I'm curious, has any tried to beef up the AI or tried to get it to conduct ops that some of the human pbem players have done? Or is that a lost cause due to the nature of the AI?
Anyone have any input on how the AI works (besides what we've all seen)?

Thanks in advance,
Sincerely
Kelly

The "AI", or "Computer Opponent" as it would better be called, is not modifiable by the user, only by the developers.

So ... the answer to your question is no I'm afraid.

Having said that I bet that it would be possible to make a form of computer opponent which you would play via Head to Head mode. What I am talking about is somehow "driving" the WitP executable from another program. How you would do this under Windows I have no idea unfortunately. What I can say is that such an undertaking would probably be a larger and more difficult effort than re-making the game entirely from scratch though :)

Okay I didn't phrase it properly. In the scenario editor you can give the AI objectives and hopefully it'll go take them, including assigning a priority for CV support and whether or not the units involved will march or go by sea (by assigning a value, higher number go by sea, lower # go by land).
Now what I was thinking was some of the tactics (gamey or not) would probably be interesting or at least a change for those who play soley against the AI. Such as the Japanese player storming China then marching overland to India (or the 'Kill off the Soviets' and march to China then onto India).
I'm currently experiementing some but not exactly sure if the AI is even paying attention to the objectives I'm giving it.

Any thoughts?
Thanks
Kelly

Ah OK I see what you mean now. Somehow I doubt that stuff has much effect, but I haven't tried fiddling with it.

I don't think there's ever been an official response, even though the questions been asked, but I have a suspicion that the AI you can edit in the scenario editor only works for limited map scenarios. I have a suspicion that it may be hard-coded for full map scenarios. Try loading a copy of an existing full-map and restricted-map scenario into the scenario editor and see what you get.
