In my PBEMs i am getting in '43 (as Japan).

I was wondering if some Allied Fanboys can give me some clue on what ALlies can use for attacks in '43 and late in '44.

For example:
1) Invasion of Burma from India: how many divs do you use to do that? when do you usually start?

2) Invasion of Mariannes: how many land units you commit to those islands?

3) In general in '43 how many ground units you can use for offensive operations?

Well, in first 6 months, Allies lost (encircled and surrender):
20k troops in Burma
All DEI troops
15k Aussies at Gili Gili
50k troops at Noumea

Japan holds all islands from Canton to Noumea (both included) and Northern Australia. Burma is in japanese hands as a good part of China.

But my interest is: how many troops allies usually can use in '43 and '44? expecially in Mariannes, or in '43 in Burma.

WOW, you killed alot of troops, I would think that you should simply open up the game .. stock.. as the US and look at troops, and then reinforcements and subtract what you took, That allies get morte and more, so they will be able to get local superiority once they control the seas.. hope that helps

Once USN has sea and air superiority, it didn't need so much troops. The Allied player can choose to bypass defended bases and land on weak spots with 2 divisions and then send 20 ENG units that will build a size 4 airfield in a few weeks.

Same thing in Marianas. You can't defend the four islands, so have to concentrate on Saipan and Tinian (the two possible B-29s base IIRC) but any troop put on an island is "lost", as you won't be able to rescue it and use it some where else.

OK others have dealt with other front’s ill focus on SEAC.

An allied offensive across the trail in mid 43 is IMO unlikely the airtransport to support said offensive doesn’t really exist yet. (I think its still going to be very difficult in 44)

A limited offensive toward Arakan in mid 43 is possible and is a credible threat
An offensive to take Andaman Islands is also possible.

It all depends if the US have sent an Inf Division or a few RCT’s and a a few Lightnings to SEAC then an assault is possible as risks can be taken..

Overall I think an early 43 offensive is a limited risk from the Japanese perspective.

Late 43 is more difficult to predict. The RN BB’s have upgraded, the RN CV’s now have Corsair and Barracuda (A fine Torpedo aircraft) and the RAF has plentifull Wellingtons/Beuforts/Beufighters and some US heavy gps are in theatre.

With that kind of airpower and the limited range to hit Rangoon an invasion of lower Burma is a serious threat in late 43.

2 or 3 Indian Divisons will be approaching full strength add in the three strong Armoured Bdes, the three or four reinforcing Indian Divs and three UK divisional equivalent’s and you are looking at about 3,000 AP’s of attack power that the Allies can risk without risking India to much.

They are short of Engineers and light on heavy artillery (both of which can be sent by the US for relatively low cost on a 60 day delay) but a 3,000 AP invasion of Rangoon is possible supported by aircover from Andaman and CV based corsairs

The bases at risk are Rangoon, Moulmien and Tavoy any further south is very very risky and would require some US CV aircover as well.

The AVG is enough to ensure air superiority in Burma early on, enabling landings in Rangoon that will cut off Jap troops inland.

The Chinese divisions are useful when stacked together with more exprienced allied units.

AVG will get whittled down in PBEM if you are trying for Air Superiortiy over Rangoon in Tomahawks at long range.

Warhawks cannot give air superiority for an invasion of Rangoon without Andaman or Akyab.

An offensive towards either of these bases is a pre requisite imo until lightnings arrive.

A P38 backed invasion of Rangoon in late 42 is possible but not easy and is very very risky. (More risk than I am willing to take !!!)

p.s. all comments relate to pbem against the AI anything goes.

Andy
