Logistics is the number one thing on my list.

You offered this a year or so ago at least if I remember correctly. Unfortunately a weather model is probably quite complex is it not...at least to retrofit?

That was actually something Mike wanted to do but never had time for ... if he ever picks it up, your data would probably make his day.

Yep, I've always kept the offers open, and respect decisions either way. Main thing of course is I'm no programmer. I do however have a lot of experience in climate studies and typhoon forecasting within the tropics and could certainly brainstorm ideas with the best of them.

As for the "year ago" that Ron mentioned, I was bummed when I got back into things in the forum and saw the opportunity had been missed. Ah well... If it comes to pass though that this is a worthwhile idea, would love to jump in and at least put some ideas out there.

Oh, and Ron, you asked about complexity? Thats probably one of the best "yes and no" answers you could imagine. LOL! You bet the weather of the day was complex. It still is now. The trick would be programming something that was at least CLOSE to reality without getting TOO detailed (less it worked of course ). Reason I say that is what gives you the "out" to drop the complexity down somewhat is/was the technology of the times. They had no means of watching the weather except for what folks on the ground (or ship) saw and reported. Whats more, there were no organized "Typhoon hunter" units until about 2yrs after the war. Hence instances like the USS Pittsburgh losing her bow in a typhoon, among others.

Still.. the important thing is you guys know I'm here in the easy chair with a noggin full of ideas to help if needed.

Meantime its back to PBEM. Cheers gents.

We're not going to see any change in this area. My idea, presented in the UV forum a couple years ago, was to present weather in the form of "fronts" which moved along the map like weather fronts do and could be more or less seen ahead of time and duly planned for. Nothing came of it, of course. Too bad.

As it stands, now the little "clouds' don't mean anything, either. They're supposed to negate offensive missions into them, but we constantly see (almost every turn, all over the map) offensive missions flown into "clouds." Why this hasn't been fixed I don't know.

I saw it once in awhile in UV and was told I was "seeing things," and that's as far as that went. But mainly it seemed to work as designed in that game, so I let it go. In WitP it happens all the time.

So much for weather.

True, that may end up being the case John, but as was pointed out to me last Fall, getting into the mill before things get going (something I wish I had done in '03 with WITP), MAY give a chance to put something of value into a weather model. You're right to say it may not be possible or even feasible considering... but still, one never knows. I'm patient either way, and unlike before? I'm around to watch for signs of being needed.
