Yesterday, I applied the 1.5 patch to an ongoing PBEM game where the allied submarine doctrine was "on".

After applying the patch, allied submarine doctrine is showing itself to be "off" and we cannot get it back "on" again.

(1) Is it really "off"? Or is it just displaying as "off" even though it remembered the original setting?

(2) If it is really "off", can we get it back "on" again, somehow?

All of those preferences were set at game start and can't be changed. You are still under whatever preferences you started with.

Welcome back by the way...miss the AARs.

That's the problem. We are NOT under the preferences we started with. When we installed the upgrade, the preferences changed. We want to go back to the settings we started with.

(P.S. I miss the AAR as well.)

All of the preference switches get set back to default after a patch. The The preferences themselves are locked into the game at start.

I was hoping that this was the case.

I thank you kindly for the clarification.

I hate to bring this up again but . . .

Are you SURE that the 1.5 upgrade (not 1.6, but 1.5) did not turn Allied submarine doctrine off?

I seem to be hitting a few more Japanese ships with my torpedoes. It could be luck. However, I can't really do the happy dance if this is because the 1.5 upgrade turned off a feature that, in my agreement with my opponent, should be on. Namely, Allied submarine doctrine.

Pretty sure - however note that the doctrine should change at some point, it doesn't apply for the whole game. Not sure what month and year it is in your game.

We are still within the first 100 days of the war.

There should be no change in the sub doctrine for another year. However, I have torped more ships in the 4 days since we upgraded to 1.5 than I did in all of the turns in the first three months of the war.

I've got a fairly popular AAR riding on this game, and I am anxious to make sure that the integrity of the game is preserved. So, if there is a bug, I would rather revert back to 1.4 fairly soon than force my opponent to endure an early end to Allied submarined doctrine.

Thayne,

There's no bug or change that I'm aware of. However, the game is built on a system with a lot of variability. I would continue running and I doubt the trend will continue.

My guess is that somebody makes some chnages, not even official changes, on the fly every once in a while and then they forget about them. I've had to redo the opening historic turn, time and time again because the Kates almost never attack with torpedoes with two or more groups, so nothing has changed there. On the other hand having ran so many turn ones again, I am getting the SS-39 or SS-139 about 50% of the time attacking, or being attacked with the invasion TF on that southernmost PI port, whereas I can't ever recall that happening before. It also looks as though Guam and Wake are BOTH staying in Allied control for the first turn a much higher percentage than before (I had approximately a dozen starts and Wake fell once). I'm not sure how Guam was stationed before, but there's not even an Allied unit in it, which of course means the IJN didn't even shock attack it either when unloading. Maybe it's always been that way, but my guess is that there was a unit there and that it was getting beaten for approximately 90% of the starts in previous versions.
