Mogami,

I see you're bombing Rabaul with Nells (presumably from Truk). How do you move them without the spare planes sucking up precious pilots? By ship? Seems slow that way. I've considered flying them to a new destination and then immediately putting the spare planes on a ship. Do you think that would work?

Thanks, Mike

OK they do draw extra pilots. But I still have 40+ in my pool and don't mind my "assault" groups having extra trained pilots.

Wow, down to 40 or so and it's only 22 Dec 41. I guess those Nells & Betties will have a lot of staying power for some time to come. Now that I think about it, there are plenty of A5M4 daitai available to upgrade and reinforce the A6M2 daitai. This will provide the replacements for the bombers.

Another question: When you run out of trained pilots for the IJNAF, do you then fill up the recon and transport groups? Or do you combine them early on also and train them up as you do the fighters and bombers when they return?

Thanks.

Hi, I think I combine some and then I fill up the rest. There are enough IJA pilots to get all on map units remaining to full size. I don't run out of pilots for the Army right away. Normally the first groups returning from being disbanded fill out with trained pilots.

Do you usually use your recon chutai as you fill them up with untrained pilots or do you train them?

A great victory for the IJN! The Emperor will be very pleased with this Christmas present.

Yep, no doubt. She was in bad shape but I got an unlucky roll and she sank while in the Level 4 port there in Kendari. I'll be hearing from the Royals about this...

Hi, I have to start doing a better job covering my TF. It don't count to have fighters in range if they are not assigned LRCAP.
The Hanoi-Nanning RR is clear of enemy forces. I waited a few days for the Chinese to depart on their own but I can't have these units tied down in China. 21st Div has other missions waiting. Clearing the Hanoi-Nanning RR was my one objective in China unless the Chinese wish otherwise.

Hi Mogami,

So you sent your fighters on a mission to Sweep Singapore? Also, I'm curious: are you bombing Singapore from Kuantan, Khota Bharu, or Saigon?

any thoughts one way or the other on the post 1.5 submarine detection routines? has it altered strategy significantly?

I've tried going extra-heavy on ASW patrols to see how "bad" it could get and so far, it seems about the same. I think one needs specific situations such as a lot of subs in a very small area (something Mogami has never been crazy enough to do in my recollection of my games against him, though I've tried from time to time ;-) in order to get a high number of Air ASW attacks. In our game at least, single subs operating in a reasonable fashion are still quite survivable even near enemy air bases.

Regards,

- Erik

Hi, The only thing I have noticed so far is the "get pilot" button and upgrading airgroups to type rather then model. I have not changed anything as a result of going to 1.50

Hi, There will be a "Battle of Johore" in a few days. Building the airfield at Rabaul to support "The next leap" The current plan of war sees Phase II Operations moved up to occur concurrent with Phase I (I have always planned Phase I occupy SRA followed by Phase II go out and kill the enemy where ever I can catch them. Phase III remains "Come and get me"
