Tom,

I've kinda lost track of the game date here. Many of the memo format entries had dates attached...

Sorry,

It's February 13th 1942

Looks like Singers will last a few days past historical, but with a much smaller bag of prisoners for the Japanese.

Right now my goal is to sink every Japanese ship within 120 miles of Malaya. That way even after the place does finally go the Japanese army will be trapped, because there will be no boats to take it anywhere. On the 13th surface vessels operating in Malaya waters sunk 13 Japanese vessels and damaged others.

Mandrake is working on suprises of his own in the South Pacific. He also has a very bloody air battle starting up over PM. 17 Wildcats went down yesterday, and not very many Zeros. He has been busy with other stuff so I am trying to keep the AAR up.

The sooner they lose theirs, the faster they might get some real fighters.

I'm sure the pilots will be transitioning into Warhawks or something and stay and kick some Jap butt over OZ.

All that money the British taxpayers spent on big hunks of steel in the 1920's and 30's is finally put to some use.

I love the battle map and excellent writing! Will Kortenaer make it?

More meat for "Mr Mitsubishi"'s grinder, I suppose.

Starting with the next turn Tabpub will be taking over Timor, Australia and New Guinea. Right at the moment he does not have any warships in his control, but does have a lot of airplanes and ground troops.

We believe that Timor is doomed, so we quickly decided to give it to the new guy.

Too bad he did not show up in time to take command of Singapore yesterday.

I have said it before but that is the funniest AAR to be seen here . But I just realized some days ago how much it is propaganda-oriented, when I checked the correspondent Japanese AAR. Both sides only describe their respective victories and the enemy losses rather than theirs.

Anyway your Allied team is really good. Saving all these troops and hitting hard IJN ships and aircraft in Malaya is an amazing achievement.

Losses? what losses?

On the losses inflicted front Malaya has been very good. Over 70 Japanese ships sunk in Malay waters,
and another 17 sunk at Saigon and Cahm Ran most of which were damaged off Malaya. We are going to sink some more tonight as well, and it adds up to over 10% of the Japanese merchant fleet.

You are indeed right about the reporting slant This is a war, the principals are naturally prone to inflate their successes and minimize their disasters..after all, they are either playing to the audience back home or trying to further their own careers..so they might be tempted to puff things up a bit.

For eg, our biggest disaster, the loss of 4 top of the line US CA's to Jap carrier attack didnt have a map...nobody lived to tell about it But, it did make it into the AAR in the form of letters of reprimand and snide international rivalries. You just have to look for it

Multiday disasters of large scope do warrant a map, review etc...see the "Slaughter Pen" The current slaughter of Allied fighters and merchies near PM will certainly get a map when they are done slaughtering our boys.

When we are done, it should be a hoot to read the Jap AAR and see all their propaganda.

China has got short shrift mainly because I cant remember the place names and all the units sound the same...plus the planes are so bloody ugly it is hard to get excited about it..but Tom has been kicking butt. There are even quite a few Chinese aces.
