I played the 1.0 version as allies vs. AI on the big campaign up to Oct '43 before I could download the patches via new girlfriend's cable internet connection. I was laying the smackdown hard on the AI.

I love the tweaks in the AI, much more agressive without being totally stupid about it. The '42 campaign that starts in May '42 ( I'm guessing it's 42a) is great -- the limited supply, reinforcement, limited PP's, no evac from PI or DEI and tamed ship and /a/c arrivals make it harder to mount a defense against the onslaught against PM. Heck with the twin Death Stars moving about freely, I can't even resupply PM very well much less reinforce without risking a large LCU at sea such is the threat.

I thwarted the 5th SNLF landing in the PM hex but now the IJA has moved heavy units over the Owen Stanleys into the hex and I stopped last night with a full scale evac -- all flyable a/c to Cooktown and Dakota's trying to get out the base personnel! I only have the PM defese brigade and another weak brigade providing rear guard!

But I did manage to pick off the Death Star's support fleet near Gili with CV a/c taking out 4 oilers, 2 ammo ships and a DD before bolting Southeastward into the cover of heavy weather.

Much much better than the original ver 1.0.

The leader dissapearing thing still has me worried.

Halsey gets no liberty call for the duration!

Thanks barbarossa, great to hear. I think most folks have upgraded incrementally so it's interesting to get feedback from someone who jumped from 1.0 right to 1.5.

Regards,

- Erik

Barbarossa, I've been thinking about your comments here for awhile. One of the reasons I like scens 15 and 16 (actually 115 and 116) is that in the big campaign in UV it didn't seem to matter what you did, the allied player was unable to get any troops to Milne Bay (okay, Gili Gili in UV) before the Japanese invasion would arrive. Since we all know that the Aussies fought and won a tough battle there, this problem always bugged me. What I would do would be to play the May '42 scenario until August and then start the August '42 scenario.

In WITP, does the same thing happen? Does the allied player have a chance to get any decent number of troops into Milne Bay before the Japs invade?

Hi Bradfordkay,

When i've played this scenario - at start there is a FT TF in Rabaul with orders to deliver an SNLF to Gili Gili. This cannot be beaten to it.

Steven

So it's the same problem as in UV. I think that I'll stick to scen 116 (my present favorite).

I can't remember how it was in UV but it sure is like it at start of 42A campaign.

I do think it's a good campaign though especially if people are tired of going through the first 6 months.

Steven

I think it kinda depends really. Has anyone tried to take a unit of Aussie's OFF their Austrailia command and move them to SWPAC? That should free them up to be moved by ship. Granted, by time you may not be able to load enough and ship them there, but its a thought.

Might try it.

I had a PBEM opponent airlift troops into Gil...er, Milne Bay on Turn 1 of "Coral Sea." He had enough there that my FT TF from Rabaul couldn't take it. In fact, he held me off for a week or more there, but ultimately he didn't have time to move in a more substantial force. Of course, that's just a two week scenario. :)

See, that's the thing. I believe that it was the Australian 7th Infantry Brigade that was in Milne Bay (Gili Gili) before the Japanese arrived, as well as the 55th Australian Infantry Battalion and the US 46th Engineer Battalion. These units were all in place well before the Japanese arrived on the 25th of August, 1942. However, in the May '42 scenarios, we have the Japanese on a fast transport ready to unload there in the first week of May. It looks like we have the allies arriving at or near historical dates, but the Japanese arriving much earlier. This is why I do not like the May scenarios. It's a personal preference, but I wanted to let you guys know why.

I just double checked: the 55th Bttn and 46th Engrs arrived in June, the 7th Brigade arrived in July. No Japanese arrived until the landing of 25th August.
