What happens when there is a lot less naval or merchant ships for Japan to produce? Will the ship building points start to pile up in a virtual bank or are they just wasted? I was wondering if it will be beneficial to shutdown some of the ship yards in the later stages of the war.

Saves HI for building aircraft or spitting out troops.

OK - but is it possible to store a lot of production points up? I notice it stores a small amount sometimes but I figure this is just leftovers that didn't get "eaten" the previous turn. I figure if these can be stored up into the thousands then I can still produce ships for a while even after the ships yards are destroyed by B-29s. Otherwise I'll start to slowly shutdown the ship yards to save HI.

Looks like it saves HI for the future. As for shipbuilding, armament and vehicles points. I have around 200,000 HI, 4,000 merchant, 30,000 armament and 1,500 vehicle points saved.

To bad the game does not alow you to build many of the Merchants and Naval vessels they left out of the OOB for Japan, or you could spend those extra points on them

Too bad the game leaves out all the post 8/45 ships and planes the allies did build as well.

8/45? How about post-12/44?

I only quoted 8/45 because I couldn't remember when the OOB started to fall off. I knew it was in 45, just not how soon in 45. I take it January is when the OOB stops most new ship arrivals for the allies?

"I figure if these can be stored up into the thousands then I can still produce ships for a while even after the ships yards are destroyed by B-29s."

It does make me wonder how you could build ships if the shipyards are destroyed. Are you suggesting that you could build the ships after repairing the shipyards, or do it anyway because of the accumulated points?

I don't really know. Just thought that the shipyard points are what controlled ship production. Anyway the lack of these points will really slow you down.

Brady, didn't that horse die a looonng time ago?! We understand your point, but most Japanese players have noted that they have far more transport/freighter capacity than they feel they will ever need.

Leaves out a bunch from 44 also, iirc.

Personally, I would shut down most of the Naval production sometime in 1944. Keep just enough to produce subs. Halt all carriers remaining in the que..,finishing them late in the war is just cranking out victory points for the Allies. Preserve your HI for producing fighters, Ki-67 and P1Y.

I will do this at some point in the future but I can still make use of additional DDs and other little ships right now.

As you can see it is possible to get almost all CVs in 1943. This one is in 2/16/1943.
