even to scratch the paint out of allied ships!. The big news is that BB new Mexico is part of this new TF...so it will be considerably slower than the previous, composed by CAs and DDs!
My betties at Rabaul took off, but did not find the target...anyway, it's just a matter of time: sooner or later i will get him!
I moved back to Lae every air group at PM. Let's see if the new CD guns can do something against those monsters....btw i left an Ak at PM...hopefully they'll lose time sinking it and my betties could catch them on their way back...

In China no news except for the fact that hes becomming more aggressive every day with his planes. His AFs in China are now full of fighters and in Burma his medium bombers started to hit my resources centers that are not directly defended.
Nothing i can do about it at the moment however

In the PI he moved 10 units to Clark field...where i have 3 divisions and one brigade....hope i can hold the ground untill the rest of the PI army will come ( 10 days at least). The only good news is that if he attacks he burns supplies...

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/11/42

My mavis at Christmas O spotted what seems to be a big TF comming from Oz to India.....moved more search planes in Java and Palembang and placed 4 Nells daitais between Batava and Palembang...hope to get some easy hits
What concerns me is what's the meaning of this convoy. It probably means he has brought supplies and men to Exmouth, which is a problem...

In China the situation in the south is critical. Have to move back my 13th army to Canton, cause there's no garrison there and my flanks are still at Risk, while the supply situation is always critical.
One SNLF unit is comming from Tokyo to give a hand.

His 10 units at Clark are composed of 33,000 men...nothing to be worried about and a good training camp for a sentai of Sonias recently moved to San Marcelino

We're close to Tarawa now for what concerns RAG-2...i set most of my vals and kates to "training". It's risky, but i do want to try to ambush his carriers. He has to think i only have 1 or 2 CVs and some CVEs with me...so only 30 Kates are set on Naval Attack. Let's see if it works

Alice springs reached level 5 AF....moved 70 Oscars and 27 zeros at Daily Waters: quite sure in a couple of weeks he'll start to use his 4E bombers here and i want to be ready!

The good news of today is that his Bombardment TF is going back to Townsville:-)))))
He got scared by my spotting capabilities in the area and turned back! GOOD

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/12/42

A very busy day.

In China our 13th Army managed to retreat almost completely on new defensive positions at Canton. The city will be sieged in few days by 230,000 chinese troops....
The retreat of my central 11th army has been a success. Now the nw defensive positions are gained and can move more freely my units unising the rail network.
I must hold these new positions untill my northern army manage to occupy Lanchow....probably 1 more month..maybe two.

Storms in Burma prevented any air operation.

In the Indian Ocean Japan has sent a clear message to the Brits: THIS OCEAN is OURS!

Torpedo bombers from Batavia scored several hits on a TKs TF...nothing important , but it's a strong message to my opponent!
A CVE full of Kates is reaching Sosarbaja in these days. Will operate as raider in the Indian Ocean.

Had to stop Exmouth op. due to lack of supplies. Have to wait few days in the open sea the new convoys comming from Palembang and Darwin.....

With RAG-2 we're almost at Tarawa. He did not spot me yet. Good!

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/13/42

He managed to bring more than 130 4E bombers over Akyab, escorted by some p-40s.... 17 zeros fought like lions, shooting down 5 fortresses 1 Lib and 2 p-40s and damaging many others, in exchange of just 1 zero shot down.
Their sacrifice scrumbled allied bombing formation and akyab, altough damaged, isn't closed yet!
But news are not good all over the Burma front.
One Rangoon partisan unit(8000 men) managed to enter at Akyab and my men could not push them back with a direct assault.
He's gaining controll of the skies in this theatre....too early!

In China i managed to counterattack and push back one chinese corp that tried to move on the road towards Henkov.
It's a kind of ballet...one gains terrain, the other counterattacks and we come back to the status quo ante.
Bombed again Chunking today with 200 bombers.
He placed 24 fighters at Sining...quite sure he wants to ambush me over Lanchow. Tomorrow we'll attack witj 100 bombers Sinin and with 200 Lanchow...the escort will be provided by oscars and nates.

Moved another Sentai of Oscars at Daily. Now i have 99 operational fighters there...hope it will be enough

I'm sure tomorrow the Catalinas at Baker Is. will spot my CVs....so the time for guessing is over: time for the decisive battle has come!

More ships spotted on the route from Oz to India...managed to sink a TK today in that sector

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/14/42

A very important turn. Decisive i'd say.

Let's start from the beginning.
As predicted he had placed part of the AVG at Sinin. Unfortunately he did not LRCAP Lanchow but waited for me there. No big deal however: my nates were enough to keep at ease those bastards and my bombers could pound the base heavily.
Same fate for Lanchow, pounded again like an envil.

What i give in china he gives me back at Akyab.
Another HUGE raid. my poor zeros fought again like they were crazy! The managed to shoot down a total of 11 enemy planes...losing 6 but on the ground. I have to leave the base. 41 runaway is too risky to leave there my precious zero pilots...anyway they deserve a medal!

In Cent-Pac my TFs have been spotted. Unluckly his Catalinas recognized the shokaku...so no surprises....ok, no problem. We go on as planned.
A strange TF spotted at Canton...it says CS are present...but i guess they are DDs...and i guess they're now running away
Everything now is up to him...will he call his 4 CVs into battle? I hope so...

In the Indian Ocean we found another big convoy going from India to oz....they are brave!
Moved 60 nells to Sosarbaja and will try to intercept with my 2 CVEs..... It's gonna be fun!

