There appear to be a number of lcu, specifically engineer units in the PI, that cannot be moved except by land. For example most of the USAAF air base units in the outlying islands (Cebu et al) won't load portions onto transport submarines (my original thought was to preserve at least the cadres for reconsitution after the fall of the PI), aircraft or fast transports or entire units onto AP/AK.
Is there a way to determine whether or not units may be moved or loaded? The fixed coast artillery emplacmenets I can understand but don't follow with many of the engineers.
Also somebody mentioned something about subdividing air units. I have a fair handle on doing this with naval and lcu but haven't found a button for this with air units. How is this done?
I'm still playing 1.4, 1.5 pulls a ctdt when I select any ground unit, consequently went back to 1.4 but swapped in the 1.5 db.

The units are under a restricted command. You must first spend PP to change the headquaters to a non-restricted command (like South Pacific) and then they can be loaded onto transports or submarines.

Thanks, tried that, still no go. Is there a lag between changing the HQ (in this instance SFEA>ABDA) and being able to implement loading?

ABDA is also a restricted HQ, you have to change it to a nonrestricted one

Ah so. Many thanks. So SEA/SWPAC/CENPAC then? I'm at work right now so I don't have the manual with me. What are the restricted commands? ABDA, PI, Australia?

Yes The PI (actually called something else), ABDA and Australia are restricted commands. Plus Canada, West Coast and New Zealand

I usually transfer them to SW Pacific if they are going to Oz, SE Asia if they are going to ABDA area/India and South Pacific if they are going to Noumea et al. But it does not really matter. Troops can go anywhere if attached to any of those three or Central pacific.

PI command = USAFFE.

Also, Far East Command (the Russians) i THINK is restricted, but haven't had the Russians activated so not sure about this.

Northern Pacific and China Commands also are unrestricted.

Tried it last night, worked. Many thanks. I got the idea after watching a rerun of "They Were Expendable" (side note, kind of cool they got an actual PT boat skipper to play one in the flick, Robert Montgomery). May be a little gamey but I wanted to see how it works.