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/15/42

In Mid March 42 the war can already be decided.
Seems that he already moved his CVs towards Canton. What appears to be a big CV TF, followed by a BB TF( probably a surface combat TF) is already moving from Palmyra to Canton. GOD bless the glens!
I expect to see his CVs next turn....so the final hour has come. It will be all or nothing.

My 3 carrier divisions have been ordered to move at full speed and place themself north-west of Canton Is, ready to intercept the upcoming enemies. The real problem would be Canton Is. itself with its operational AF. If i was him i'd send my whole air force there and act like an unsinkable carrier...hope he doesn't. But for this reason i will stay 4 hexes far from Canton for the moment.
Everything is ready...may the gods of our dead fathers be with us.

1 CVL and one CVE will stay with the BB divisions that will move at top speed towards Gardner Isl, along with 15 fast MSWs and some fast PG-PCs. To this brave sailors the dirty job of cleaning the way and open a path through the minefields.

The invasion force will come later, at a cruise speed of 8. There should not be any problem of air support for them, 'cause canton has only a level 3 AF and so impossible to use the long range 4E bombers.

My subs have all been ordered to close the gap and obstacle the upcomming path of his CVs...

But, believe it or not....there's much more to tell u!

In china Canton has been sieged. He should not have the strenght to conquer it, but it's a bad news anyhow
At Sinin i managed to destroy on the ground 12 p-40Bs...
There will be another jap attack tomorrow on the road between Changsha and Henkow

In Oz....well...Exmouth now has 23,000 and 16 units...incredible...i really do not know if i can do it...my ships are getting closer anyway...we'll see.. Two DD spotted there...if h brings his fleet assets i'm toasted

ok......let's cross the fingers guys...

hope i'll be in your prayers

Thanks Alikchi! I also have the chance of losing 4 divisions,2 brigades,350 various vassels, 11 between CV,CVL and CVEs and some 9 BBs..... so to say the chance to lose the war after 4 months

Nice reading General

I think you'll do fine...the Allies need more than just a little luck to win such a major engagement in early 42.
If I was the Allied player I'd lurk about and try to catch you off guard or hit your supply train. NoWay I'd go mano el mano
this early after being spotted.

Anyway, don't get to gutsy..I remember another Jap player that lost 2 carriers in a battle near the Phoenix Islands
You're kinda tied up to your invasion fleets and that removes your flexibility and that makes you vulnerable. So keep everything tightly
together and maximise your strenght.

Thanks for comments PzB
Actually i'm really scared and not overconfident. He can smoothly exchange 5 allied CVs with 3 or 4 Japanese ones...and if i have to run away with my wrecked CVs my entire invasion Corps will be doomed....so i'll be patient and defensive

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/16/42

What appeared to be a CV TF has prooved to be a suiced transport convoy. He has surely spotted my CVs and no matters what it takes he's going southwards. Really strange! This TF will be intercepted tomorrow morning if the weather is on my side.
The other TFs that were moving around Canton decided, wisely, to open the throttle and run away. I won't go and hunt them: too risky! Can be a trap!
I'm still waiting for his CVs...i do not believe he's going to lose Canton so easily.
Even no PTs spotted...strange, very strange

In Northern Oz...my little ambush should take place tomorrow morning. 3 APs spotted heading towards Exmouth!
I should have gained control over this sea a lot earlier

In China the attack went well and 3 chinese units were pushed back towards Changsha. Unfortunately i cannot advance any further cause he moved his HUGE Ichan Army today: now the hex west of Hankov is contested

He's ready to bomb one of my AF in Burma. 140 bombers ready at Diamond...i guess he's going for Mytikyna. Simply no way to stop him

Possibley a suicide TF but much more likely a TF he forgot to turn around.

Happens to me from time to time, why should I be the only one?

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/17/42

The supposed suicide TF was indeed a reinforcement cargo. It was trying to bring a base force to Canton island. Has been sunk with no mercy at 120 miles from its supposed objective.
another reinforcement TF has been spotted and attacked at Nanoumea atoll. My torpedo bombers based at Tarawa manaed to sinks 2 ships of that convoy....it loading or unloading ( who knows ) an American Division!...
These signs can mean he wants to fight for central Pac...so i must wait for his carriers sooner or later.
My second carrier division will try to intercept another TF south of Canton which is moving eastwards, while the other two carrier divisions, will close the gap and support the BBs in their route towards Canton Isl. I know he's getting ready to strike with bombers from Canton isl....must be prepared!

Many many DDs are fleeing from Canton moving towards PH...2 of my subs got sunk with no counter hit

In the other theatres, things are moving as fast as here.

In the indian ocean my CVE hosho launched 5 kates against a TK cargo TF moving southwards. Only one hit, but this should theaten him and possibly force him to go back. These attacks should set him on allarm and i hope he makes some mistakes at Exmouth....i'm starting to feel really unconfortable here. 16 units are really a lot! and my lack of supplies for the invading 25th army is a real problem....

In Burma i'm waiting for his huge bombing attack...

in China finally i found a key for Lanchow ( oh, well, i hope so). only 2 units are defending his eastern flank and now 6 japanese units are getting closer to his positions. If he's not crazy he's going to leave Lanchow in a week or 2......and then...oh, well...you know
Very very strangly he moved back his army from Canton. only 4 units left there. probably he wants to have more free hands on my right flank...good! i'm going to reinforce it!
